    When i first switched to linux i hopped around a lot and manjaro was my comfort distro for almost a year. But some updates broke my boot and as a relative noob i couldn't do much so i started hopping again. Many distros later I found my plate of rice... Fedora. I'm happy here but Manjaro days were something I was happy with. ❤❤

    Yesterday, I tried installing it on my brother's PC. The ISO file was a month old, and I was too lazy to flash a newer one. It installed normally, but then I got a 2.5 GB update. After the update, pretty much every single app didn't work and Wayland stopped working for some reason. I had to switch to x11

    Manjaro is the first distro that I haven't hopped away from. I really haven't had many issues after 5 years using it on the same PC. Besides having to fix the occasional update issue caused by my AUR downloads which is mostly my fault. It's very easy to swap and update kernels. The KDE 6 update is running great for me with wayland and Diablo 4 is working for me now in 4k HDR and FSR 2.1 under Proton. Being able to play games in HDR now is awesome.

    I installed manjaro just a few days ago on my main machine and I specifically remember that during the steam installation pamac asked me to pick one of the vulkan packages and I was like "umm I have no idea why I need this but lets pick vulkan-radeon i guess", and Steam worked with no issues. Actually pamac asked me to pick optional dependencies for anything I installed.
    my mom's laptop has been running manjaro for years now and had no issues during any updates, and I used it myself a long time ago, never really had any problems, and I actually remember thinking it's "misunderstood" occasionally, like a lot of people on youtube would basically expect it to behave like Arch, but it's not Arch and it's not supposed to, and they have good reasons to hold back packages for instance since instead of just releasing random updates all the time and forcing people to deal with random breakages and "manual intervention required" cases, they release updates in waves that are much more curated and never break anything
    also it's pretty cool that manjaro now has automatic bootable timeshift snapshots kinda like opensuse

      @@linuxnext also btw I remember manjaro used to have like a "steam installer" icon in the menu out of the box which definetely worked with no issues. Yes, the error made by the creator here was to assume Paru is a good tool. It is not in the Manjaro repos - yay IS... but Pamac would do this better (and has more 'sane' syntax in terminal... so `pamac install steam` would get you there).

I'm in the first camp, one of those who, after some 5 or 6 years of continuous use, has never had major issues with Manjaro on any of my machines. Like most I hopped in the beginning, but once landing on Manjaro those days ended. Manjaro just does what I expect it to do and I don't see moving on to something else any time soon. I've landed and I'm staying.

    In my opinion, if you’ve been using Linux for some time and aren’t afraid of getting your hands dirty, then it’s the bee’s knees for folks trying to squeeze the life out of their hardware. Yeah, there will be lumps and bumps to tackle, but that’s the point of using a rolling distro. The ecosystem right now is changing and fluctuating and that indicates that it’s alive and thriving unlike Windoze where it’s focused on built-in spyware these days. If you’re a tech enthusiast and have some knowledge of Linux this is a solid distro. Been using it for over five years now and have grown it to as much perfection as I can manage on 14-year-old hardware and I still love it.

    The problem for me is that Manjaro is basically just Arch Linux but nerfed. Updates take longer for not much gain in stability and it's best to avoid the AUR, which is a big loss. The installer and pre-installed packages are nice but EndeavourOS exists. Besides, it's just not good for a beginner, on an Arch distro you pretty much need to hone your troubleshooting and Linux skills to have a decent experience. You can learn a lot of that by installing and using base Arch, but you skip that process when you use Manjaro, and when a problem comes up, a beginner is gonna be clueless on how to solve it.

  • @froedge
    @froedge 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The problem is its ONLY a decent distro with a lot of competition negating its upsides nowadays. Arch isn't hard to install anymore, endeavor exists, it just doesnt make much sense to take the coinflip with a team as incompetent as manjaro anymore :P Good video tho ty

      Endeavor and I don't get along for whatever reason, and Arch is over-rated (in my opinion). I've installed Arch in the past at least 4 or 5 times and frankly don't see a need to do so ever again. Manjaro, perhaps because my expectations aren't over-inflated, works just fine for me. It's been my mainstay for the last 6 yrs.

      @@tombash4329 Yeah I would agree that Arch is overrated tbh, so personally I decided to go with the GOAT and I'm an OpenSUSE Tumbleweed user myself. All the benefits of a rolling release, doesn't really break if you learn to update properly (and if it does you can just rollback in 1 minute), and just an overall great experience. Might be worth considering but if Manjaro works for you, then by all means continue haha.

    Interesting..
    I am a quite new "noob" to Linux myself, started using Linux full-time about a year ago.. Tried Ubuntu, Pop!Os, Mint and Garuda Arch in the beging. Liked Arch the best, bt to many uppdates and messa-git..
    My idear is that Ubunto and "those" are to simple and Arch is to "new" with bleading eatch and a lot of complications that can easily break.
    Then tryed Manjaro on my old 1155 system and it ran greate, but when I "upgraded" to am4 it diden't work well and "testing" kde6 broke. Reinstalled and tryied again, still the same, lockupps and uppdaes that broke boot. "Manjaro is not Arch", maybe.. But seems to have the same problems.
    Been runing Fedora 40 with kde6 now and I am content. No more "distro hopping" hopefully.. Need to make a good backup/clone!
    Just my personal eperience, ideas and preferences..
    Greetings from northern Sweden in springtime!

      manjaro is arch, the unstable mirror is arch, anyone that says that manjaro isnt arch is just lying or misinformed, sure the repos are their own but they pull their packages from the arch repo, stable is just updates that are delayed by a month. fedora is a great distro, glad your having a good experience on it

  • @stevensawolkin3873
    @stevensawolkin3873 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hello, young man. You confuse me. Or perhaps nature has preceded you in that effort. You state that a possible issue with Manjaro is them releasing a package, such as the new kernel, too quickly. Yet most of the complaints I read about Manjaro suggest that the problems usually derive from them holding and curating packages for a week or two, which means the delay in release causes conflicts with AUR packages which do not delay. If I am under some misapprehension, my apologies.

    • @linuxnext
      @linuxnext  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats what i thought originally aswell but they say they update every month on stable repo which is what the majority of users use on manjaro, if we are talking unstable i dont think thats the case either as it updates frequently everyday, and testing well that might be what your talking about but im unsure. reading up on the problems with manjaro that was one of the problems but i dont think thats a issue anymore as they hold it for even longer now for "stability"
      But yes i also mention about the aur and that allowing people to use it on stable can cause issues as packages are held up to a month
