      What is funny is I just bought a natural opal today because it looks just like an old woman's face...it fascinates me when something natural comes from the ground and imitates a natural gemstone.......also I dream of handling hundreds of brilliant cut diamonds

    This is how diamonds should be shown in their natural state; untreated and apreciated for their god given beauty. I didn't know diamonds came in bicolors either Rebecca and every last one was beautiful. My favorites are the salt and pepper and the starburst but the animal shapes wow just amazing!. Thanks Andrew for bringing your wonderful collection and sharing them with us.

    I hope this video might inspire lapidary artisans to incorporate unique diamonds like those into their works and in turn create more of a commercial demand. There have probably been so many unusual but gorgeous diamonds like those discarded for not being "commercially viable". Takes the phrase "diamond in the rough" to a whole new level! Btw, that starburst octohedron looks like a holographic recording of the birth of the universe. The Big Bang Diamond🎆

    I have been more interested in colored gemstones, but seeing these kinds of diamonds are interesting the starburst and the animal collection is outstanding !
    And I do agree, though they have less fire, I prefer the old cuts of diamonds.

    What a FANTASTIC video!! These were so gorgeous and it shows how special ALL diamonds are! I’m so glad I found this- can’t wait to purchase the book for my students- it goes to show there just isn’t a bad purchase with any diamond- it’s always an investment for so many reasons- personal and financial!! ❤️ 💎

    • @wasd____
      @wasd____ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the average person, a diamond is a terrible purchase as an investment. No jeweler will buy it back for anything _close_ to what you pay as a retail purchaser. The commercial gem diamond world wants diamonds to be essentially disposable; once purchased at a high retail price, the market is set up so they have little resale value.
      Unless you're a connected dealer who can get them at wholesale and flip them, you buy a diamond for sentimental reasons, not investment reasons, and expect to lose essentially all the monetary value you put into the purchase. Period.

    I have some diamonds i found in a farm field in michigan when i was walking my dog and we were looking for some deer tracks. They were sooo beautiful, so i took them back and cleaned them up. I took them up to a local jeweler to have them tested. I was so excited when she tested several very large diamonds and she said they were real diamonds. I did some research and found out that michigan had a lot of coal mines and some known kimberlite pipes as well. I looked a little deeper, and found out that Michigan also had volcanic activity. So the chances of finding them here are great. There are many kimberlight rocks all around there too. I also found a two piece meteorite in the same field. Please Let me know if u may know anyone who may like to purchase some. GIA charges per carat and i really don't have that kind of money right now.
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

    I didn't know I had diamonds amongst my collections, I got some crystals, quarts, some glass stones, in all I still haven't seen a blue one yet, even amongst the limestones, that color is missing. Limestones come in various colors and most white ones, sometimes have a fossilized tiny creatures, bugs or shrimps. Some big ones sometimes have a half missing body of a fish or a maybe a lemming, the only mouse-related rodent up here. I Still never found a rest of a missing piece, probably long gone somewhere. Water had been high, at one time or another, I see some gray mud area, with crushed seashells, amongst the hills or even on top, from time to time. The amethyst, light pink crystal and the pitch-black gem and some garnets and are my favorite in my collection. Some gemstones and rocks seemed to have been in a tumbler or polished here too, but nature does its' wonders, so she picked up some and they were real, oily ones too. Ying, you must be in 7th heaven.

    8:28 half of it looks like a deep orange. When cut and polished it could yield a fancy vivid orange or fancy vivid yellowish orange diamond that weighs 2 carats more or less. It is worthy to be cut & polished! But I bet the reason why they didn't polished it is because they can predict that the final outcome would be an orange diamond with brown overtones. Without that brown overtones they will surely cut it!

    This is very helpful seeing the different types of diamonds. I read that there are occasional diamonds found in Michigan. I want to know what I have in my hand when I am walking the beaches and picking up stones.

    Even just considering how much money these diamonds are worth, and what it took to make them form and the work it took to mine them, would be enough to make me too nervous to sit at that table. Holy moly!

    So question, using Botswana's mine as the comparison for ethical reasons, as the demand, if you will, for diamond with inclusions is growing, do you think the lab diamond market may start making 'imperfect' diamonds? [that's not saying every lab diamond is flawless to begin with, but all they are trying to do is press carbon into a diamond, they don't have other minerals forming inclusions like in nature] Or will the split between the two markets become "go for mined diamonds if you want inclusions, go for lab diamonds if you don't want inclusions"?

      I have seen “imperfect” man made diamonds with inclusions. Forgive the quotations, but I believe that inclusions give gemstones character! I don’t think that the characteristics of a gemstone will influence people desire for natural vs. man made. They are at the end of the day 2 completely different products. Natural diamonds have been a part of our world for billions of years while man made diamonds are a reflection of that beauty. Both have their story and reason for being here and will be the subject matter of Ruff’s Diamond Word book 2 currently being worked on!!!
