I am trying to study or even copy (if you don't mind) your brush technique, and the way in which you apply the paint, how you add the water, and so on! I appreciate your clear explanations. Your painting came together really harmoniously. I found it interesting how you placed some shadows at the beginning, rather than an afterthought as is so often ‘prescribed’. It was also interesting to note that the sky wasn’t painted in first. Thanks again for an interesting tutorial.
Thank you Andrew! I just have to say that integrating your approach has had a huge impact on my plein air. I really am finding that doing less layers using thicker paint makes the painting look better. I've been doing almost one plein air per day since the start of May and have learnt a lot just by getting on with it. Before I was hesitating a lot with my brush strokes, but just seeing how you just enjoy the process and keep moving along has helped me learnt to do the same. I feel like I'm just thinking less and painting more. And actually most of my plein air from this year, I've been happy with :) I'm wishing you all the best from Finland :D

Thank you. The only suggestion I can make is look hard at edges. Squinting helps. If the edge is fuzzy and vague then don’t emphasise this boundary. The sharp edges will then stand out.
Chinese calligraphy brushes are a bit of an acquired taste but they suit me. I’ve used them, alongside traditional western watercolour brushes, for many years. www.andrewpitt.co.uk

Yes and yes. My clear acrylic drawing board is simply to hold my paper. It is not an alternative to stretching my paper. The frame is the same size as my mount so helps me visualise my work as finished painting.
