All the auto manufacturers stocks have been going up for a year except Tesla, down 42%.
In 2 years I have to change my EV6. The EV5 looks great.
Ground clearance seems hard to find out, an important number for Aussie users.
For Coloradans too
Not really. This isn't going off road. No hope.
@@anthonybugge5220 Outback roads need good clearance.
@christover1 no one buying a kia EV will be going outback but it's probably got around 180 clearance
This is true, having never been to Australia but seeing videos of the country, they live in a primeval jurassic like landscape, where insects and spiders are at least a foot tall. And so cars need to clear at least a foot off the ground or you just have insects the size of dogs scraping the undercarriage.
This is not hyperbole, this is Australian life.
In Thailand we can order KiaEV5 now with delivery starting this July. 4 version coming ;2 of 66kwh version (light wind), and 2 of earth with 88.1kwh battery. Wltp is 546km. Price starting 1.2xx mm thb(Light RWD) to 1.749 mm thb (about usd47204) for earth AWD.
Beautiful car - however, more range is needed. I do plan to tow a lightweight trailer around 2500lbs and across North America. The obstruction of the trailer requires more range, much more. I reckon 400 miles is close enough. Anything less is out of contention for my dollar. Thanks for the look at the EV5.
Beautiful? 😂😂😂😂😂 oh dear...
Much too big for my needs.
Waiting for EV2GT /EV3 GT
Please if you have the Towing-capacity when you rewiev a new car, think many might whant to know that 😀
On the wishlist:
4-wheel drive with big 100kwh battery long range
It is very high on my list the EV5, I'm waiting for the NZ demo coming to town :). Great to hear it has an LFP battery.
Looks good but too big for UK country roads here in Devon and Cornwall. Waiting for the EV3 to replace my e Niro
Do we know what size it is?
Well they’re selling the EV9 here and I’ve seen one close up. It’s not quite as massive as I expected so I’d think the EV5 should be manageable. I’m in rural Shropshire and there’s plenty of massive Range Rovers barrelling down country lanes here!
Yep same here on the RR front ! Just won’t want the hassle of meeting one of them in an equally large tank. Life is just too short for all that reversing, manoeuvring and panel scratching on the soft granite hedges of Cornwall.
Size matters down here. 😅
I have the Kia Niro 4 EV which I am very happy with. It does everything very well and I love the heads up display. The new EV5 sounds similar.
Is it the same size as the US Telluride?
Hi Sam - excellent channel and great to finally have a item not involving Tesla or Mr Musk who seem to have dominated the airwaves (okay, cyberspace) for weeks - I’m guessing though that there’s no such thing as bad publicity in Tesla’s case 😎
Yes like Kia ev5 gt
Now we are talking, YES Kia finally getting LiPho battery, but with Kia’s excellent styling and features
I totally agree with you 🙂💯
Not sure what the claims regarding charging are based on. I would imagine that the CATL Shenxing would be too expensive right now for a car in this class? Would make more sense to update the EV6 and EV9 with it first. But if they could get 10-80% in like 12 mins that would be insane in this price category (50 000€?) and would outcompete almost everything else.
I believe it has already gotten the price up for NZ ..... and it is $$$$
Doesn't need to be a rocket ship It accelerates as fast as most every day ICE vehicles and that's the mainstream market it's designed for. Curious about the vehicle range The diet might be to reduce battery size and range, depending on its range, as it has 500 kW super charging. As long as you have good access to supercharging infrastructure range doesn't need to be more than 200 miles. Supercharging ubiquity is increasing, so it's likely future proof.
Great size for my needs; in between a BMW X3/Audi Q5/Volvo XC60 and a BMW X5/Audi Q7/Volvo XC90/EX90. LFP battery is a bonus for longevity.
Does it have V2H though?
I would love to buy the new ev 5 awd but I need to know the towing capacity to see if it will be capable to tow my horse trailer can anyone help? thanks
Waiting for the EV4. Make it so!
I think the 4,900 lb weight is great! A 4,900 lb weight at $49,000 will make it the cheapest SUV battering ram on the road per pound!
It's a nice car, I can't think of an EV I don't like! The choice is becoming as good as normal ice cars. There's one for everyone's needs! Though I think if you want to pull a caravan they are going to have to start offering a battery pack to help the car get the range.
Looks great :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Where is the Kia Soul GT Line EV?
The Kia Soul has unfortunately been cancelled as a model 😢
2026 will be very interesting. Kia EV5, Rivian R2 and possibly VW Scout all during it out in the same $45-$55k SUV price point.
Batteries from CATL? Reports suggest batteries are from BYD (FinDreams)?
Remember Viking has zero credibility! As he blabs bs every day! We here in NZ have had official pricing now for almost a month!
The Kia EV5 is Kia's first dedicated electric vehicle and was officially launched at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show. The EV5 has a starting price of ฿1,249,000-฿1,749,000 in Bangkok. That's $34,000 USD
so EV6 was ice you mean?
The price of KIA EV5 in China is : 2024 Light (530km) - US $ 19,400; 2024 Air (530km) - US $ 20,700; 2024 Land (530km) - US $ 22,700 ... Why do they OVER CHARGE this charge when selling the same vehicle in Other countries?????? This is EXTREMELY UNFAIR...
I think what they’re doing is they are marketing to people who have been sold on the idea of bigger and better. I mean, look at the blocky design of that thing and all the air pushing it’s gonna be doing. Really not the best design for efficiency, but because it’s electric is way more efficient anyway, despite all those flaws.
And because we have been using internal combustion engines for a century the third of the car in front is wasted on housing a motor making visibility much worse for the driver and lowering the safety. People are used to that shelf butting out in front. I’m sure that many people think of it as a buffer between themselves and everything out there, but that’s not what it is. Electric doesn’t need to put anywhere near like that. Some electric cars put the motors in the wheelbase.
Nice looking with a weak range and heavy body will make it drive sluggish
Yep EV5 is much more sensible in terms of efficiency and cost than the EV9. Nowhere near as much storage as a model Y though. Although a model y comes with baggage (ELON)
Its going to be Kia's most popular EV model. Good idea to use LFP from CATL, LG batteries are just ain't cut it anymore with all the safety and reliability issues.
Except Viking as usual got the supplier wrong again! It's from BYD battery group!
I thought they used BYD battery's
charge port on the front passenger side. Just drive straight in where the Tesla has to back in - Brilliant!! Now just make it NACS
If they are not made here and the batteries are from China it will have to pay 27 % tariff yes or no?
Same price as a Model Y? LOL I'd buy the modelY every day of the week.

Cracking car
I like it
It looks alright at the front and the back looks Toyota lol Cheers mate

85 dollars a barrel tells us all who wants what.
Looks like a fugly jigsaw puzzle.
Kia………. G A R B A G E
It's a KIA Sorento
Dont think this can be sold in the U.S.
Who said it will be.
EV's spend 100% longer charging up compared to a ice vehicle filling up.
When I had a gasoline car, I had to stand around at the pump for a few minutes, including dealing with payment. Now I just plug in and walk away. Seems a better use of my time to use the restroom, get some food and coffee.
@@bearcubdaycare I suppose coffee and food are free? That adds to the charge rate, ie unnecessary expense on top of the charging experience
Charge overnight at home 99%of the time, and once a week.
@@kamgarcha1021 been to a BP ice service station lately?
Good move by South Korean KIA....meanwhile the stubborn Japanese EV will still be unaffordable as usual.
Tesla needs to build something like this. Most Americans want something like this …not a $25000 economy car. Honda sold just 200,000 civics in America last year.
Actually the $25000 USD bracket is precisely where EV manufacturers should be targeting. At the moment it’s only financially comfortable people who can afford EVs.
@@ivannavi8154 they are better off buying a 2021 Tesla. Most Americans want big cars and trucks. If Honda sells 200,000 civics how can Tesla sell a small EV and hope for more sales.
Well, some of the reasons are higher rents and inflation. That’s a really big reason. For people doing well these reasons don’t even cross their mind so that chunk of people which by the way is much bigger than your chunk of people want smaller and more affordable. I personally do not want a giant vehicle anyway, no matter how much money I make. I mean, I’m happy for you if you can brag congratulations! It’s nice how much money you make and how much you’re bragging but most people don’t care about it.

Hi Sam, Dude, you're all over the shop with your imperial and metric stats. So confusing, and horsepower is so old world. These cars are EV’s and so only kW’s really matter. Cheers.
Yes, no horses should be involved. Very archaic (late 19th century?).
it's Hyundai, not HIANDAY
Not in Korea (it is neither one). I have no idea how Chinese people pronounce it.
This so-called "GT" is not a "GT." it's the AWD model! It's available as the Earth AWD, and the GT Line 315hp is just 234kw! Another fail from the Electric Viking!
If you buy this car who is going to work it if
It has a problem.
Glaciers are shrinking, coral reefs are in crisis and last year was the hottest on record. Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, In 2023, global levels of the greenhouse gas rose to 419 parts per million, around 50 percent more than before the Industrial Revolution. That means there are roughly 50 percent more carbon dioxide molecules in the air than there were in 1750. Global fossil fuel emissions are at record-high values.
Complete nonsense.
@@peteroconnor5537 FACTS MR. EXXON!
I just farted
Hate to say but KIA ride is poor these days. EV6 amazing to drive. More r e cent EVs are 🤮 machines
Can we please not mentioning Tesla over and over again in every video?
Not every metric of a car needs to be compared with a Tesla. I like your videos a lot but this detail I could do without
Ev5 prices have been released in nz for a couple of weeks. Light Long range $67,990 nzd. Light + long range $70,450. Earth long range $75,450. Earth long range awd $80,450. Gt line $85,450.
Viking is full of BS! Same with the battery supplier, not CATL but part of the BYD group!
Who cares since it will be $65k here anyway.
How could you possibly come up with the stupid pricing when even stupid Viking has no clue about the actual price eventhough the price has been known in NZ for almost a month! And it starts at NZ$68k for the 88kwh model, while Australia will get the smaller battery of 64kwh meaning your stupid price estimate is just as stupid as Viking not knowing the price! NZ price is normally around $5-$8k more than Australia, so $60k for the 88kwh model and probably $55k for the smaller battery model!
No compressed air? Then it's already old tech.
Insufficient range👎👎😊
EV´s are getting more and more ridiculous. Everything has to be longer and higher and at least 4 doors.
What's next, 6-door sedans and 7 meter long SUV´s, . . . or 3.5 ton 8-door "bus"-like gogomobiles?
And still 65% of the population in the western worlds are solo and duo households, that for 90% of the time ride alone.
Doesn't anyone have half a brain anymore to notice that something is getting weirder and weirder?
Bloody hell, it looks like a blue brick with lights. How on earth could anybody design such an ugly lump. And the aerodynamics, this is a parachute. I’d be embarrassed to have that horrible thing in my driveway. Perfect car to discourage people swapping from ICE to EV.
way too heavy, my ford ranger is lighter than that
Ford Ranger 1841 to 2198kg depending on model KIA Ev5 1870 to 2130kg so yes possibly but model dependant. You point was irrelevant 2 different styles.
Perhaps you should fact check yourself before making comparisons like this. 29kg lighter at the bottom end and 68kg heavier at the top end. My "guess" is the light end will be the single cab and the heavier will be the twin cab with the king kab just below that as it will be the seats rear doors extra steel and glass and other safety bits adding to the weight. Add on a lockable rear cab cover and you'll be way over the weight of the ev5. 😂😂😂
@@binitbob yeah that's the latest ones weight. older ones are a bit lighter. so maybe you shouldn't assume you know what I'm talking about genius.
point remains the KIA is way too heavy for a mid size SUV. For example Rav 4 hybrid weighs 1730kg for the heaviest AWD model. half a ton extra to lug around is poor engineering
@@caljeff2427 I do apologise if I'd realised you were comparing a 12 year old pickup or older to a modern car I should have factored in some sort of mythical %age for the safety/equipment upgrade. After all a mini from 2012 was 26% lighter than it direct comparison now. After all older cars are lighter in almost every comparison. It is usual to do a comparison on a like for like or else we'd all factor back to what suits our argument.... oh you did.🙄
@@binitbob u must be fun at party's
EV people claim they are saving the environment by buying an EV, yet they buy overpowered EV's comparable to V12 engines...
EV tech > ICE tech > Steam tech
Too many people buy any type of car bigger than they need but better a big EV than a small Ice or hybrid!
@@grantrandall1674 Not if you have to feed the EV's with coal as many countries do.
The process of moving to a fossil free world will take decades and billions of dollars but in the end we will have clean and extremely cheap energy that is locally produced reducing political tensions and wars in the process
Because they’re still far more efficient. 3 times more efficient than straight ICE and 2.3 times more efficient than a hybrid.
That's one of the most ugly cars out there.
