Tour of Adam Savage's Shop (2014)

  • Somewhere in San Francisco is a hidden workshop of wonder. A place where iconic characters, creatures, and props from cult favorite movies are pulled from the screen into reality. Adam Savage's Cave is the Mythbusters host's personal sanctum, the place he goes not only to build his painstaking creations but where he displays a lifetime's collection of oddities, eclectic memorabilia, and film props. It's the well that's at once the source of Adam's inspiration and a reflection of his obsessions. And Tested.com is pleased to invite you in for an exclusive tour of Adam Savage's workshop.
    Plus, Adam's shop is now on Google Street View! See if you can find the secret location, through a sewer manhole cover somewhere in San Francisco...

    I love it. It’s a shop that someone uses. Not one of these garages that looks like a modern home that someone parks their Ferraris and not a lick of grease found in any of their tools or tool boxes.
    However, it’s is just chaos. I would get anxiety just being in there. But …..I bet you Adam knows exactly where everything is. That’s the crazy part.

    I found the Savage Cave online a few years ago when I was out of work and had a day to kill between job interviews. Took me a few hours and some hints from some of Adam's other videos. Out of respect I would never give out the address and I posted him on Facebook with suggested edits to those videos that assisted in pin pointing the location.

    • @maylaforcebewithu
      @maylaforcebewithu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm trying to find it just based on the window, door, garage door window layout and that it appears to be a south facing building. He also mentioned a neighbor, but that didn't lead to anything. To me, the building appears to be a larger building, something like a department store (ceiling height is at least 13 feet) and his unit looks like it may be 1/2 of the structures space (note the steel frame drywall partition and large steel trusses). I'm surprised that anyone found this quickly...I'm a pretty skilled Maps navigator and I have a few hours in this.

      Although, by placing the correct grammar, as in Adam's rather than Adams, we all know the cave belongs to Adam thus making it clear it's Adam's savage cave. So I think you and the Liam are being a bit dicky for being so picky about being shown how grammar can make things very clear. I also don't think he screwed the joke, because there's no capital letter on savage we know that he is meaning the adjective savage, not the last name Savage. So you see, Dick whoops I mean Dan?

    Oh come on, Adam. Stick a tube that says "ROCKET MOTOR" in the back of the ejection seat. Don't put a real motor of course, but you're a prop maker man.

    • @tylergarza6632
      @tylergarza6632 7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      except that isn't a prop. it's an actual ejector seat. there is a boundary between the two and its more authentic if you don't mix them.

      +Harry. B. Renner. Jr. ejection seats aren’t hard to get they’re just expensive. literally just go search ejection seat for sale, there are genuine companies based around selling furniture made of ejection seats and other plane parts

    The ejection seat makes me think of my great grandfather. He was a colonel, and when he retired he was given a rocking chair made out of an old ejection seat. Still probably the coolest thing I have ever sat in.

    , Adam, you are way beyond a talented man, very complicated and busy to say the least. Trying to keep up with you is by far a lost cause, I can't do it.
    that's a compliment by the way. One of my all time favorite things you've ever done was with Jamie on Mythbusters, the DUCT TAPE ISLAND episode.
    yes, believe it or not, that was so amazing to see you come up with chairs, chess and board.
    chicken catcher net, boat.
    the list goes on.
    you are the most amazing talented person I've ever known, although not personally, but I've watched every episode of mythbusters and TH-cam videos ever made of you.
    don't never grow up so to speak, and please never stop with your carreer.

    I'm so confused, how can anyone be this organized, have such attention to detail as he does, and not be as miserable as every other OCD person I know? He is the happiest guy ever, has that rare ability to learn constantly, where most of us reach a point where we begin to atrophy mentally, is the closest living parallel to Benjamin Franklin I know of.

    It's hard to get a full scope of the place. But it appears that he displays and stores all his prized possessions in the same vicinity that he builds things, sands things, and spray paints things. How does he keep his stuff clean? I have a hobbyist's garage. Everything in my place is covered in sawdust and paint overspray. Even the loft in my garage has a trap door at the top of the stairs. dust and crap still gets up there.

      I think he just doesn't really take care of his stuff. That Omega Seamaster he wears to do all his dirty work and heavy construction is at least 5 grand. He also has an official NASA jacket(looks like a tan contractor's jacket). He wears that to roll around in dirt.

    • @SirZeu
      @SirZeu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that could have work before but now that he as a metal working space its going to turn to dust city. welding makes a lot of smoke and that smoke is mostly very small particul that are going to get every where.
