I just watched a Japanese restorer peel the pleather and applied a sparse amount of black leather polish, then they worked in sparse black acrylic and a last layer of polish again.. finishing with buffing and dry brushing at the end for a final shine and it was incredible!

@_hypergamy7090 I just had a short conversation with that content creator, he told myself and acouple other people that the shoe polish/grease he applied before the acrylic paint shouldnt have been in the video. Incase you or anyone else reading this was gonna try that method. Apply your layers of paint, then layers of polish(shining each layer of polish).

Whenever painting a cloth like surface that needs to flex and have some movement, I add Angelus Too Soft to the finisher layer. It makes the acrylic finish flexible (too soft) so it won’t crack if flexed or bent. You DO have to heat the layers with Too Soft product added. I use a hair blow dryer without issue. TooSoft is used by custom tennis shoe customisers which is how I learned about it.

If I can give some tips, youre supposed to do very thin coats. Wait 20 minutes inbetween coats. I recommend doing 7-10 coats (Yes really 10). Yours is still very undercooked the leather isnt thick enough and you can still see the fabric underneath.
I then do 3 layers of finishers (20 min between each layer). Always apply finisher as they arent just cosmetic. They protect the pleather from cracking and deteriorating.

Thanks so much for this - I have some vintage collectible plush that I need to restore - they had "boots" that completely flaked apart, leaving nothing but the black fabric on the feet. Going to give this a shot on those - it can't hurt.

Nice job. There really is nothing to lose if you ask me. In the chance it looks really bad keep her for parts and buy a brand new one. Ya you might have to pay a bit more since she's long sold out. There is a third party one out soon, also. Lots of time they get those details better because they learned what didn't work originally.
As far as the restore process I would recommend using a sealer on the fabric first before applying the finish paint. Also Tamiya has a rubber black color that with a gloss clear would look just like patten-leather. Maybe apply with an airbrush too. I think I would also put the items on a spare body to get them as flat and smooth as possible while applying, instead of holding them with my fingers.
    Just thoughts! Great job none-the-less.

Hi Jedi . I am from Singapore 🇸🇬 where the weather is hot & humility is high all year long. My Catwoman flaked badly on the legs n hands. And yeah , i repaired her with with black paint n finisher. Well it works ! The boots n arm sleeves looks like pleather leather and feels with shines.
I have another issue that is the body also started to flake ,and i also paint it with black paint and the end result looks pretty decent.
Well... it still works for me until catwoman 2.0 comes out. Will see the review on the actual material before decide to go for it. Like what you mentioned before in your recent video, it dosent makes sense to get another figure if the material is the same.

This has happened to my Hot Toys Black Widow Ultron Figure. her bodysuit has had the faux leather peel. I was going to just live with it but its pretty annoying considering it was nearly $200 when new. It has also happened to my custom kit bash Yorha 2B. I got some leather thigh high boots that fit perfectly with what I was putting together and she turned out really well. But as time has gone on one day I noticed that her leather boots where peeling. I mean I got the boots for like $5 from toy anxiety but still, my faux leather boots!
This gives me some ideas for at least what I can do, since its already peeled on my black widow Ultron, I think I'll give this a try. Its her whole bodysuit that's peeling so its going to tiresome to take it all off and put it all back on though. The boots are easy enough to do, but the bodysuit....
I hope my BlackWindow HotToys Avengers figure never starts peeling.
I do have another BlackWidow HotToys Avengers in a 2nd box that's never been opened and is sealed. I don't know why I got two, I just did at the time. I'm frightened that my Scarlet Witch Ultron 2nd version leather might start peeling. I really hope not, because she is my favorite.

Yea man I am interested in seeing you do the terminator jacket. Mine soon as I opened the box desentigrated. I started doing what you did in this vid but it didn't look good so I stopped. So I used the mms117 jacket on him. To have one made will cost about $300 plus.

    • @thejediknightswatch
      @thejediknightswatch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It’s tough with that pleather material man. I just sold my terminator figures for two reasons. 1. I didn’t want to deal with the pleather coat/clothes and 2. I’m focusing more on Star Wars, marvel, DC. Would be nice if hot toys could figure something out with that material. I also did a video on fabric spray paint if you are interested. Might not look good for terminator though…

For Darth Vader, should I use acrylic paint or a fabric paint ?
Just bought a second hand ANH Vader and as expected, flaking is an issue. While it’s not the worst looking after I remove all the pleather, leaving the dark grey cloth exposed , as Vader is all black anyways, would probably still want to restore it
