Jon, Two take aways from his video for me. First, taking advantage of every little space to add storage. I was very impressed with the drawers built into the drum sander stand. Secondly, hearing YOU say that you needed to get things organized made you even more of a hero to us mere mortals. As someone who has failing hearing, married to someone born with a major hearing loss, I am very sensitive about the issue of hearing protection. Your bad ear needs protection too, to keep it from getting worse. Please wear two ear plugs. I am halfway through building aTV cabinet based on your Touchstone plans. I have come to realize the need for an assembly table. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and skill in such a down to earth manner. Stay safe.

Awesome tour Jon! It’s crazy how much the shop has changed over the years. My dad is not a woodworker so he doesn’t get it, when it comes to a shop there is no end just forward improvements.

John, very envious of your organized and growing shop! Looking at your collection run near the jointer, it appears that the y fitting is backwards for the break out for the table saw. Air and material needs to flow backwards towards the dust collector. Loving the new format and having a camera man!

I use micro switches for my dust collection. The biggest benefit is I can’t accidentally leave a gate open and I no longer need a remote. Very happy with the system.
Me too after I wasted a bunch of money on a remote that ended up going through the washing machine. I used a 24VAC doorbell transformer to power an HVAC contactor and used magnetic burglar alarm switches at each blast gate. I don't think I spent $50 on parts. For the blast gates that have to be out of reach, under or behind the machines, I rigged up pull cable controls that are a simplified version of these th-cam.com/video/j4G3K7dLAjg/w-d-xo.html
Very nice video format. If you allow me to give my advise, ask you "cameras-son" to frame you on camera using the top third and left half of the screen when talking, and try to frame where your hands are instead of keeping your torso on the center when showing some details. I'm not a cameraman nor a video professional, but had some time hanging with some professional ones. Thank for the video.
WOW! I'm a little bit envious :). You've got an AWESOME shop space. I really like the way you've divided it into separate independent work areas. Perhaps it's the camera, but it looks more spacious inside, than it appears from the outside.

Boy, what memories this brings! I found Jon with the purchase of my first table saw, back then with only 50,000 subscribers. Nice shooting and post-production, Walter. One suggestion for Jon: Let's set you up with a bluetooth mike, assuming your camera can take the input. Assuming more videos with a camera crewman, you can turn away to gesture while maintaining smooth, understandable audio. Looking forward to another food show, like back in the day!
One thing I noticed on your dust collecting to the joiner and table saw is the sweep "T" connection flow is facing the wrong direction from the table saw.
Organization is foremost in your shop, it's obvious and it reflects a strong point in how you function. I liked hearing about your tool selections over the years. Would you see the benefit in a cordless miter saw for you personally? Do you have a router table?
Hello Jon, nice shop! I'm looking into moving my dust collector outside of my shop in a closet like yours, I'm curious if you have anyway to return your air to keep from loosing your heat or ac?
Thanks for the informative tour with lots of ideas! I've had the Rikon 10-351 bandsaw several years since it came out. I'm not sure I'd buy it again. It's expensive and I've never re-sawn like I thought I would to its capacity of 14.5" (though I've done 12" a few times). If you change blade widths much, the lower rear blade guide is a total headache to adjust. Lastly, the fence is really sticky--doesn't slide side-to-side well, and it's not sturdy at all for tall re-sawing. The pluses are it does have plenty of power, dust collection is really good and the foot brake is a worthy safety feature. Best, Andrew @BranchAndFoundry
Excellent use of space, Jon--how do you heat it? The first video of yours that I watched explained how to build trusses for a shed by setting up a simple form on the floor of the new shed. I watched that a few months after I built a shed in my yard on which no two trusses were the same :-) Thanks for the great videos through the years!

Nice to have a camera man now. :) Is your planer on a 3/4 plywood piece with 3/4 plywood rails to make it a tray and it handles fine? All it has to do is keep the wheels under it. Looks nice, clean, strong, and simple. Weird little things I notice.
Hi Jon, great tour. I retire in 12 months and my wife and I are building a new home that better suits our lifestyle. Woodworking has been a lifelong hobby and I look forward to diving in more fully in retirement. My workshop will be about 900sqft. I’m designing my dust collection and like your in floor system for some tools. I have Powermatic table-saw, planer, 6” jointer, 14” band saw, disk sander 3000 (?) dust collection, Dewalt miter saw, router table and a few others. Questions; do you like your plywood floor? Are you glad you put some of the dust collection under the floor? Any suggestions regarding that? Thanks!
Forget every other feature The kapex pays for itself on the job just for the ease of being able to swing it side to side for bevels. The rest is a bonus
I love seeing how the shop has transformed over the years but I think the question on most people's minds is, what are the door handles that you have on the shop!? What is the paddle like handle witch-craftery!? Haha! We NEED to know! :)

Nice shop, but calling it a "small" shop is misleading (title). That shop is not small. I guess if you compare it to April Wilkenson's, it's small, but I don't think anyone would call your shop small. Your finishing room is bigger than my shop (I wheel my tools into the driveway to use them, lol).
