I love FF7, and FF9 but I just can't play the OG versions anymore. Once you've experienced the wide array of mods that significantly improve the graphics and rebalance the combat it's a tough ask to go back.
It would be if I could find a physical copy at a decent price lol. I've been waiting for play asia to come back in stock but that game is an absolute classic!
Oh man brother I just sold an extra physical copy I had of the 2 games. I sometimes see them at different Flea markets. So if I find one at a good price I'll message you and send it to you. Keep up the great videos.

Five more days till FF Pixel Remaster is released for Switch that will give me FF VI now all we need is Chrono Trigger released to Switch and I can die a happy man
Wow, another fan of the Ogre Battle series. I consider it my favorite RPG series of all time (and I too prefer the gameplay of OG Ogre Battle and 64 though Tactics Ogre is still great of course). And Final Fantasy 5 is definitely underrated. It's not my favorite (that will probably always be 6) but I'd put it top 5, which I don't think most western fans would. I gotta say though, it's kind of unfortunate that most of your picks are ports or remasters. It goes to show that (J)RPGs aren't what they used to be in terms of quantity of good and great original titles. Also, you didn't mention Shin Megami Tensei V, one of the few JRPG exclusives on the Switch. It's not the best SMT game to me (that would be 2 or 3), but I had a lot of fun with it. I just wish it had more replay value since the way it's designed you can just reload a save near the end and see all of the endings (and so of course that's what I did, ha ha). It should've been like the older games where more of the flags or alignment changes happened earlier and throughout the story.
I have not played shin megami 5 but I hear great things about it and yes OgreBattle is my favorite franchise. Zelda has my favorite game but my heart belongs to the story in OgreBattle. As far as most of my pics being ports that I purely my love for some of these old franchises and I have too many fond memories with them. Thanks for watching my video friend!
@@ogre27kain No problem. Glancing at your other vids, it seems like you own every Switch game worth owning, lol. That's impressive. I guess you probably could do a list of top ten turn based RPGs that are exclusive to the Switch (at least original turn based RPGs from 2017 and beyond, since third party console exclusivity gets rarer and rarer each gen) if you wanted to. My impression is that JRPGs (and turn-based in general, I suppose, though some western efforts like the Divinity Original Sin games have stood out) have long been in a rut of sorts, but then I can't help but compare to the SNES/PS1/PS2 days when good JRPGs from higher profile developers were so abundant. I suppose those times are never coming back.
Let me get this straight, if we don't start buying switch rpg's like you say the nintendo is going to stop offering them to us? Do you have inside knowledge from nintendo about your comment? Maybe the lack of sales should be taken by nintendo to mean we are sick of their poor quality low resolution games and should make a next-gen console to compete with the competition for our hard-earned money!
it is not Nintendo this comment was directed towards but rather square Enix. They are having second thoughts on alot of the rpg ports due to low sales and I don't have insider knowledge this was widely reported.
If you enjoy Kings Bounty 2 (I platinumed it), you will LOVE Kings Bounty The Legend, which is not on consoles though. It's worlds better than KB2 and has a lot different realms. The Demon Realm alone is worth it, and the music....(Under the Shadow of the Oak)...god-tier.
@@ogre27kain Yes, The Legend and Crossworlds, the sequel, are incredible. The gameplay is amazing, the different worlds look great, the music is legendary. Trust me if you would have played them, KB2 would be soo disappointing. Legend needs some hours until you leave the human areas but once you reach the Elves and Demons you will love it even more. Highly recommend them, especially if you like a huge variety of units, and a great artstyle. Only minus is that is has lots of texts but who cares if you have awesome combat and worlds...

Maybe change the video to just Top 10 JRPGs for Switch. Cause Turn Based and Strategy RPGs are totally different. Otherwise I think this is Great! I agree with you on a lot of your picks.
although you are correct I view srpg's as having the same mechanics and alot of similarities to regular jrpg's maybe in the future I will do another version and try to break the genres apart. Thanks for the feedback!

HD-2D is just so awesome to me. Im really looking forward to the dragon quest 3 HD-2D game coming out. Also, unpopular opinion, final fantasy 7 is boring 😅. Ive always found it to be boring. I assume its only really super popular because its a lot of peoples first rpg or jrpg. The remake is great tho Also, i love chrono cross. I remember this game used to get so much hate when i used to love it as a kid. Now a days, i only ever hear praise for it. Lol, like whered all the haters go?
I agree I love HD2D and I think most of the nostalgia from 7 comes from some of the story elements. it was the first rpg to do a few things and also make it mainstream. As far as Chrono Cross I've never been a hater and actually bought it day one way back on the ps1. The Chrono series is the best series of all time!
While "simple" and "safe" applies to Dragon Quest XI, I would say the game actually has one of the most epic stories I've seen in a JRPG. There are other few examples but only a handful probably. A good description of DQXI would be like playing the JRPG version of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy or Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. That's the kind of story you'll find in this game. At first it seems kinda overly simplistic and childish but the more you play the game keeps surprising you. I don't think the story is predictable at all. Spoiler section for those that played it or are interested: Halfway through the game the heroes literally lose the "final battle" and the party gets scattered again. The world was conquered by the villain and there are maps completely ravaged by his tyranny. Each party member lose their hope in their own way and when you find them again you have to spark that fire again. After you play the second half of the game and beat the villain, the game appears to be in it's final moments, but then there's an entire last chapter dedicated to time traveling (because of some stuff that happened during the fight against the villain) and this time another, much bigger villain, of cosmic proportions shows up (and it's hinted throughout the entire game). Honestly, I never understood what people loved so much about DQ but after playing XI I can say I 100% get it. It manages to be simple, yet so charismatic and well written.
It does have a great story don't get me wrong. I just saw most of the twists as they come and it didn't leave me with much guessing. I do think it is by far the best dragon quest and I do recommend a play thru to anyone that loves RPG's. Thanks for the watch!
@@ogre27kain I edited my comment a bit, added a spoiler section. Did you really saw all of those twists in chapter 2 and 3 coming? I didn't see it coming at all, probably because it was my true first DQ game.

It has been good talking to you and its awesome to see another gamer who has enjoyed some of these classics and can make great comparisons. Thanks man!
