I like the interior of you the new z4, and the exterior of your old z4. Not a big fan of the new front headlights. Overall great video of comparison.

The front of the g29 is simply ugly. I don't think i will ever buy the new Z4. I'm getting another car if ever need one, not g29.
Nothing in the G29 that would want me to upgrade, the E89 is the best looking roadster since the Z8, design will go down more than well 20 years down the road

Yes new car just looks like another 2 seater. There is just something about the E89 the new car doesn't capture.

Totally agree, the E89 looks so much better than the new G29.. I don't see myself getting rid of my 2010 E89 30i anytime soon..
No doubt about it the e89 party piece is the metal folding roof, yes it adds weight to the car but it's a piece of engineering

Nazz as always just a Great car review of a new Z 4 versus the 2016 Z4. I love my Z4 2016 because of the hard top roof and it is a wonderful car to drive, I think the newsy four is a great car but I don’t like a ragtop so I will stick with my 2016 which as always gives me a great thrill of a ride.I love your car reviews, keep them up.
What I love about the e89 is that’s it’s one of the best looking cars out there thats has a retractable hard top which makes it a unique car. The biggest advantage of hard tops is that for me they offer good visibility while with soft tops you have a lot of dead corners. Another thing which is great is the long bonnet while in the the new one it feels like your driving a small hatchback.
I have the 35is, having moved on from the Z4M Roadster. The E89 is so good, I have no wish to move on to the G29 at all. Quite happy with mine. Great video.
Hi Ness, I just bought a 2016 E89 S20i recently after watching plenty of your videos. I agree that the Run Flat Tires are noisy and stiff. I hear you mentioned several times about the stuff ride but why you not considering changing it to a non Run Flat to improve the ride and noise level? I am going to do it after the lockdown period in my country.

I have had an E85 and two E89s. You mention the G29 is taller. What I am curious about is it easier to get in and out of. I can do the E89 just fine, but it could be eaiser. Thanks very much for your review

@@ZimbaMotoring I have a 20i Valencia orange E89 with stage 1 and quad exhaust. Sounds better than the G29 in the video. Plenty of crackles and pops👍
I like the retro look of my E89, kansas beige with the wood trim, reminds me of those Italian speed boats.
I'm sure the G29 is the better car, tech wise. Being the latest development, it should be. Design wise however it can't hold a candle to the E89 in my opinion. While I do like the G29's seats and the centre console which opens up in two parts, I'm not a fan of the digital instrument cluster. Again, it may be a tech masterpiece, but I prefer old school analog meters. I also love the E89's round, classic looking airco dials which give the dashboard a unique touch. The infotainment screen clearly has improved, but I like it that it is fold away in the E89. Sometimes I just fold it away if I don't need it, just because of the cleaner dashboard look. The G29's engine delivers more power, which is nice and it does have a nicer exhaust sound, but the E89 is no slouch either and the exhaust doesn't sound bad at all for a 4-cylinder. The exterior look of the G29 certainly isn't ugly, but it's more brutish with those sharp creases and slits everywhere. That's the modern style. The E89 is much more elegant however: a car for ladies and gentlemen as opposed to street hoodlums, style wise. And that folding hardtop is a great feature; as you've said: two cars into one. I like its endless bonnet and low seating position just before the rear axle, I prefer this over the G29's more "regular" cabin feel. And I'm still not used to the G29's stacked headlights and that front grille; the E89 has a lot more old school BMW signature to it. Perhaps the E89 has a harsher ride. I'm the proud owner of a 2016 20i M-sport model, just like you, also on those 19" rims and on runflats, and I never found the ride quality a problem. It's a sports car after all; there must be some spice in the ride. I will definitely keep my E89 until it falls apart. Only then will I consider buying the G29. So it's not that I abhor it, far from it. But I prefer the E89. Just my two cents of comment on your excellent review. Keep the Z4 content coming!
I think the E89 will run for ever, mine is now ten years old, had it seven years, it's like a new car to me. Only minor niggles well documented on the Z forum.

Does the new car have artificial engine noise pumped into the cabin via speakers?
Got my new Z4 G29 two weeks ago. Unfortunately, due to the current situation I've only driven for about 200Km (I did not even have the chance to do the first fuel re-fill), but I'm super happy about it. It feels so nice and it's such an enjoyable car. Definitely a big improvement compared to my previous C class, which overall was only OK, but quality wise I was very disappointed.
I've been to my place of work everyday for the last four weeks driving my E89 with the roof down and the roads quiet.

Well the E89 aesthetically is by far, for me, the prettier car, the new G29 looks less like a classic roadster. Gadgets don't bother me...the E89 has everything I need really. When you look at a E89 next to a BMW 507, you can see the heritage, the G29 looks like a M135i.not very special... roadsters are supposed to be pretty and different.... that's why you buy them.

The interior on the G29 looks similar to the rest of the latest generation of BMW. Unlike the E89, it is just unique. The G29 looks good but I am sure the look of E89 will still remain gorgeous in years to come.
hardtop folding roof - e89 won just there.. then design /front/back- e89 interior- e89 manual available- pop up i-drive, can hide making it timeless, instead of outaded in 10 years like the new one, and no touch buttons, that you will crash to operate, in my book there is not single metric the new one wins.. that is reflected in the second hand prices of the e89, at least in my country, prices are higher after the new one release.
edit: also your e89 looks like it as a 25-35 side profile tire and the g29 had a 45 side profile tire, and i am not saying the new one is not better in ride comfort, it might be! but it is really hard to compare platforms with tires so different in terms of comfort..
I own a 2010 Z4 S35I And cant understand why anyone would not want the twin turbo 6 cylinder. The N54 is a wonderful engine. BTW my Z4 for some reason got the steering wheel on the right side of the car. LOL Yep I'm a Yank.

A very important item you didn't cover was how the G29 tackled corners, twisty roads etc... In this aspect it is much, much better....
I have an E89 but the G29 drives much better.. The stock E89 is a flawed driving machine..
One this is sure the older E89 are going to last better as newer BMW are not as well built...
e89 rules over the G29 surely..
I share your enthusiasm for the new z4, however, I am interested in the M40i and at that price point, I can just buy a new Corvette. Why get the z4? It’s pointless!
Just get its cheaper brother then.
