It's been crazy over here with the resident Orcas attacking boats from the Bay of Biscay down to the Straight of Gibraltor. After all of our great experiences with Orcas in BC and Alaska it's so odd to feel like we need to run away or go far out of our way to avoid them. But it is a real issue as a number of boats were hit and disable in waters we had passed through before or after the incidents. Good thing is that there is good tracking of the attacks online so one knows when to avoid specific areas but then it's a tough decision as one often needs to spend days going out of ones way just to avoid a potential incident. We tend to err on the side of caution but we still run the gauntlet rather than stay as close as recommended to shore. Oh well, it's the challenges that make this so much fun! Great to have you along! We're very much used to big pods of big Orcas around the boat back home so it's just so weird to feel afraid when you see them. They're easily the smartest creatures we've come across and very curious. We've often had a big bull do a swim by and roll its head at the stern to check us out. So far we've always passed muster. Absolutely the most magical encounters we've had. Still not sure why people care about. That said, we did haul ass when we saw that pod! Welcome aboard as new subscribers.
