This was the first time Dimash ever performed on what he calls “the adult stage “. He was the only non Chinese and had to go first to open This 2017 season of The Singer in China. Dimash was invited to compete amongst known, established singers in China. He came in 2nd place. A Chinese woman won the only prize by just 0.10. In my eyes, ears, and heart, Dimash won this competition and the Chinese knew it. Each week he had to learn a new song. Dimash was only 22.6 years old during this competition. My favorite version is from the Slavic Bazaar because his French pronunciation is much much better. The performance when he is in a red suit is nice but I prefer that he stand and sing and not get on his knees and hide his face.

You couldn't have picked a better video to start with. Perfect. SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione. SOS was Dimashs‘ first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among other countries. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. Luckily he was able to assert himself in the performance. He can be very stubborn. He listens, but then does what he thinks is right. The other competitiors might not have taken Dimash seriously at first because of his age and that they didn’t know him but that quickly changed after the performance of SOS, as you can see. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. BTW the audience is also the jury. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. The audience members are the judges, its why the Chinese music producer was trying to convince Dimash to go in a different direction, to excite the audience. Of course, Dimash knows what he wants even at the age of 22. If you watch earlier performances of Dimash singing SOS (before this show) you can hear the slight differences they made to the song.

SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! SOS is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here. The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. Dimash is a world class artist from Kazakhstan, turned 28 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, he also performs in concerts with the famous Ukrainian/Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He started his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 15 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. I say so since he always say that the best is still to arrive. I love his SOS performances at Slavic Bazar (the year after this competition) other people prefer the one of his digital show in his web site. Just if you want to listen to this song again you may try other performances of the same song. Nevertheless he has so many master pieces you will feel in heaven listening to him. Among my favourites: Stranger, Ave María, Be with me, Across Endless Dimensions, Sinful Passion, Ikanaide, Love is Like a Dream, Okey, Diva Dance (Bastau concert). Congratulations on getting to hear this masterpiece. This is my second favorite performance of him singing this song. My favorite version is from the Slavic Bazaar because his French pronunciation is much much better. The performance when he is in a red suit is nice but I prefer that he stand and sing and not get on his knees and hide his face.

SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione.
SOS was Dimashs‘ first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among other countries. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. Luckily he was able to assert himself in the performance. He can be very stubborn. He listens, but then does what he thinks is right. The other competitiors might not have taken Dimash seriously at first because of his age and that they didn’t know him but that quickly changed after the performance of SOS, as you can see. Through his honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today.

And please always watch the videos to the end. Very often there are interesting things to learn. Either there’s something to laugh about, or he’s talking to his audience. He always thanks his musicians. He is incredibly humble and never acts like a star. When he is praised, he constantly says that it is thanks to his teachers and his parents, who made it all possible for him. He’s just incredible.
Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas.
If you want to know a little more about Dimash, then I suggest you to watch the video where his father was in the audience. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed. It was a big surprise for him as he saw his father.
I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional.
BTW the audience is also the jury.
During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰.
I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. I think what's happening today in the world worries him a lot.

In Kazakhstan they speak Kazakh......and a lot of the population also speaks Russian, as they were part of Russia. The people in the green rooms are the other competitors. The audience members are the judges, its why the Chinese music producer was trying to convince Dimash to go in a different direction, to excite the audience. Of course, Dimash knows what he wants even at the age of 22. If you watch earlier performances of Dimash singing SOS (before this show) you can hear the slight differences they made to the song.

SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! SOS is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here.
The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. Dimash is a world class artist from Kazakhstan, turned 28 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, he also performs in concerts with the famous Ukrainian/Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He started his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 15 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. Thanks for your wonderful reaction. We, the Dears, are really thankful for any Dimash reaction. You just saw a 20 % of what he is able to do so far. I say so since he always say that the best is still to arrive. I love his SOS performances at Slavic Bazar (the year after this competition) other people prefer the one of his digital show in his web site. Just if you want to listen to this song again you may try other performances of the same song. Nevertheless he has so many master pieces you will feel in heaven listening to him. Among my favourites: Stranger, Ave María, Be with me, Across Endless Dimensions, Sinful Passion, Ikanaide, Love is Like a Dream, Okey, Diva Dance (Bastau concert). I just realize I do not have a favourite one, all are amazing. Among covers, one of my favourite is, Hello (Lionel Richie) Opera 2 ( Vitas) and Adagio. Again, difficult to pick only one. After that, you maybe prepared for “The Story of One Sky” (first I recommend to watch the video and then the live performance in part Three of his concert in Almaty, where he premiered it), he also premiered there “El Amor en Ti” another “WOW” song. Also, he recently, for his birthday, offered his Dears a new song to say Thank you for all the gifts he always receives from them “Omir” Wow! You said music is medicine…?
