Still one of the best platformers ever made.

Dark Souls is the Dark Castle of modern games.
Awesome. I've always loved the aesthetic of this game, though the difficulty was crazy. I think how hard it was contributed to the mystique it had for me as a kid. Please do Beyond Dark Castle as well.
this brings back so many memories, i actually beat this by going straight to the boss, no shield or the other thing, can't even remember... but i remember beating the boss without the other abilities and clearing each room before the gargoil comes in.
Well, this does look marginally less unplayable than the Genesis/Mega Drive port. Impressive playthrough.
So THATS why this game was so astronomically ass on console. It was supposed to be played with a mouse

They said "the port to the Genesis/mega drive will be easy! They use the same processor!" (the only differences are literally everything else)
How many remember that the knight armor on display at the main room of the castle changes into a christmas tree if you play the game on December 25th?

I used to curse incessantly playing this game.
It's nice to see someone play this game without constant swearing. Did the shield make you invincible?
It makes you invincible, but turns itself off after a few seconds. It also can't protect you from everything, such as the giant birds that drop you in the dungeon.

Of all the games they could have ported to the Genesis, why this one??? It may have been a perfectly good black and white Macintosh game in 1986 but the Genesis port came out in 1991 which was the same year Sonic the Hedgehog was released and this game would have been primitive by NES standards.
The Genesis used the same CPU as the classic macintoshes, so they thought they could make the port on the cheap. Unfortunately...
