I was in tears as I watched this video. I was born and raised in the Philippines, specifically in Manila. I am now a Canadian citizen. As I was growing up in the Philippines I was made to believe that Jolo was a no man’s land and should never be visited by tourists. Kulas, your video changed everything I understood about the place. I am proud to now know that Jolo is a land of friendly and welcoming people. The place definitely looks awesome. This video meant so much to me. Thank you Kulas.

Dont be confused Kulas between Tausug and Sama(Samal), these two ethnolinguistic tribes only differs in language but they share the same culture and tradition. They wore the same traditional dress, they both dance pangalay(although sama call it "igal"), they have same foods(like tiyula itum, bangbang sug, etc). They are like brothers, wherever there are tausugs there are also Sama, intermarriage is also prevalent between the two groups. Yakan is slighty different, but they have great cultural influence from sulu. Collectively, these groups under Sulu sultanate can be called as "Bangsa Sug" .

Sir kulas. I really appreciate these vlogs of Jolo, Sulu. Im a Tourism Mgt graduate myself and have been a Tourism college instructor in Cebu teaching different cultures and even immersing ourselves to it through field trips but never in this part of the country. I get excited watching you enjoy your time with them as i always wanted to learn more about their culture personally but never got a chance to do it because of the negative impressions installed in our minds before by the mainstream news media (no vloggers yet during that time) and Im already living abroad now. In the near future when im going on a vacation to the Philippines, i hope that i can get a chance to experience the Tausug culture also. I already have Maranao friends there but no Tausugs yet. Im pretty sure ill be like a little child again enjoying if ever i will be welcomed by the Good Tausug People especially in this part of the country someday.
my favorite muslim tradition and cultural is their arts, dance and music.
*i hope that Tourism will bring more and more visitors and investments to this area.
    Inshallah...
And As-salamualaikum to the Muslim Community! ❤

Yes there are a lot of similar words between tausug and cebuano:
I'll give you some example tausug-cebuano-english translation
      1. Tug - tug/tulog - sleep
      2. Sud - Sud/Sulod - Enter
      3. Kayo - Kayo/Kalayo - Fire
      4. Sug - Sug - Current
      5. Lungag - Lungag - Hole
      6. bay - Bay - House
      7. Ngan - Ngan/ngalan - name
      8. Dum - Dum/dulom - dark
      and many more to mention,
even the name of place is pretty similar
      1. SUG(sulu) - tausug use "SUG" or "Lupah Sug" to pertain to SULU. It was spanish who gave the name "SULU" .
      2. SUGBU(cebu) - same to cebu, it was once SUGBU but spanish gave the name "CEBU".
Give me some thoughts that maybe cebu and sulu where once connected.

14:22 Notice the sheer similarity of pretty much all Filipino dances in that they focus on hand movements, with minimal foot movements. All of them. From Cordilleran dances to Manobo dances to Moro dances. Something shared with other Southeast Asian and even Pacific Islander cultures (like the Hawaiian Hula). It actually is because of an ancient common ancestry.
