Any convict will tell you they'd much prefer to be in prison than in Sac. County Jail and I've been there myself (not as an inmate). And yes, I know he can't be sent there after sentencing, and they wanted to get the trial over with quickly for the sake of the victims' families.

He was a fit, active 74 year old who constantly worked in his yard, had retired from his truck mechanic job just a few weeks before his arrest and the day before was driving his motorcycle over 100 mph down the freeway. I've been incarcerated and I can assure you life in prison is far worse than the death penalty. Try living in a bathroom for the rest of your life with the bare necessities and 3 1000 calorie meals a day and then you have to explain yourself to god.

Families who have been directly impacted by their loved ones having been the victim of a capital crime should be allowed to not pay a certain amount of tax as a way of their hard work not going towards the maintenance and support of the criminal that murdered their family member(s).
