  • In the third in a series about HF Beacons, Ask Dave Episode 33 looks at PSK Reporter. This system can show you where your signal is being received, and all the signals that you receive, all nicely plotted on Google Maps. And if you are already set up for digital modes, it's likely that your digital mode software already has the capability to participate! Thank you for watching my videos! My channel, "Ham Radio Answers," is here to help you become an active, on-the-air amateur radio operator! I am unique in that I provide the only set of TH-cam training videos that accompany the ARRL license manuals, section for section. I try hard to answer every Ask Dave question individually if I can.
    Credits: Music (Sour Tennessee Red) courtesy TH-cam Audio Library: www.youtube.co.... I often use graphics from openclipart.org -- a great source! I also frequently use photos and videos from www.nasa.gov.
    I'm often asked what equipment I use to create the videos. The devices include the Panasonic HDC-TM90 video camera, Tascam DR-05 audio recorder, Audio-Technica ATR-3350 lapel microphone, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W560 digital camera, the Kodak Zi-8 video camera, my iPhone 5S, and Pentax K100D DSLR. Software used: CyberLink PowerDirector 13 on a Toshiba S55-A5294, also using Smoothdraw 4.0.5.0, FastStone Image Viewer 5.3, FastStone Capture 8.0, Audacity 2.1.1., and LibreOffice 5.0.4.2. There is also a nice option in PSKReporter that enables you to see the signal (db) report the station heard you at. This gives you a better indication of how well others are hearing your station and what might be happening with the propagation of your signal. See the to the right of the Go button, there are Display Options and click on the check box next to show snr. Thanks for the video Dave. - Mike - N7DQ

    David - great video! I have a CW Propagation Beacon at 28.243 MHZ going thru a Uniden HR2510. I recently configured the radio for sound card modes and have been experimenting with JT65. It's a blast! At a recent ham radio club meeting, we watched a TH-cam video about the upcoming Solar Eclipse QSO Party. In that video, the scientist recommended running PSK Reporter if you can't get on the air. That's when I turned on the feature in the software. It's so much fun, I have not had the CW beacon on the air for a few days now. I hope to make a video encouraging people to use PSK Reporter during the SEQP. 73 Paul AA1SU

    I liked the nature pictures.
    I'd like to see you make a video incorporating quad bikes, QRP CW and the nature.
    An overnight camp would be great to see as well.

    Hey Dave. I've checked the two boxes you mentioned in HRD/DM780 but am not showing up as a monitor on PSKReporter. When I transmit on PSK31 I show up as transmitting, just not as a monitor. Any suggestions? I've been on the internet all morning looking for a solution but nothing yet. By the way when I use WSJT-X I show up as a monitor with no problem.

    what do you use for CW?

    • @davecasler
      @davecasler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Often I'll pull out one of my QRP rigs. I like to do CW by hand. I don't use a computer for it.
