Damn brother, glad you're okay! You nailed it when you said that this very well could have cost you your life and nobody is going to man up and take responsibility for the cause of the damage internally it seems so best to just put it behind you and chalk it up as a learning experience so that next time you will know better and remember this is racing like Tommy said shit does happen but it's how you recover from it and learn from that makes a great racer!
Friday nights last pass was insanely Fast....... I watched every pass Friday night and only Brent Self was running as fast as you where.... Man the car was freaking amazing with that 29 on it...... Can't wait to see you get it all fixed and back out, but you have a winner in the back up position as well... Bring out the S10!!!!!! Hopefully the Nova is fixed by Oct 8th..... That's a tall order, but if anyone can get it done its the SRC Team...... Hope Big Rob and Kenny make it to I29......

Facts I get emotional sometimes watching these guys because I lost my dad at 23 to cancer. I’m 33 now and never gets easier imo. I love this channel because my dad and I were tight and used to race and do everything together.

If we have to add weight, we don’t simply add on metal or weld pieces on - that’s a lower-end way of doing things. What we always do is we simulate what weight needs to be added to the crank using a bolt at first.”
When adding weight to the crankshaft, you use what is called mallory metal, which is quite a bit heavier than the steel of the counterweights. When adding mallory, you should always press it into the side of the crankshaft counterweight rather than the top.

“Pressing it into the side makes it impossible for any weight to come out as the crankshaft is rotating around,” Morris says. “If someone were to weld mallory into a hole on the top of the counterweight, a lot times what can happen is it can fly off the crank and shoot through your oil pan, causing oil to drain onto the track and likely sending you into the wall. That’s why if you need to add weight, we always add mallory metal into the side. We even add a little bit of weld to ensure that it will never slide back and forth.”

Seeing this was heartbreaking, yet it was also one of the nicest moments I have seen .
When Joey aka ( Beater Bomb) came to commiserate Billy not only did he just say how bad he felt about the crash but he provided us with yet another demonstration of how humble that man is by him handing Billy his winnings. This shows us all that there's some absolute giants in the racing game of which he is outstanding in his moral compass others need to take note of Joey.
Hopefully Billy will be back real soon providing us fankids old and young with much more entertainment keep kicking huge goals guys much respect to all the SRC critters .

Billy I've been racing for a long time and I sent this video to my old engine builder and he said that no engine builder worth their salt would never balance a crank like that and it's criminal because that could have turned out bad for you. I'm glade your ok.
Engine builders do it like that all the time. Now I don’t know of anyone who puts it straight up & down in the crank and I’m not sure if that’s how they done it. If they did then that’s stupid as fk! I’ve always balanced mine by drilling through the throw of the crank from front to back or vice versa never up and down because centrifugal force will definitely sling it out.
@@e-racer4673 Yes balancing a crank goes back 100 plus years but you do not add weight to the crank lobe on the edge, you always add it front to back in the lobe. if you watch the video to the end you will see they added weight right next to the hole they drilled to take weight out.
At First several months ago I looked at the nova like its a red headed stepchild .. The truck is what sucked us all in ... HOWEVER NOW WE ARE ALL ROOTING FOR THE NOVA ! You will face many defeats in your life Billy ...Never let yourself be defeated brother !

I feel the same; I subbed to the SRC when Billy had 28,000 subscribers and haven't missed an episode since; when I saw the crash, I was more upset than I'd have ever thought possible for a young man whose hand I've never even had the pleasure to shake; you honestly do feel like part of the family.
I'm darn near (closer than I want to say) old enough to be the Old Man's, Old man, but every time I queue up an SRC or Old Man's Garge video, I feel like a kid inside once again.
There's a bunch of us who have grown close to Billy and his family.

Despite the unfortunate events. Yall made the best of it and this was one of the best videos. The editing, fan interaction, and moments captured were absolutely awesome.
That is why you TIG weld in the Mallory metal, instead of pressing it in. Balanced a lot of cranks and always welded them in, fail safe.
That big slug should have been in horizontal in the crank not vertical little harder to do but fail safe
Box is definitely going to feel this after the number of fans and racers that see and hear about this. Wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't tried to lie and shun responsibility. Their fault or not should have just said we got you 🤷

@@MrAlcline For one that crank now has to come out and be rebalanced which is gonna be costly. And yes replace all damaged parts. The amount of business they are gonna lose is going to be a helluva lot more money than the cost of fixing that car.

The other thing with them wanting it back to fix it is so they can cover up anything else that's not correct, and get it fixed before anyone else sees it. I bet Unvle Bob will find more issues as well, it shouldn't be wearing the Rod Bearings again, that's an issue right there that isn't right....
@@chrisvercher4325 Big power with boost and steel rods is a bad idea as it pounds out the bearings. This is one situation where aluminum rods are the correct part, they act as shock absorbers (still destructible with a bad tune) and won't work the bearings nearly as much. The shitty thing here is the size of the mallory he was holding wouldn't have been necessary if they had installed aluminum rods in the engine from the get go. (rods are much lighter, need less weight in the crank counterweights)
Not to mention the oil pressure issues from the start. Sorry to say, but I’m sure more engine issues will be found
@@bigboreracing356 there's a lot to be said about your comment but opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. When Mallory is installed right it doesn't come out, it's expensive and I'm sure Billy paid for it to be done right. As for the oil pressure issue I'm certain a call was made from the engine builder to run it before he made the decision. On the other hand the decision not to run a diaper is in my opinion neglectful. He's more upset and well within the right to say what he said.

They probably have way too big of a gap in his bearings throughout the engine probably why he has oil issues when it's not brand brand new oil I have a very similar setup that's been in my car for years with just routine maintenance for how much he is pushing it steel rods shouldnt do that.. 17lbs is not alot lmao I run 35-50 lbs depending on track my bearings have 180+ passes at this point still great oil pressure..
I've been building racings motors for more than 30 years. When I balance a crank, put Mallory in it, I always tig weld them in on both sides, so this does not happen, in short you need to find a new engine builder.

The counter weight problem could have been avoided by some welding by the engine builder. They obviously didn't do a quality check before building the engine
I agree! The engine builder making the situation worse by lying about who balanced the crank instead of taking responsability and keeping a good customer is ignorant and def shows what kinda ppl they really are!!

Glad you didn't get hurt Billy! Mallory flying off of crankshafts has been a problem for years with folks that don't know how to properly install it. Kind of knew something was fishy when the car was running after the crash and it still sounded good. I wonder if you could find a reputable frame shop and get a base line check for the car. They could pull the horns back in shape. Can't wait to see that Nova back, its one bad Hot rod. You both need to get some roll bar padding in your cars! Hans device or a horse collar. And get those seatbelts pulled tight....Tommy was pretty loose in that seat! We can replace racecars...... ❤
It's actually lucky a spectator didn't get beaned with that mallory. BTW an engine diaper or catch tray might have prevented the wreak.

Thought they had better business than that.. there's no way around it that's their screw up..if it was someone else they would have pointed the finger there .. they tried blaming Callie's but unfortunately for them Callie's keeps great record on good parts and it was an unweighted crank and than saying maybe it was a different guy and hes dead now is the ultimate cop out and bad business practices... They should have tried to save face and made it right.. imagine if billy was in a totally different situation like you said on the big end

I was thinking what the hell when you said it blew up because I've seen endless numbers of engines blown on a dragstrip and there is always massive engine noise or the engine is locked up, and the Nova had none of that, It sounded fine the entire time, and then you shut it down. So seeing what really happened made better sense. What a massive screw-up! So glad that whatever Beater Bomb did happened because at that point y'all would have most likely been side by side and that wouldn't have been good! Glad nobody was hurt due to whoever screwed up balancing that crank.

The engine builder being so shady is a admission of guilt. They should of been more willing to make things right instead of passing the buck on to others.

For the highest performance engines have the Mallory put into the side. Or have the crank lathe balanced, much more precise, and you won't have to worry about crank Mallory issues.
Mallory is ok as long as it is TIG brazed and not going anywhere.
Glad you’re safe even though it sucks to wreck your car over a malfunction or over someone’s poor mistakes of building a engine keep the videos coming try to stay positive keep the Lord at your heart and keep what you love to do and never give up
Engine had oil pressure issues from day 1 that should've been the first sign that a 30k Engine shouldn't have those issues
@@jonathanlawson4667 Cleetus McFarland high dollar Steve Morris engine had oil pressure issues too. Difference was a Steve come out and fixed the problem. That’s one of the things that separates a good builder from a parts assembler.
@@bigboreracing356 that I can agree with. If it was mine I wouldn’t run it like that it would go back. With that being said the balancing weight had nothing to do with the oil pressure issue. Even if the engine would have been returned and fixed most likely he would have used the same crank and that Mallory bomb would have still been sitting there waiting. Whoever done that crank screwed up, the fact the builder lied about it is not justifiable.

Hell of a video bro love the new camera and I love your real true sportsmanship something that real athletes and competitors Sports don't have anymore and it doesn't matter who balanced the crank a man who passed away if it was done in your shop you should own up be a man and pay for what damages you done they was quick to take the money to build it though I guess that motor shop don't really realize how big a fans you got all across the world and once again way to handle the situation and most Racers would have left the front end I'm glad you left it for a right cause and like you said somebody was looking out for the both of y'all and props to beater bomb for being a good sport drivers like that is what keeps the fan base getting bigger

Wow the engine builder should foot the cost.. if those weights are installed properly it is impossible for that to happen bud... Steve Morris shows how it's done on one of his Steve tech vidoes.... you should think about letting him build you a 540 or at least let him go over that one to make sure it's all as it should be and maybe letting him do his cam package... I'm speaking from experience brother

Fact. I just watched the Steve Tech video where he goes over crankshaft balancing. Explains what happened to Billy's car practically verbatim, and that video is over seven months old! The guy's amazing.
