Personally, I like the initiative and the video format. You should keep making them. Suggestions: Make a tier list of: 1. Generic Units 2. Subfaction specific unique heroes 3. Large models 4. Subfactions - primarily because from the video I got an impression that Vyrkos is something I shouldn't lean towards, but in my experience is the most versatile of the subfactions as your unique heroes can get artifacts and command traits. These are just some of the things you can work on. Keep at it!
Thank you for the great feedback. I agree with you that Vyrkos has a lot of versatility (helps when GW is obsessed with named Vyrkos heroes 😂) and a decent win rate right now. I was just hesitant to endorse it too much for new players simply on the sheer number of models it usually takes to purchase and paint compared to other bloodlines. I am working on a video where I break down the subfactions in more detail and talk about some starter lists. 😁👍
As someone about to start up a soulblight collection, this really helped me set the correct expectations, and helped me make purchase priorities, so thank you
Thank you for the comment. Be aware that this guide is outdated as we are now in fourth edition. I still think the purchase boxes are good info but the way the army building works is different now. I have an updated guide if you’re interested.
thanks for this video dude! Found a local group to play with and am currently 3d printing some proxies to test out before I pull the trigger on official kits! Honestly, the Bloodknights themselves were enough to make we want to start collecting!
Excited for you to join the undead ranks! Keep in mind this video was done for 3rd edition. We are now in 4th edition. I have an updated guide if you're interested.
I’m so new to minis and age of sigmar. Supper helpful as I. Am attracted to all the undead goodness :) Would love to see more on each faction deep dive
Welcome to the hobby! Funny you should mention that, I will be releasing a series of videos about the individual bloodlines. The first one is on legion of blood and I should have it done in the next few days 😄
I'm new to Sigmar so this was very helpful for me. I would love to see more videos like this from you. This is one of the better army guides I've found and it's easily the best Soulblight one I've seen.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad the guide was helpful for you. I appreciate the positive feedback, and I'll definitely work on more videos like that. If you have any specific topics you'd like to see, feel free to let me know. Happy gaming!
Great Video. Vampire Counts were my favourite army back in Warhammer Fantasy, and Soulblight Gravelords are great Hiers to them… I just can’t stand that they didn’t bring back Vlad Von Carstein 🧛🏻♂️ So, when the next video for an other Army?
i would love to see a quick video on a good starter 2k army that doesnt have too much to remember for beginners. all of my friends only really want to do 2k
@@nopaintnogains948 very helpful thank you. Also curious if you run any type of discord or anything where I can find more info. I’m brand new to all of this. Thank you
No discord (yet). If you let me know what content/questions you have I can make a video to help. It might also help others with similar questions in the future. This content format is new to me as most of my videos are about model painting 😁
I would love to do other armies but unfortunately I mostly play Soulblight. It would not feel right to comment on something I do not have enough experience playing.
Oh man I totally forgot about him! 😆 that’s another great addition, especially if someone manages to snag the old start collecting box to support the Grave Guard. Good catch!
For Deathly Invocation, can you heal Wight Kings by 3 wounds each turn and can they use the ability on themselves? They are summonable after all. That would almost make the mounted ones unkillable, especially in Vyrkos with the Phylactery. 7 wounds, 3+ save, 5+ ward, heal 3 wounds every SBGL Hero phase.
I wish I had seen this video before i started my collection...I have a ton of models for age of sigmar and now realize I either will have some sitting on the shelf collecting dust or I am gonna have to purchase more models to flesh out other armies
Vengorian lord is not keyword locked sure but it has abilities that only work with units you’d only ever run in Avengorii. I’d never run a vengorian lord outside of Avengorii. Lauka Vai, the named variant, however is a very self sufficient and effective hero monster priced at the same 300 points
You bring up some good points. I agree with you that Vargheist are currently in a weird spot and definitely need to be looked at and reworked to fit a specific role. I do however feel as though the Veng Lord is a strong piece even outside of Avengorii. Monster, wizard, with rend reduction, the hunger and not keyworded is a big thing. For someone who is brand new and looking to learn the box offers a lot of pieces with different game components at a reasonable price. I find Lauka Vai to be fantastic in LoN but I would rather take the regular Vengo in any other bloodline. The beauty of this game is that we can have our opinions and still be correct since our experiences are all shaped by our local meta 😁 love the detailed comment! Keep ‘em coming!
@er4din903 A tourney list for Kastellai Dynasty uses a Vengorian Lord with Undead Blademaster and Fragment of the Keep to get the Kastellai buff when another model receives one, and then has 2 "if in engagement range of this model" auras/debuffs to lower Rend of attacks by enemies by 1, and -1 on Wound rolls against your army. His heal a monster to full is considered extraneous and he is still good enough to take in other chapters, although Kastellai is the 2nd best use Ive seen to Avengorii
My issue with the current start collecting box are the Vargheists. They’re that weird kind of in between unit that can’t decide what it’s role is. They’re too expensive for chaff / trash objective grabbing mobs, those are fell bats, and they’re not as strong / durable as a unit of blood knights would be in kastelai. All in all they just don’t have a clear role on the roster meaning that they’d be the first unit I’d cut to fit something else
Hi i'm having a hard time with the hunger ability of the blood Knights for example. So if they attack a unit and do some damage and then the enemy unit attacks back, do the knights heal the wounds they got from the enemy unit or do they have to attack last to heal their wounds?
Just an example of a real use situation: 1. Good: Prince Vhordrai gets a spell cast at him and takes 3 wounds, then he gets charged and loses 8 wounds when that enemy activates. Then later Vhordrai attacks that squad, he deals 9 wounds, thus he will gain 6 Wounds (the cap for The Hunger) putting him back to full. 2) Bad: Vhordrai cast his spell for First Strike on his turn. Then takes 3W from spell, and gets charged. He attacks due to Fights First, dealing 9W, he will heal 3W from The Hunger (cant exceed max HP), then loses 8W on the activation. Now instead he is down 8W
I just want to be able to play skeletons with some vampires and learn the game better. I played FEC before the new stuff came out in the end of AoS 2, they were fun but it was so alpha strikey I was either mopping up or getting mopped fast, which wasn’t really conducive to me learning and getting better at the game overall, and find an army I can stick with. Soulblight allows me to make my Barrow Kingdom and not get alpha striked so hard. I’m also broke overall and just want to play and not get crushed all the time because my list sucks. I’m hoping this video can help me out with my skeleton dream! Currently I have the new Soulblight starter with Black Knights, Mounted Wight King and 20 Grave Guard but I also have a necromancer, 2 boxes of skeletons and a remaining old box of FEC to make a VLoZD, but I’m aiming to at least get some more Black Knights and a foot slogging Wight King as well as a Vampire Lord on foot! I’m sad Vargheists suck though, I like their looks more than crypt flayers, and their old lore is really cool too.
I’m not sure if this video will be too helpful in your skeletal dream as it’s more of an overview. I will be releasing a couple more videos where I focus more on the specific bloodlines and will make sure to include my take on a full skeletal army just for you and others like you 😀
Hey, that was great thank you! I'm a brand new AOS player and I went soulblight specifically because VCs are my favorite faction in Total War Warhammer 3. Did next to no research, bought the Vengorian Court box, an extra unit of blood knights because they are just cool looking lol, varghiest, a vampire lord, and Cado Ezechair so this was great to help clear some things up and figure out where to go from here. My only question that I'm sure I could answer by just reading the rules again but blizzard and hoarfrost what are those like generic spells available to any faction or what? Also how do you determine how many artifacts and spells your heros get and some heros have specific spells plus the extra ones or could you just clear that up for me?
Hey, thank you for the great feedback. To answer your questions: 1. Hoarfrost and Blizzard are spells available to hero wizards with wound characteristics of 9 or less and not mounted. These spells are part of the generals handbook and will rotate out when a new generals handbook is released. 2. You get one artifact to give to a hero that is not a named hero. You can get an additional artifact if you select and meet the requirements for a Command Entourage battalion 3. Regularly hero wizards can know 1 spell of your choice from their army spell list in addition to the spell on their profile. The number of spells they can cast is outlined in their profile. You can use a Command Entourage battalion to have your wizards learn (not cast) an additional spell. Hope this helps. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.
My biggest issue with the vanguard box (right now) is that blood knights aren’t amazing, partially because of their warscroll and partially because of how weak Kastelai is. I also don’t love Vargheists. They’re great models and look amazing with a decent paint job, but they cost a lot of points and fall over to a stiff breeze.
I agree. Blood Knights have the potential to be amazing but fall short with their current rules. The recent points drop is a step in the right direction. I think giving them back their pseudo retreat and charge to maximize their damage or possibly even make them viable to fight in two ranks like Chaos Knights would make them more appealing. Especially when current Soulblight rules lean so heavily on supporting summonable units.
@@nopaintnogains948 yeah I do like the points drops. And don’t get me wrong, I love Kastelai and I run blood knights in my Kastelai lists even though I think Askurgan Trueblades are just better. For how much they cost out the gate, I don’t think they should’ve changed their old rule as much as they did. While Kastelai wasn’t the best way to play the old book, it was at least viable to take 20 blood knights back then
This is just what I needed to make a decision to start an AOS army, definitely getting the soulblight gravelords! One question.. what do you think about the new BattleForce box? Is it worth it to start an army?
Thank you for checking out the video. Means a whole lot knowing it’s helping people out. The new battle force box is a pretty good deal. A lot of places will also sell it for a 15% or so discount so check with your local game store before ordering from GW directly. Also, I would recommend building the Vengorian Lord as Lauka’Vai - that way you have the option to run the named character or just tell your opponent that it’s a generic Veng Lord (most people don’t care as long as you clarify at the start of game).
The key words is preference here. You cannot shame people for there preferences. Being fat says something about your life habits and your health and this turn away a lot of people.
