    I ended up doing this to mine and glad I did. Use it all the time in the garden for drainage holes in pots, etc.

    Excellent video sir! Great job on the mods. I have the Sidekick and so far it has proven to be a nice addition to my gear.

    I made the same mod on my file/ruler on my Wingman, but I also added a small hole 1/2cm from the end, for any sewing needs.
    Awl, reamer, and sew needle - in one

    Not bad modifications at all. The Sidekick is hands down one of my favorite Leatherman tools.

    I'd love to see you take out all of the tools from a leathermen and replace them with your own stuff. I can see it now... "On this side I added a knife blade and another knife blade and a larger knife blade... On the other side I added three more knife blades with different grinds" "and I made a custom leather sheath. It holds the leathermen and has a compartment for lots of Band-Aids"

      Ray Ford I like that Ray. But you forgot one knife blade. LOL, Thanks!

      ReapersEXoticReps I still use a wave on a daily basis. The wave did not have the best tools for making an awl and a gouge.

    I just picked up a sander/grinder similar to yours, a 2x42 at a pawn shop. A Palmgren brand. Never heard of them but it is one of the few made in USA producers still in existence. Have not used it yet as I work this oddball shift but will be on it tomorrow.
    Also thanks for the ideas, I also have little use for a serrated blade, this might just be the ticket.

    • @wcknives
      @wcknives  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruce Prosser Use mine a lot especially with crooked knife handle carvings. Best modification I could have done. Love my grinder but wish it had a variable speed. This craftsman has one speed...fast.

    Good idea with the awl/reamer.
    I always convert the can opener on a Swiss Army knife to a gouge by grinding off the screw driver and sharpening. Still works as a can opener too.
    I like the serrated blade on the Sidekick for rough cutting. It saves my main blade.

  • @spankyjeffro5320
    @spankyjeffro5320 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought a Sidekick, loving it so far. But, I would definitely change the file and small blade for a chisel and an awl. :) Would pretty much be my perfect multitool then.
    Great video.

    I did a similar job on a Wingman - turned the package opener into an awl and the large flat screwdriver into a mini chisel.

      Good idea. I changed the large screwdriver on my Swiss Army Trekker into a chisel. Works great.

    Nice mods. I knew you was about to snap that tip! I thought about making the fixed flat head screw driver on my Wave into a reamer. It has the other driver bit so I don't think I'd miss it.

    • @wcknives
      @wcknives  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      briargoatkilla A reamer is very handy. I new curving the tip was a long shot but as I said in the video I had to try and a gouge is almost as good.

    Good mods. An awl is a must on a MT for me. Wish the Wave came with one instead of those toy scissors, thats why I aint bought one yet but when I do I'm gonna switch those two out.

    I have a Surge, that I wish came with a precision screw driver, instead of the medium flathead screwdriver... since I already have that with the bit kit.
    One day, if I get a hold of one, I'll swap it out... but until then, I took that medium flathead to a stone & made it into a chisel.
    That mod turned out to be far more useful than I thought it would. I might have 2nd thoughts on swapping it out.

    I guess it is stainless? Think i threw away my box- was gonna suggest heating to cherry red and letting the blade sit in dry sand overnight to soften, then re-harden after bend. But if it is stainless things might just turn crispy.

    That serrated blade is absolutely useless. I never would have thought to make a chisel out of it, though. Plus, gotta admire a man who happily voids the warranty!

    • @wcknives
      @wcknives  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffrey Elliott It was worth more to have a more useful tool than to keep the warranty of a almost useless tool. Appreciate the view and comment.

    • @subjectt.change6599
      @subjectt.change6599 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Collins Just to clarify, I wasn't being sarcastic about voiding the warranty. If they had thought about practicality instead of being gimmicky, they never would have put that blade there in the first place.

      @wcknives  9 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @KeillorChristopher

    How come no one can make a multi-tool that someone buys the player platform that they want and then they could get the blades that they wantoh, I know I would pay a little bit more if I could definitely get what I wanted in a multi-tool or some things in a multi-tool I don't use it's like buying a music album for just one song that you like on it and the rest of them are crap

    • @wcknives
      @wcknives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, would be a great option for Leatherman I think, Thanks!

    • @Heikki_Finland
      @Heikki_Finland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said. I want this too but i guess it's too much trouble because you can't put any tool to anywhere but there is very limited space in the handle. I'm considering to make my own modifications too but it may cancel the warranty, making me hesitate. Well it's good to think twice anyway.
