  • It might look like it escaped from the Jetsons but this little three-wheeler was Ralph Hough's every day vehicle from 1962 to 1965. Full Article: wp.me/p3LQCT-YqN

I'm a direct decedent of the Messerschmitt family on my grandmother's side..Mixed emotions about anything that was used in a war effort..😶 But it is a cute Lil car! Thank you for posting! 💖

I don't believe it was in the car effort. I think it came after the war.

Maybe…… you need to save up for one, and be a caretaker of it in your family’s name. You can sell it for $$$$ when you’re 95 years old. 😊

Some of the best planes of the war. You should be proud of the engineering prowess. Messerschmitt didn't make bombers either so their planes were only used to shoot down other combatives and defend German citizens from allied bombs.

Having one of these amazing machines would be an absolute dream!! I’ve only recently become enamoured with micro cars and this is absolutely stunning! Driving one has now been added to my bucket list!

I worked for 10 years at Manching, in Bavaria as part of a multi-national aircraft project. The site is formerly a Messerchmitt factory and it houses a small Willi Messerchmitt museum containing mainly historical aircraft but also a number of these wonderful cars :)

Had one in the early sixties, about 3 years, kickstart. I went through a herd of cows, as they walked up the road, I was lower than them and as they passed me by they do what cows do, and I came out the other end covered in cow poo. I looked like one giant turd. how that cowman Laughed. we got water from a cow trough to wash us off so we could see out again. True story.

The model for these vehicles was Velorex from Czechoslovakia. To this day, the first machines of this kind can still be found there.

I enjoyed talking to Ralph back when I was restoring a KR175 which had reverse you could engage by cable lever without shutting off the engine.

This is an amazing machine! I love the part where you have to actually run the engine backwards to move in reverse. I just discovered this channel through Oppo and I love the videos here. Subscribed for more!

Beautiful concept of cockpit cabin :) Shame there is no presnt company making replicas of them for various engines like Peel P50 - this one is far more useable concept as modern electric or hybrid car - but even with its original engine it is simply beautiful :)

I once knew a nurse who had no idea about the reverse running engine to go backwards and at the time neither did I. One day she parked nose in to the wall of the Oxford Eye hospital where sh worked. I happened to walk past when she was leaving so I simply lifted the front end with her in it and wheeled it back like a wheelbarrow so that she could drive away.

I see your unrestored 'schmitt even has the original side windows with the moulded-in knobs. If you slam the canopy with the windows shut, there is a tendency for the sudden increase in air pressure to pop a window out and crack it. Both the ones I owned in the '60s lacked a complete set of original windows: it was cheaper to make your own replacements.

Does anyone know what the average fuel consumption is of these cars? It probably isn't as good as a 4 stroke engine but on the other hand, the power to weight ratio of a 2 stroke is better.

    • @isetta4083

After the war, German manufacturers were banned from building weaponry and military equipment, so many used their factories and brand names to manufacture tiny compact vehicles, like Heinkel and Messerschmitt. With Messerschmitt it's especially apparent they were designed by plane engineers and built in plane factories
