The quilt is scrumptious! I have heard people speak of double gauze, but I haven’t seen it in stores. You are very lucky to have a good relationship with your sister. I’m an only child and would love to have had a sister to sew with and go on trips with.
Rachel, this looks so lovely I can imagine it feels very “cushy”! I’ve never thought of using double gauze in a quilt…thought it would be too fussy to work on because of the stretching! Questions: did you prewash and dry the double gauze? How wide was the fabric? Thanks so much for sharing!
I love your quilt. I was thinking about using the gauze blankets. I already like the feel of them. Thank you so much. Keep at it. I’ll be watching. Liked hearing about your trip to Berlin. I like the idea of taking a long weekend with my sister sewing. Can’t wait to tell her.
I saw where someone used a hair dryer to erase the heat erasable likes instead of an iron. I used it on some appliqué and it worked! I have been wanting to male a double gauze quilt. Now i REALLY want to make one. Love yours and your template is brilliant!
I would love to sleep under a gauze quilt. So beautiful! My husband and I sleep the same - he sleeps under a light blanket and I have that plus a single (we call them twin size in the US) size quilt. 😊
Your quilt is beautiful! You've done an awesome job with the quilting. What an undertaking! Can't wait to see it finished. Honestly, I just want to touch it!!
Your gauze quilt is beautiful! I love the texture! Your way of marking the baptist fan is brilliant! Did you put batting in this quilt? I’m sure you’re done by now bc this video is 10 months old. But if you did use batting in between the layers, I was wondering if you pull the thread in through the back layer, then the knot would pop through the back layer of gauze and then it might get caught in the batting and not pull through to the front. Did you think of trying it that way? Also, regarding the water erasable markers drying out: I made a discovery by accident. On my recent quilt, I tried spraying water to make the blue marks disappear, and they kept coming back. Plus, it was getting the quilt all wet. Well, I had purchased a water pen that was designed for foundation paper piecing . The idea is that you wet the line along where the stitching is and then the papers will pull off much easier. Well, I read someone’s comment that they had tried it for removing the blue lines and it worked. So I tried it, and it did work! I was thrilled! Then I tried it where I had made a mistake in the marking. My blue pen was almost out of ink, and it was pretty dry. When I went to redraw the lines over the area that was wet, the blue pen came back to life and continued marking for quite a while after that! So the lesson is, dip the tip, in some water, and see if it revives the pen! Re: The frixion markers: if you live in an area that gets very cold in the winter time, and I think you do, those marks can come back if it gets cold. So I decided to test those pens on some scrap fabric and see if the marks would wash out. I made several samples. The first one I marked the sample and then I ironed it to make the mark go away. Then I put it in the freezer, and the mark came back; then I tried to wash it out, and it did not want to wash out!😬 Next, I marked another sample and let it dry. Then I tried washing it out with plain COLD water. It became much lighter, but you could still see it. Then I tried washing it out with a little bit of detergent and COLD water, and it came out. I put it in the freezer to test it, and it was gone. So the lesson there is: Using heat will make these marks disappear temporarily, but it will also permanently set them in the fabric. So, if the item ever gets cold again, they will come back. You can always heat it back up or put it in the dryer; but the marks will continue to reappear every time it gets cold. If you want to completely remove the marks, don’t heat set them in the first place. Also when using the water erasable markers, I’ve been told that ironing over those markings will permanently set them in the fabric. So be careful not to iron them until they’re washed out. 🌷
Gorgeous quilt, love the travel story with your sis How fun! I have had all sorts of hand problems and also love hand sewing. Bought myself a metal palm thimble and am amazed at how zero tension is felt in my hands. Take care of the adorable you.
Your quilt is absolutely beautiful! I’m making a similar quilt by adding some EPP hexagons spaced out on double gauze. I love the weight of double gauze here in Texas where it is so hot.
I'm so glad I found your channel, I love all of your sewing tastes! I just ordered some gauze fabric, I can't wait to get it and start my quilt. Did you make your own template for your Baptist fan? I love your quilt and pink is my favorite 😍
Hello and welcome to the channel! Yeah I made the template myself, I think I showed how in this video. It's really handy but marking the fabric can be a pain because of the texture but it's sooo worth it!
Beautiful!! How far apart are your rows? This video has given me inspiration on a quilt that I am currently working on. I had no idea how I wanted to quilt it until I saw your video. Love it!
Your quilt is beautiful..so soft and squishy.. love the Baptist fan design 🤩 … So nice to share these times with your sister and have wonderful memories 🥰🤩🦋………………Quick question : Which batting do you use please..?
Thank you! For this quilt I used warm and plush batting, I dont think I'd use it again as it was pretty plush so a little hard to hand on my hands. Usually I use cotton batting or hobbs heirloom
For my quilt basting, I use 505 spray and then basting pins for extra security. I did also made the template, and I discussed how to make it in the video ❤️
The baptist fan is wonderful on the double gauze! Excellent quilting
I can’t imagine anything softer than a hand quilted double gauze quilt. Looking forward to your finished piece! Beautiful 😊
It is unbelievably soft and squishy!

Thank you, I truly am so lucky to have her ❤️
The double gauze blankets are on Amazon.
Also...I love that you have a sister who shares the same interests as you, that is a huge blessing. Enjoy your weekend away sewing, so much fun!

Beautiful, very inspiring Rachael 💖
Holy Heck- I never knew that’s how a Baptist Fan is marked! You’ve inspired me.
Your marking scheme is ingenious! The floss is showing up nicely.
Rachel you are so sweet. I just love to turn your video on just to hear your precious voice. I love your sewing ideas too! Thank you for all you do
Aww you are too kind!! Thank you for such a lovely comment

So pretty! Thank you for sharing,
I can't believe the amount of work you are putting into it! It's beautiful and it's going to be an heirloom to pass down!
That is looking soo delicate and beautiful. Very pretty pattern, I love how you made you're own fan template.
Thank you so much 😊 it is super cosy!
Very clever with the template, thanks for the tip😊
Ok, just saw that you made it yourself, great idea to use the carton!
Very pretty. I like your idea for marking the quilt. I’m looking forward to seeing it all done.
It’s so beautiful!
Thank you!!
Frixon pen will erase if you hold the iron close to the quilt without applying heat directly on the quilt. Beautiful quilt and quilting. Geat idea.
Thank you for the tip, I'll give that a try
Your quilt is lovely. Very good job😊
That is a beautiful quilt.😊
Lovely!
What a nice memory for you and your sister;)

That double quaze looks amazing and love the color. Is that batting between the gauze? ❤
It is yeah, its cotton batting x
This is AMAZING inspired me to do one piece quilting. Can i ask what type of batting you have used here? Xx
If I remember rightly it was warm and natural wadding 💖

Thank you for the quick reply Rachel .. 😁🦋
Hi Rachel, love the way this looks! Do you pre-wash double gauze?
Thank you, no i didn't x
Love the quilt! How did you baste it with the batting? Did you make the template for marking?
For my quilt basting, I use 505 spray and then basting pins for extra security. I did also made the template, and I discussed how to make it in the video ❤️
Your quilting is lovely Rachel. Can I ask what needle do you use? Many thanks x
Hi did you handle the flimsyness of this fabric when sandwiching your quilt?
Did you launder your gauze before quilting? If not, how much did it shrink after the first wash?
@szelop I did no, it did shrink a little once it was all quilted but I didn't measure it so I don't know how much it actually shrunk, sorry ❤️
What thread do you hand quilt with double gauze?
