Fasting is a form of the punishment forcing to submit. Sunni (Farsi word: سلطنتی or سلطانی) means royal lineage or monarchy. Hashem is a title in Farsi حاکم, it means the ruler or governor for a particular time and place. Hashemite is (حاکمان) the collection of the governors. The assassination of prophet Mohammad and the massacre of Karbala which was planned and executed by the Hashem of that time Yazid (same as Yazidis) made them the landlord of Kaaba in Mecca, it was owned by prophet Mohammad and his brothers. Shia شاهد witnesses [of assassination of the prophet and the Karbala massacre] was born. The current Hashem can be seen in TH-cam video "Documentary on the two holy mosques" at 1:52 time stamped.
@ To be fair the Muslims are not exactly fasting during Ramadan. Sure they skip lunch, but they feast while the sun is down & this can lead to many health problems. Many Muslims just sleep during the day & stay up all night gorging themselves. This is why food prices go right up around Ramadan, demand is so high. Moderation of food consumption is important.
@ that's a very narrow of not ignorant opinion. first off, islam comes from the root word slm...which the word submit is derived from. submit and surrender to the one God. its hike acceptance not in a negative way you seem to phrase it. secondly, how can it be a punishment when there are so many exceptions like pregnancy, sickness, travel...etc and all one has to do is give breakfast or money instead of fasting. to further prove that point, 23:62 We never require of any soul more than what it can afford. And with Us is a record which speaks the truth. None will be wronged. further more, 2:256 Let there be no compulsion in religion.....As in free will, free to fast or not to fast. and no set punishment for those who do not fast. lastly, proof in in the pudding...millions of muslims fast and do not regard or feel it as punishment. on the contrary we feel it's a blessing

Some additional points about Eid al Fitr: it is a day of celebrations, to celebrate the triumph of full month of fasting, worshipping God, and conquering your nafs. It is the day where Muslims are absolved of our sins after a month of fasting, the day where we return to 'fitrah' or the natural state of creations, free of sins. Fasting is forbidden/haram on Eid al Fitr and the Prophet himself instructed us to be happy on this day, by praising God (takbir), wearing perfumes, our best clothes and saying congratulatory wishes to our Muslim community
Thanks for your comment. Its weird he didn't mention this, as it seems kind of important. Would you say that Eid Al Fitr is the culmination of Ramadan? or putting it another way, would you say that Ramadan is a preparation for Eid al Fitr?
Its an annual reminder to be patient, to be grateful for smallest of blessings, to regain empathy towards other human beings, restoration of faith in humanity. But for me, the best part is experiencing how my desires shrink. Hunger, need to dominate, need to argue, need to party and own fancy things, all slips away with in a week of fasting and the impact lasts for months.
It's a small detail but thank you for translating "nafs" as "self/ego" and not "soul". This is an extremely common mistake in translation, but there is actually a difference in Islamic terminology between the lower or worldly self which is what makes up our base physical desires as well as usually being the source of selfishness and self-preservation, and this part of us is mortal and dies when our physical body dies. Meanwhile the soul or "rūh" is kind of our higher spiritual essence that is actually immortal and will never perish, since after our physical self dies we have consciousness both in the grave and in the eternal Afterlife, be it Heaven or Hell. The soul is where our higher sense of awareness, intellect, morality, faith, etc. is from. If you're familiar familiar Freudian terminology you could compare the nafs/self to the id and the rūh/soul to the supego. In the Koran if you're reading it in Arabic you'll notice the word nafs is almost always used in a negative light.
I prefer to use the world self for nafs in my conversations but I will add that it contains more than what an English speaker will understand from the world self. Tbh, the world self-ego is the best one that fits here.
That is not totally true.. there are many types of al Nafs in Islam. 3 Types in Quran, 5 Types in some branches of Al Sufi Islam. They could be negative or positive. Your description of al nafs is more like the description which is used in some Arabic dialects.
Ruh is better translate with Spirit, since it is the Divine blow, the highest essence of the human being, the Divine image in which we are created. While our soul, or nafs, can be trained toward unity with the Divine ruh, if left unchecked may plumber to incarnate our lower beastly nature.

Your explanations of the spiritual reasons for the Ramadan fast align beautifully with our Buddhist precepts and practices. It is feeding and building 😢the ego-self that brings us down and encourages delusion. Thank you!
@@anneeq008 one could say that building an ego is seeing ourselves as the center of the world. It also tends to deny our mortality, that is, impermanence. Thanks for another great video! and Ramadaan Kareem! I am one of those who can't fast due to illness and I've been feeling left out. But your video reminded me that Ramadan is more than just fasting with your stomach so thanks for that! Very much appreciated :) I hope you have Muslim friends you can celebrate with. I'm from Cape Town and we have a tradition of including all our non- Muslim friends and family in our dinners or eid celebrations- making special food baskets for friends at school, etc. It's always good fun when one of our non- Muslim friends tries to fast; they're usually hungry and full of complaints within 3 hours LMAO
Try to avoid overeating, so much food is eaten during Ramadan that overeating is a serious problem. Many Muslims just stay up all night feasting & sleep during the day, so try to maintain balance or you will put on a lot of weight.
Remember try not to overeat during Ramadan. So many Muslims suffer health effects from eating way too much food as if they can afford it it is daily feasting, with a break during the day. If you are one of the many Muslims that sleep during the day, it is just a huge feast all night. Not a healthy practise.
I’ve fasted 24 hours a week for 20 plus years and do it for both health as well as spiritual reasons, but the main reason I do it is to develop spiritual or “inner” freedom. Think of the spirit as more or less equivalent to the will as opposed to mind and body. Just as you need to exercise both the body and the mind to keep them strong and healthy, so must you exercise the will for the same reason. Fasting is one of the best ways to do this, since hunger is one of the most constant and powerful of our desires. I definitely do not fast because I think pleasure is bad. Indeed, food tastes the best after my fasts. Eating compulsively is one of the best ways to destroy the pleasure and goodness of eating.
As a muslim I say hats off Pastor. You summed the essence of fasting up so beautifully. There are of course additional reasons/benefits but this hit the nail on the head for me. Cheers
Great video as always. One minor detail correction, the lunar calendar month can be 29 or 30 days, and this is why there's always global debates on the start of Ramadan. There's the calculated appearance of the new moon to start the month, but also it's sometimes harder for countries to see the new moon when it's born, so they go to the next day.
I like the idea that you can follow the time that the sun rises and sets in Mecca, if you live too far north. Creates a sense of solidarity with Muslims thousands of miles away.
Except that's not the established scholarly tradition. That is determined on LOCAL sunrises, moon sightings etc. Those in the extreme parts should follow those geographically closest
@@chendaforest Not only geography but also cosmology and seasonal changes. As prayer times change and direction of prayer changes as you move on earth. As a Muslim I always know where north is for example by looking at shadows. It is a great sense of connection to the immediate environment and the greater cosmos. Atleast 5times a day. Excellent way to tune out, worship, relax and practise contemplation and gratitude.
I am a Hindu and I have read the Quran and the Bible. The concept of soul in all the three religions as contained in the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads , the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible are strikingly similar as described in the book 'One God Many Names' with sub title 'We are Children of One God'. In this context fasting to purify the soul is important. This is the very purpose of Ramadan fasting. Fasting is said to inculcate a sense of fraternity and solidarity with the needy and the hungry and a sign of obedience to God.It serves the purpose of cleansing the inner soul. The same concept is found in Hinduism and Christianity.

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:185)
@Amine Balaska welcome always brother! Well let me quote you, most poetic verse of Quran (in my opinion), "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things." 😊(Surah nur , 35) Asselam alaykum warahmatullai wabarakatuhu , May Allah bless you! ♥️ Ramadan Mubarak
Muslims just need to be careful not to eat too much food during Ramadan. Daily feasting during the dark hours is a standard practise for Muslims who can afford it. Try to remember to eat in moderation as a whole month of daily feasting is not a healthy practise & leads to many health problems. Moderation is key.

185 (It was) the month of Ramadan in which the Recital was sent down as guidance for mankind, and as evident explanations of the guidance and the criterion. So whoever of you witnesses the month, then he shall fast it. But whoever is sick or on a journey, then (he must fast) a period of other days. Allah wants ease for you and does not want hardship for you, and that you should complete the period, and that you should glorify Allah for having guided you, and so that you may give thanks.[ Surah : Al-Baqarah ]
Great video as always. Fasting is very important for the Soul - eating weighs us down making it difficult to focus on the highest ideals. It is necessary for survival and being able to control such basic instincts requires strength and determination. Such discipline especially when paired with the intention of choosing God over such desires is extremely powerful. God bless you and everyone watching, and of course Ramadan Mubarak to everyone fasting 🙏🏼
Thank you. You touched on the most important and relevant points, as always. There is one more, which is considered by many learned scholars as a hidden treasure. According to hadith, Allah rewards believers upto 700 times for their good deeds, except for fasting. According to a hadith qudsi, Allah says: "Fasting is Mine and it is I who give reward for it."
Also worth mentioning the Greek Orthodox lent which is almost 50 days of fasting, abstaining from anything that comes from animal ( eggs , dairy and meat obviously) besides the lent for Easter there is also another 150 days of lent spread throughout the whole year.. thank you for your interesting videos❤️
@@dostpektas9761 sure np. Grew up in the romanian orthodox church and it's customs are very similar to greek's and Russian's.
Ramadan Mubarak everyone. May Allah subhannahu wa ta ala make us from among the muttaqin and bless our fasts with intimacy with His presence.
Amen

Ramadan Mubarak everyone, the best month of the year.
ramaḍān kareem / رمضان كريم all. May the Spirit of Ramadan stay in our hearts and illuminate our souls from within. 🌙
Ramadan Kareem my friend
@@mustafarasool887 and to you as well my friend. 🙏
Try to avoid overeating, so much food is eaten during Ramadan that overeating is a serious problem. Many Muslims just stay up all night feasting & sleep during the day, so try to maintain balance or you will put on a lot of weight.
@@Dorakuwel that is indeed sound advice my friend thank you.
Ramadan Mubarak to everyone day one already done … it’s amazing how the brain clicks into Ramadan mode and everything becomes doable ❤️
Ramadan Mubarak to all!
Remember try not to overeat during Ramadan. So many Muslims suffer health effects from eating way too much food as if they can afford it it is daily feasting, with a break during the day. If you are one of the many Muslims that sleep during the day, it is just a huge feast all night. Not a healthy practise.
May Allah reward you with hidayah for spreading awarness about Islam.
Ameen.... Jazakallah.
Hope you all have a blessed Ramadan, from a U.K. Buddhist 🙏🏽😊
Love you brother from Kashmir, India 🇮🇳❤❤❤
2023 Ramadan in India will start on 24th March 2023 probably...🥰😊☺
Peace out 💖
I’ve fasted 24 hours a week for 20 plus years and do it for both health as well as spiritual reasons, but the main reason I do it is to develop spiritual or “inner” freedom.
That comes down to 3.5 hours a day.....
@@bbbbbbb51 He means that he fast 1 full day every week.

As a muslim I say hats off Pastor. You summed the essence of fasting up so beautifully. There are of course additional reasons/benefits but this hit the nail on the head for me. Cheers
Thank you brother for this speech.
Allah Subhan Watallah Give us guidance and make us able to make prayers more and more, and to collect lot of good deeds.
Ramzan Mubarak To All
glad you made this ❤️
Thank you so much for the explanation, I was aware of the event but ignorant of the depth and intentions involved .
Thankyou so much for the lovely video and beautiful wishes. May we all be showered by Allah's blessings, ameen.
Thanks for the nice content you always produce
I have joined the Ramadan fast in solidarity with Palestinians.
Just so you know, millions of Muslims around the world are one in heart withi you during this month
Ramadan kareem to you sister
Peace to you sister.
Ramadan Kareem sis!
May Allah bless your soul with peace❤
Thank you very much for reminding me. I knew it was coming up.
Ramadan Mubarak my brother, I pray to Allah that one day you also will be a Muslim and we’ll be fasting and praying together 🤲🏽💚
Great video once again, keep it up!
Thank you. I like this concept of dedicating one whole month to get closer to god.
شكرا جدا على المعلومات التي طرحتها بطريقة جميلة رمضان مبارك علينا جميعا، أحب فيديوهاتك كثيرا شكرا لك
Again thank you for your work. Always following you since day one !
Ramadan kareem to all my muslims ♥️ may god help us through this holy month.
I like the idea that you can follow the time that the sun rises and sets in Mecca, if you live too far north. Creates a sense of solidarity with Muslims thousands of miles away.
How Ramazsn is celebrated across the globe 👇
th-cam.com/video/_sY6CjrgK4c/w-d-xo.html
Also reduces time to fast in the far north /south where sunsets at 11pm+ sometimes.
Except that's not the established scholarly tradition. That is determined on LOCAL sunrises, moon sightings etc. Those in the extreme parts should follow those geographically closest
I suppose it just shows how geography influences religious practice.
Thanks a lot for this!! Just one minor thing: while most Sunnis fast from dawn to sunset, for Shias it’s from dawn to dusk. Ramadan Mubarak!
I love the Hindu religion its so simple yet answers a very complex topic either such beauty
Quran doesn't say we are children of God... Please correct your knowledge
Ramadan Kareem 🌙
This was a very good presentation of Ramadan and thank you for sharing.
Ramadan Mubarak to my Islamic Friends. I am Catholic so lent for me. Time for sacrifice and introspection. Make peace
Thank you. Peace
Thank you!
Thank you
Peace!
Ramadan Mubarak to you too and all the Muslims around the world
This is such a beautiful practice
Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard (to distinguish between right and wrong)....{contd}.
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:185)
@Amine Balaska welcome always brother!
Well let me quote you, most poetic verse of Quran (in my opinion),
"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things." 😊(Surah nur , 35)
Asselam alaykum warahmatullai wabarakatuhu , May Allah bless you!
@@Dorakuwel Thanks so much for your care dear brother 😊! Allah bless you!
You have the best religion channel on TH-cam. No matter if its Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, Sikhism, or anything else you always knock it out of the park with your inciteful commentary.
While fasting Ramdan you can feel that everything around you worth it and thanks god for desires
Thank you for this video, and all of your videos!
As a muslim i slute you and pray for you from Allah who give you this job to explore and explain islam.
Holy hell i got here early, cherry 🤘🏽🤘🏽Thank You for the killer content Mr. Filip
Thank you! I recently made a new friend in Iraq that is celebrating Ramadan and I wanted to learn more about it.
Thank You. Ramadan Mubarak!
Ramadan Muburak everyone. Thanks for making this video today.
One of the best introductions and explanations about Ramadan!
Thank you for the information of Ramadan. Very informative.
Thank you for helping me understand my friends better.
As a non-Muslim, my favorite part of Ramadhan is the all the amazing food for open fasting, particularly here in Southeast Asia.
This channel is gem
thank you for this video on the deep meaning of the month of Ramadan.
Aren’t you a witch? Stop trying to disguise and blend in when all you’re doing is exposing yourself😂🤡
Do fish count as an animal product?
@@dostpektas9761 in some days fish is allowed. Permittence comes from the church on declared days throughout the year.
Thank you for answering
@@dostpektas9761 anything with blood
@@dostpektas9761 sure np. Grew up in the romanian orthodox church and it's customs are very similar to greek's and Russian's.
Pious Christians usually fast every Wednesday and Friday and of course including thr biggest yearly fasting periods before a major holy day so the church has chosen a few days that usually overlap with Wednesday and Friday to declare absolution from the fasting rule when it comes to fish. Fish is a symbol associated with Jesus Christ as he's mentioned in the Bible numerous times eating it thus it's consider a custom to bring the Christian closer to Christ by respecting all these customs.
Happy Ramadan, everyone.
@ApologistTruthSeeker Metric Ton or Short Ton or Long Tonne? Most welcome. Better yet, go work on a Pig farm. Closely related na. 🤣
Thank you for the video and your kind wishes.

Salam alaykum sending peace and blessings from Mexico 🇲🇽
At the time of ramzan and navratre both intertwining I was hoping you could cover navratre and navami as it would be interesting to hear a non hindu perspective on our practices, Love your content from India
Matlab yahan bhi aa gaye inferiority complex and insecurity lekar?
When will the obsession of you guys with islam stop?
Jaao jaakar dekh lo na kya nanga naach machaya hua hai so called “Ram Navami” ke naam par.
Vulgar songs, provocative sloganeering, brandishing weapons in front of mosques, deliberately taunting Muslims as some form of devotion to this ram guy…. We don’t see any other religion using its own religious festivals to harass people of other religions who are minding their own business.
Stupid dharma!
Thank you Flip.
Ramadhan kareem...
Thanks for the dedicatory during this month, many times we fast and make mistakes during the fast, such as the ones mentioned by ibn 'arabi or Al Ghazali, it's nice to be reminded of te meaning of our month with a humble opinion like yours.
May Allah bless you.
Ps. Your outro in tis vid is nice, is it from somewhere specific or where can i listen to it?

Thank you for this video. I just learned something new
I left Islam about 6 months ago but I still enjoy celebrating Ramadan with my family.
Great video, thank you
Big Fan of your channel Thank you kindly for your joyful efforts & wonderful content.
I’m really interested in Angels!
Would you consider dedicating a whole video to the topic of Angels in Islam?
I read about it in brief and it’s mentioned in this video that the religious practices in Islam are inspired by the behaviour of Angels? That’s really unique and interesting and I’d love to learn more about that relationship between angels and the faithful as exemplars.
May you have a happy & healthy day.

As a Muslim I ADORE fasting in ramadan. During the month I never feel so happy and sinless. One of the best feelings is breaking your fast with cold water. It's especially delicious but i usually eat about 1 plate and not more 🤣
Thanks for this video!!!

He said once that her wife is Iraqi , maybe that's the reason . And he is an academic person after all . Ramadan Mubarak to u and all 😁
He also well pronounced Sanskrit words in videos related to Vedas. But he told in one of his videos he tried to learn some Arabic to read books in Arabic but he can't speak.
