I haven't tried this out yet but I just want to say that your style of presenting information and guidance is top notch. So clear and easy to understand, no complications at all. Really look forward to practicing like you've shown as this is at the moment the worst part of my game.
Danny, really glad I came across this and thank you for posting these! I’ve gone from a 5 to a 9 handicap the last few years and what used to be my strongest suit - getting up and down around the green - has become my weakest. It is my “yip” with at least 3 or 4 blades across the green each round. I watched this video before playing yesterday and went to the course early to practice. It was so easy to implement. I had one chip-in from about 15y and four one-putts of less than 4’. All of this directly due to this principle. The great part - just like putting - is controlling the distance! Aiming is fairly easy for both, but to know that I will be within 4-6’ on distance is a game changer. Thanks again and great job communicating this in only 9 short minutes.
@@DanielMaude Thanks sir! I just found your channel and I'm already learning a lot. I can't wait to take some of these tips onto the course with me! Now only if it would stop raining in Kansas City, Missouri...
You are one of the only other instructors that I have seen teaching this way. I taught chipping this way as well. The only thing I would add is that when you are setting up you gently reach down with your top hand and then grip the club. This way your top arm is at full length and the club head shouldn’t swing any lower. Thus taking another variable out of the equation.
Always look forward to Saturdays in order to watch your instructive video’s. Always to the point, It’s about teaching, not about how good you are. No 1 in my opinion.
Tried your senior swing, really good round, then a week later back to normal pushing to the right, then hooking left, can’t find any consistency off the Tee.
Hello Danny, been following your videos for several months. I am 17 handicap and shot level par 35 on back nine couple days ago off yellow tees. Had 5 realistic birdie chances and converted two. 13 putts. 1 bunker. Hit tee shot to 2ft at par three 12th. Driver good. No penalties, no duffs. Your videos transformed my game.
Danny you are a very generous man indeed. You just gave 31,548 viewers a 100 dollar lesson for free ! Seriously though you have given we yippers of the golf world hope. I am a 14 hdcp. The reason being I couldn't hit a green from 10 feet. You name it - roll the turf over the ball, skinny it, chunk it, fat it, no contact, stick the club in the ground behind the ball. My face turning red I was so embarrassed at the looks I was getting from people. No help anywhere from anyone that I solicited help from (Pro lessons, playing partner observations, TH-cam vids, etc.). 3 minutes and 43 seconds into your video I'm cured. Simply remarkable !!!!!!!!!
Danny hands down best instructor on TH-cam. Your tips have helped my game no end. Im hitting straighter and further and can’t wait start your chipping drill, which I’m struggling with at the min
I watched this video quite a few times and I have been practicing this for a while now and it has completely changed my game around the greens. It felt very foreign at first but now it feels very natural and works. Even a bad shot is manageable. GAME CHANGER!
I really appreciate your chipping philosophy on par with Dave Pelz’. You both teach the way to make it simple. With your help even beginners are able to improve their short game and make it FUN. Thumbs up.
I've played golf most of my life, back when I was younger I played to a low handicap. I gave it up as my chipping so bad there was no point it's still so mentally in my mind for me to a point where I couldn't put up with the game anymore. this is the best description of chipping basics I have ever come across. I'm still having issues but it's improving I can chip so much better one-handed though, so its still a rhythm issue but getting better, thanks
Bguzz - I feel your pain. I'm 63 and have been playing since I was four. About 10 years ago I got the chip-yips and it is horrible. I always considered myself the best chipper/pitcher on the planet. I always felt I could get up and in from anywhere. Then the yips hit. When I'm hitting my irons well and hit the greens I can still shoot under par. But if I'm off and I have a round where I'm missing greens and have to chip. Yikes. Break out the sweats and watch the bogies multiply. I'm playing tomorrow. First thing I do when I hit the course is to practice Danny's lesson and see where it takes me. Bguzz, keep up the practice. I'm hoping we can both come out on the other side and get our chipping mojo back. Danny - thanks for the lesson.
First time today to this channel, what great, simple, uncomplicated instruction, I used to be the king of chipping in my group of golfing friends now I'm the worst by a long way, hope this vid will get my crown back.
Hi Danny, I started playing golf last year and you basicly showed me how to swing and now this video got to my home page and I am loving the chiping techniques here! Now I am playing three times a week and playing almost to the singles (14 hc) Thanks goes to you keep it up! (So nice to see that you have gotten so many subs)
Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your videos. Some great tips and explained really well. I've just started to play after nearly 20 years break. The tips on TH-cam and the technology has made it easier for people to get help with their golf. Keep them coming!
I watched this vid and went golfing the next day, got a birdie on a par 4 by hitting a chip in from about 15-20 yards out. Stood there in shock for about 30 seconds. The way u explained these tips made so much sense to me and I look forward to binging everything I can from u!
Danny, I have only just found you TH-cam and just in time! I was chipping well all last year and perhaps in part due to the wet winter over the winter the skill had disappeared. I am in Portugal on holiday and when playing yesterday was playing very well apart from chipping off tight lies. You do a really great job of teaching the game of golf, thank you sir....a lot of other online instructors make it too hard "add side bend to your axis tilt blah blah blah"

Went to the course today and had watched a different video and just to give it a shot i tried it and was back hitting them over the green. Immediately went back to your technique and was back nailing my chips. Your the man danny!
Seriously, this is Gold Danny. I have been practising chipping in my back yard for over 25 years and didn't get it right : different story now. Thank You so much!
Danny, thank you for all your videos. You simplify what is complicated and communicate it a way that makes it easy to grasp and (hopefully) implement the improvements. Much appreciated.
This is an interesting technique. Not what i'm normally used to but maybe that's why i'm sometimes in inconsistent with my chipping. I'll be sure to give this a shot tomorrow at the range!
Really helpful concept, Danny. I feel like when I'm playing well and not in my own head I do this instinctively. When I'm struggling though my head fills with worries about committing to the shot, decelerating through the contact area...all those magpie'd bits of golf technique. Then I start dragging the back of my hand towards the target and get all sorts of inconsistency. Going to work really hard on putting my faith in this method. Thanks for the lessons!!
hungriest hippo I think we all get caught in this trap of over thinking it. Like you say it’s about practicing and realising that you are more natural than you realise
Really like your video Danny. Couple of questions I have; firstly although you speak of the balance points of the sternum and pelvic centre lining up, it can be clearly seen that your sternum is in fact very slightly behind your pelvic centre and remains that way throughout your swing. Also, there does seem to be a small but pronounced 'transition' move towards the target which you don't mention, and I just wondered if you were aware of these things?
Brilliantly described, so easy to understand and follow. Been implementing all of your training tips over the last 6 months and my game has improved so much. I came 3rd in my club championship last weekend, if I keep working at it...2020...who knows?? Thanks Danny
What happens to many players, including me, is that there is no problem during practice, and there is no problem during practice chip swings on the course, but on the actual shot on the course one sort of freezes, or flinches. It's entirely a mental thing.
Mentality is key to letting the body move too. People stand over the ball and don’t want to hit a bad shot, the mind saying do this do that. They then shoot bad scores, my method to trust the shot and swing is to realise you are hitting poor shots anyway, so no need to be afraid about hitting a poor shot then you can swing without fear and tension. Yes you may hit a poor shot but you were anyway and now your mind and body will be looser to learn and adapt. Never stand over the ball and fear a bad shot, do your thing over it with freedom and bad shots will come just as frequently if you are over the ball thinking and trying to micromanage the swing. It’s pointless. You need to be free to hit poor shots to get better. Danny’s describing freeing up the body in this, free up the mind before you swing and it will really work. Do this by feeling free to hit a poor shot. It confuses the mind into being quiet instead of tensing you up with expectation and hope that this will be a good shot or this lesson will really make a difference. Your brain subconsciously thinks doing what you have been practicing will produce a poor shot and reverts to type trying to save you from a poor shot ironically producing a bad shot and blocking your progress like a mental bouncer at the door of progress , I don’t know why it does this but it will block you improving. You must play through that fear and once you have done it a few times you will never freeze again because you don’t care if the shot is bad you just allow the body to flow.
Practice it hundred or even thousand times. Until your mind feel enough confidence and that you would not think too much in your game bcoz thinking too much yields to distraction.
Started to play golf again after 30 years. Thank you so much for your wonderful instructional video's. They have helped me understand in a simple and easy way all the techniques that make my game playable and enjoyable again. Please keep making them.
Just watched my 1st Danny Maude vlog have to say you really impressed me that's a great tip with the marker I'll be trying that for sure plus you explained that drill very well I look forward to seeing the rest of you're stuff.👍
Danny, where I live, we've experienced a rainy, wet spring and, thus far, summer is continuing this pattern. Course conditions are excellent, but with long, lush grass around the greens and off the fairways. Chipping in these conditions is, for me anyway, an adventure! (Plenty of "chunks"!) A chipping lesson for these conditions would be of much benefit me and for many of your subscribers I suspect. Thanks for all your help.
I’m gong to have to start paying you for being my lesson pro. Your lessons have helped immensely. Putting this into practice in the front yard tomorrow morning before I sit down to watch the 4th round of the Open.
I love how simple you make this. I get so unsure of myself and kill my score when I thin it across the green, or chunk it a foot or two. This really simplifies it, and am confident in using this method and make the shortest shot in golf easier! It will definitely knock some strokes off the game!!
Everything you teach is consistent with what my local instructor teaches me but you add a fresh perspective without filling my head with a bunch of contradictory noise. I genuinely appreciate your videos.
Hi Danny, I tried this today, it really good way to chip! 👏🏻👍🏼 How would change the setup if you had to 10 meters further? Could one still use vertical shaft & pendulum idea?
OMG, Danny I have been practicing this chipping and it really has made an enormous difference. Not only have I been rolling out chips close to the hole but I have actually holed a couple of chips. Brilliant, many thanks again. Kr Gary
You deserve more followers Danny. Your tips are so simple and straightforward it doesn't require major changes to repeat or practice. I recently dipped into single digits and a lot of this was thanks to incorporating your advice into my game so thank you.
@@DanielMaude thank you, I don't subscribe to youtube channels often, but subscribing to yours has been one of the best decisions I've made for my game. I have recommended it to all fellow golfers and they too have nothing but praise for your teaching style. All the very best to you and I look forward to more of your content
Hi George Cordeiro there doesn’t seem to be a right or wrong answer to your question. Some pros even prefer to always use one club and lengthen or shorten the swing accordingly, others like to keep the same length of swing and change clubs to control the distance. You need to experiment and see which method gives you the most consistent results, then practice. Good luck 👍
Danny you have earned my attention by making simple sense with practical understandable explanations and drills that yield results thereby shortening the learning curve and hopefully telescoping my goal to become a single digit handicap.
Best part Danny is the way you keep your head down and still. Contrary to some other pros on TH-cam. If your looking up before you hit the ball it doesn't matter what else you do.
I was open stance, ball off my right toe, stabbing down and not being consistent. This drill has made life around the greens much more consistent hence giving me confidence. We all know confidence makes for better scoring. Thanks for helping us with your lessons Danny😊👍
Thanks for the tip. Short chips have always been my downfall. I've tried emulating Michelson's lean forward method with limited success but the accuracy has been off. Yesterday, I practiced your technique for about an hour, and ended up deploying this method on a few holes during my round. I was shocked how well this pendulum technique works. You made me look like a chipping guru! I'm going to commit to this method and expect to continue on a positive track. Thanks.
I think this chip tip/routine will help me save extra 5 strokes, as my chip shot is inconsistent and your tutorial makes much more sense and intuitive.
I haven't tried this out yet but I just want to say that your style of presenting information and guidance is top notch. So clear and easy to understand, no complications at all. Really look forward to practicing like you've shown as this is at the moment the worst part of my game.

Which club do you use for your chipping?? I typically use a 56 degree
@@aureliobianco914 I think there is chipping 12 feet rule depends on how far you want to roll the ball, you choose different club.
His "bad chip" would've been my best chip of the day.

A chipping lesson for these conditions would be of much benefit me and for many of your subscribers I suspect. Thanks for all your help.
Robert Halle that’s a great idea Robert. I will get one produced
I’m gong to have to start paying you for being my lesson pro. Your lessons have helped immensely.
Putting this into practice in the front yard tomorrow morning before I sit down to watch the 4th round of the Open.
Michael J Brennan it’s set to be a great final round...enjoy the golf
I love how simple you make this. I get so unsure of myself and kill my score when I thin it across the green, or chunk it a foot or two. This really simplifies it, and am confident in using this method and make the shortest shot in golf easier! It will definitely knock some strokes off the game!!
Terry Thomas love to hear how you get on Terry, keep me posted 😎⛳️
Danny what distance do you use the chipping technique up to, a lot of instructors say 30-40 yards.
15 yard landing spot is a good guide
very clear video ... gave me a lot of confidence to go back to golf course and chip
That’s brilliant, let me know how it goes
I’d love to see him demonstrate this on Oklahoma golf course fringe. It’s like chipping on office carpet
When the dusts settles I will head out to Oklahoma 😁
Everything you teach is consistent with what my local instructor teaches me but you add a fresh perspective without filling my head with a bunch of contradictory noise. I genuinely appreciate your videos.
Kenneth Neward very kind of you to say and pleased that my videos compliment rather than contradict your teacher
Hi Danny, I tried this today, it really good way to chip! 👏🏻👍🏼 How would change the setup if you had to 10 meters further? Could one still use vertical shaft & pendulum idea?
Im releasing a video on this exact subject at 9:00am GMT
This is probably the best tip i have come across. I was fatting an thinning but this has sorted it right out!! Thanks man!
@johnadams507 thank you so much. That’s great 👏
I wish you would tell us about what club you were using.
Richard Krempulec thanks for the feedback Richard, I will certainly remember going forward. PW here
When Danny uses the white board marker on the bottom of the club head it clear shows PW.
More attention required by you Richard Krempulec!!!
The shaft angle and pendulum demonstration at the beginning of the video was extremely helpful!
Hope it helps Kevin
What degree wedge do you normally use that close to the green? Is that the Gap Wedge or the Sand Wedge?
Danny great tip.
What’s the tip when you are in the rough near the green.
Look forward to your response
Got a video coming out Saturday 9:00am GMT
OMG, Danny I have been practicing this chipping and it really has made an enormous difference. Not only have I been rolling out chips close to the hole but I have actually holed a couple of chips. Brilliant, many thanks again. Kr Gary
Which club is that? Like what degree? What’s recommended?
Probably 60, that's what I use and chips are my most confident shots.
He was using a pitching wedge here
You deserve more followers Danny. Your tips are so simple and straightforward it doesn't require major changes to repeat or practice. I recently dipped into single digits and a lot of this was thanks to incorporating your advice into my game so thank you.
Single fingers! thats amazing Tariq well done
@@DanielMaude thank you, I don't subscribe to youtube channels often, but subscribing to yours has been one of the best decisions I've made for my game. I have recommended it to all fellow golfers and they too have nothing but praise for your teaching style. All the very best to you and I look forward to more of your content
How do you adjust for distance. Do you use different clubs
Good luck 👍
This video 100% made me a better chipper. I would lose so many strokes a game either chunking it or flat blading it over the green. Thank you.
You're welcome.

Danny you have earned my attention by making simple sense with practical understandable explanations and drills that yield results thereby shortening the learning curve and hopefully telescoping my goal to become a single digit handicap.
What loft club are you using for those chip shots?
Don Raabe in this chipping video I’m using a pitching wedge
7,8,9 also work well for chipping like this.
Thanks Danny. I practiced this today and it works really well. Glad I found this on your site. Keep up the great tuition.
Absolute pleasure Graham’s
I just use an 8 iron and pretend it's my putter. Probably the best part of my game honestly.
My dad mastered this trick. Its pretty useful for me if I wanna add 3 strokes to a hole
Thats a great idea
I do that, too. The 8 iron bump and run works pretty nicely. However, I'll use Danny's technique if I'm a bit further out from the edge of the green.
It’s a modified putter stroke really with just an added touch of wrist flex. The hands/wrists are very quiet just like the putter
Best part Danny is the way you keep your head down and still. Contrary to some other pros on TH-cam. If your looking up before you hit the ball it doesn't matter what else you do.
👌
This tip saved both my chipping and my marriage.
Thats a big lesson 😁
I was open stance, ball off my right toe, stabbing down and not being consistent. This drill has made life around the greens much more consistent hence giving me confidence. We all know confidence makes for better scoring. Thanks for helping us with your lessons Danny😊👍
[me going into the backyard to try these techniques]
[chunks the entire backyard into my neighbor’s yard]
AMERICAN x NIGHTMARE let me know how you get on
Thanks for the tip. Thanks.
That’s brilliant Jim, well done. Thanks for taking the time to share
Phil says never chip with ball in middle of stance...either back or forward
Tony Tanti he does indeed, he also says hinge and hold but then proceeds to release the club through impact...I love Phil and he’s a genius...
Danny, you do such a great job simplifying this maddening game!!!
Doug Hill funny, it’s only because I got caught in the trap of listening to people making it too complicated and it never worked
I am subscribing to your lessons Danny. You make sense and I trust I will see results when I follow your instruction - thank you!
Awesome, thank you! welcome to our community
Why would nearly 300 dislike this? Maybe because they don’t like 25,000 liking it! Danny is great.
Thanks for the support 👍
Danny, you are awesome. I'm getting back to golf after 20 some years, now that kids are grown. Your videos really helped my game.
Thanks Juha 👍
I think this chip tip/routine will help me save extra 5 strokes, as my chip shot is inconsistent and your tutorial makes much more sense and intuitive.
Jeff Chien really hope so Jeff, hope this helps
Both of your chipping videos have helped me a lot. I have improved but still need more practice thank you so much.
Miguel Villarreal thanks Miguel, I’m constantly trying to get better through practice...it never really stops 😁⛳️
Thank you kindly, Danny. I understand what you are saying and now I have to put it into my play.
Brilliant 👍
Great video my chipping has improved greatly last 3 rounds. It working for me Tks !!!!
Wonderful to hear
