      I don't know, can Monoprice hit gold on everything? I heard of a lot of products with excellent reputation, including graphics pen tablets much better than all the no-name shit we had before and almost on par with older Wacom, manufactured by Huion, including screen versions. Headphones 8323, nobody has quite figured out from which corner of China, but reportedly surprisingly good. Cables also have a good reputation. 3D printers, good solid stuff.
      Now unfortunately i'm in Europe and they are not :( It's possible to order, but it's not as cheap and easy.

    I'm not a huge fan of a lot of wash on the ride but the one thing that I noticed is that there is a very distinct and glassy/clear sound from the tip of the stick when playing in the middle of the cymbal. You can actually articulate the sound of the tip along with, or IN, the wash. It doesn't get "lost" which is what I have always disliked. For $20, this is a steal and definitely a hell of a deal! One person said it is a rideable crash and that's an excellent description. Well done. Now to find one!

    For the price of a single name brand 20" ride you could buy 8 or 9 of these... with 8 or 9 cymbals and some basic tooling, you could cobble together an ENTIRE custom set (1 x ride, 1 x set of hats, 2 x full size crashes, 1 x ozone, 1 x china, 1 or 2 FX cymbals, 1 x ribbon crasher).

    That is fantastic! In the 80's, when I was struggling to find affordable drum gear, cymbals were way out of my price range. I ended up buying no-name crap from pawn shops and they usually didn't last very long. Of course, there was no internet and no Walmart so, I made due until I could afford good stuff. Drum gear finally became more affordable in the 2K's, thanks to Musician's Friend, Guitar Center and the like and I bought a Pearl Export Series 5pc. (Charcoal Metallic) for $500 added the two high toms for $185 and a Zildjian 4 pc cymbal package for $189. Also, added a Pearl, Double Eliminator pedal for $235 and the Pearl rack for $250. All of that being said, I'm definitely going to look into this Walmart cymbal, not because of the price(you can't really lose at $23) but, for that sound! Nice, bright and long decay!

      The Guy On The Minibike so ride is kinda like the high-hat (the cymbal you step with your left), where beginners learn to keep tempo and eventually learn to play around for better sounds. Since you know nothing, I guess Crash can be described as the loud cymbal you hit once rather than continuous. You can call some cymbals hybrid wherein you can use them as both ride and crash.

    Reminds me of the no-name ride I used back in high school. Didn't sound altogether terrible, but the volume and sustain when used as a crash meant that it was all you were going to hear for a good 30 seconds afterward. It completely drowned out the rest of the kit when you really hit it.
    It honestly sounds better as a crash, but if you try to tone down the ring some I just about guarantee it'll start sounding more like a trashcan lid than a cymbal.

    Monoprice is actually known for making decent quality products for a ridiculously low price. I have a couple guitar pedals of theirs and they're fantastic. A buddy of mine has a Les Paul replica and it sounds surprisingly awesome! I'm a big fan of Monoprice stuff, actually, lol.

  • @RyanCogar
    @RyanCogar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thought it would sound at least decent once you mentioned the B20 bronze opposed to brass, although for the quality of material that is a fantastic price as I was probably expecting some beginner-esque brass cymbal. Stagg make some pretty incredible sounding cymbals for some great price points with their bronze alloys & such.

    $20 for a ride cymbal that's made out of B20 bronze (same material as high end cymbals), is hammered, and sounds pretty damn good. This just goes to show you how much the musical instrument industry is RIPPING OFF musicians.

    • @brianrubin4263
      @brianrubin4263 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont be confused those b20 cymbals a pressed out of plat bronze. High end good cymbals are always cast in bronze way different animal.

    • @IRLguy777
      @IRLguy777 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianrubin4263 Except that cheap companies like Wuhan say they use hand hammered cast B20 right on their own website, not plate bronze. So I don't think plate vs cast is going to make a huge difference in terms of manufacturing cost. Also the alloy itself doesn't change the manufacturing cost much either, Paiste sells B8 cymbals for an arm and a leg, and A&F drum company is selling brass cymbals for friggin $400. It's all marketing hype if you ask me.

  • @Jonathan-yi8bn
    @Jonathan-yi8bn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It would be cool to see you drill a bunch of holes in it much like the "100 rivets in a cymbal" video to see if it makes it quieter. Just like the Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals. It would also be great to see you make mesh,low volume drum heads. I know a great deal of people would apreciate a quality tutorial on diy low volume drum heads and cymbals.

  • @PaulTheSkeptic

    That actually doesn't sound that bad for $20. It's cheap and therefore it's probably thin and therefore it will eventually probably break but, if I needed something and just didn't have the money, this could be a very good option. Or, just buy a gross of them for that price.

  • @the1realanalogman

    Heck of a crash/ride (or ride/crash) for $20ish! It's got a nice ride undercurrent and for my taste, a useful, dark crash tonality. I had no idea Wally World sold these. I'm gonna cop!
