    Did the same thing to my '87 Chevy IROC years ago. There was a damn short in the wiring harness, causing the cooling fans not to operate. Thus, my 350 was overheating. So, we hooked up a toggle switch under the dash, to the battery, to manually operate the cooling fan. Problem solved, until I realized the heads were previously warped from running so hot! A few months later, I was sitting at a red light and KA-BOOM! BYE-BYE CHEVY! Lol

    Better way is to run a wire from the fan up to your fuse box and just wedge it in with a fuse that's on when the car is on, that's how I did my amp turn on wire, I just stuck it in with the fuse for the radio.

    So now your fan runs only on high speed. You do know it is a two speed fan right? I had this problem with my 98 Crown vic, I could jump to the batt. and make it run in high but when you jumped it to low the wire would get very hot indicating the low speed windings were bad. When I looked at the plug for the fan I could see the low speed connector had overheated. I got a new pigtail connector and a new fan and everything works normal again at a total cost of $150. Your fix will work for a little while, but the fan isn't suppose to rum all the time and will end up burning up.

    Easiest way to fix over heating on a junk car: run it without the thermostat, flush your radiator, and wire your fan to toggle switch or find a hot wire that switches off when the car is off.

    On fords, if u disconnect the temp sensor, the fan comes on....so by looping one of the temp sensor wires to a toggle switch then back to the cut end, when u flip the two prong toggle switch, The fan comes on & u do not have to cut the main power wires to the fan.the temp sensor wire is small & low power./easier!!!!

    I noticed a tach in there,really ? Fan modules are lame. The fan should always run.Since when did a motor running too cold be an issue. I gusss if you're in a Chicago winter or north of that.

    • @mrelectron6220
      @mrelectron6220 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zenigmatv A fan should not always run there is no need for it at highway speed the fan is useless more air being forced in though the grill than the fan can pull hence a waste of power drain on the alternator. The whole concept of an electric fan is less power drain on the motor for better fuel economy. Even electric fans put a load on the motor when running but when off offer no drain to the engine in any way VS a mechanical fan that is driven by the motor all the time.

      Well if all the parts are new as you say your fan or fans are dead. Not even rigging up 12V direct to a dead fan is going to make it work. You need to trouble shoot it and find the problem throwing parts at a problem is not the way to work.Nothing about this fix is safe under gauge wire no fuse and extra wire for nothing. There is no law that says you can't wire the 12V direct to the fan and than run the fan ground to the switch in the car and just ground the lug on the switch to the dash frame now your switching a ground instead of a hot wire. You now have one wire with out 12V in it to short out and cause a fire and if it does short the worst case is the fan keeps running till you disconnect it.
