Ken and Buzz are the last of a generation of true shredders who aren't total nerds. Unearth is so criminally underrated. Every album gets more technical and they've never lost the ability to write songs that actually go somewhere. Masters of going from 100 to 0 to 100 again. I can't listen to them driving, I learned that the expensive way.
theonlyegg hahahaha can't listen to em driving. I fucking love it. Sorry to hear about the costly wreck friend. Totally agree that this band is fucking underrated!
Omfg that the most amazing comment regarding this band I have ever read. Scary accurate. “Criminally underrated”- so right. These two can shred with anyone and are so tight they look like marionettes playing these songs together, their mechanics are so in sync it’s just crazy. I feel bad for any metal fan who never got into them.
For me these guys are the modern Downing/Tipton or Murray/Smith. In sync and so great at complimenting one another. So underrated. I can't say enough good about them.
That would be Head and Munky from KoRn mate. Yes I know they're described as "nu-metal" but they're still metal. Dino Cazares from Fear Factory also had his 7 string metal revelation around the same time as they did.
They are the most magnificent duo ever in metalcore music, they get along so well in guitar playing, can't find a best duo. Maybe Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Maiden, but these guys really do a very good noise
You can't help but bop your head during that little bridge/breakdown riff before the solo and at the end of the song. It's such a simple rhythm, but it just works. It's hard to go wrong with chunky down picking and that slide from the 3-5 to 5-7 power chord. Especially with a groovy drum beat behind it. Starts with a slow groove beat, and then bring in the double bass to match the tempo. It's not technical, it's not fancy...but it GROOVES and just sounds good for this style of metal. I've written so many similar riffs like this because it just always has that epic feel to it when you give it the proper rhythm and get the groove going. Another song I can think of where one of the main riffs is just those same 5th chord slides is Colony from In Flames, and that's a classic.
Oh I love this! Both their playing skills and their axes (especially Susi's) are great. I haven't gotten into Unearth but from what I hear (the music itself) I definitely dig it. My only concern is the quality of the singer's voice and screams which I haven't heard before...Describe his singing to me?
RolanTHUNDER Gritty and raw like they come from a visceral place where a lot of rage and anger reside. Trevor’s vox are not terribly versatile in range especially in high screams. Mids screams/yells to somewhat low growls.
It’s like a traditional hardcore scream but also modernized, a bit of a hybrid. Yes, at times it can get a bit stale but his vocals match the the music for it is.
That’s where the metal core scene blew up was Boston. Most of those bands all came outta there. Shadows fall, unearth, killswitch, all that remains etc.
*thick boston accent with slight lisp* "when you listen to unearth and your driving...youre gonna get a speedin ticket" - some fat dude in an unearth DVD
I just want you guys to know that you changed the metal scene. I’m a drummer but I always paid attention to your guitar because it was so fuckin rad. It stood out. But the whole band is just fucking ridiculous. So different than anything else.
Not sure it gets any more tidy than that fellas gives me goose bumps every time outstanding 💪🏻👊🏼

Watchers of Rule was just so awesome. They're due for another album.

It's IMPOSSIBLE not to bang your head at 1:47

Ken and Buzz are both awesome Metal guitar players.
Absolutely great riffs. Very very underrated band and guitarists!
The originals! The progenitors of 7-string metal!
slipknotsk8ter89 Korn would like to have a word with you or Steve Vai
@@northtimo666 cough *Jeff Loomis* cough
metalheadblues Yeah but Korn and Steve Vai made 7-strings popular.
@@northtimo666 true. I play 7 string but I've never heard any via songs with the 7.
That would be Head and Munky from KoRn mate. Yes I know they're described as "nu-metal" but they're still metal. Dino Cazares from Fear Factory also had his 7 string metal revelation around the same time as they did.
These guys play such insane guitar harmonies together!!
Love UNEARTH 💚
Wow! These guys are so great together
Been following these guys since 2003. I love their riffage ness Buz is incredible as a guitar player. I’ve met him few times he is so kind.
They are the most magnificent duo ever in metalcore music, they get along so well in guitar playing, can't find a best duo. Maybe Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Maiden, but these guys really do a very good noise
Best guitar duo in metal...Period.
goldwrapper I'm assuming you haven't listened to Keith Merrow & Wes Hauch.
Much respect to them...I guess Unearth's style is the tie breaker for me...There's tons of others that are also in the conversation.
I wouldnt consider that a true duo since they havent been playing together for over 10 years
Ethan Bean what? Oncoming Storm came out in 2004 and they've release other albums before that. It's been well over 10 years lol
Peter Collier I was referring to Eddie's Guitars comment
Great song.
Unearth one of my favorite bands up there with Megadeth(first 4 albums)
Heavily underrated and glad I know of them
These guys are beasts
So fun to watch these guys play!
Only complaint that Buz was a little too quiet, but damn do I love these dudes.
literally my first thought 30 seconds into watching this.....good ear mate
I miss these guys
SOOOO pumped for their new album.
I’ve met ken before he showed a bunch of people fishman products at my music school he’s a really chill guy
Ken's solo is fn lit
Brilliant
That tone kills!!!!
Buzz’s tone is stellar 👍🏻
Legends in shredder! Some to mention but this guys are extraordinary

I can actually hear the bass in metalcore song!
wow, nice!!
I think this band is kinda genius. Instead of tuning down a 6 string they just tuned up a 7 string, and I like it!
You'd love All Shall Perish's earlish stuff.

2:12 Uhhh what the fuck did I just watch?? Dude is too good.
I didn't realize that they are from MA, Salute!
That’s where the metal core scene blew up was Boston. Most of those bands all came outta there. Shadows fall, unearth, killswitch, all that remains etc.
That's siccck

2:27 Sounds fucking amazing.
Still sounds amazing old me.
Those pick ups though. These guys are very tight.
fucken sick. Yeah The Boys!
I kind of liked buzzs sound more, what model fishman were in his?
fuck yeah!!!
this tone is so nuts. what's the kemper profile of?
I just want you guys to know that you changed the metal scene. I’m a drummer but I always paid attention to your guitar because it was so fuckin rad. It stood out. But the whole band is just fucking ridiculous. So different than anything else.
share the kemper profiles
I'm sure they won't do it ... :)
Thomann Music i know :)
THIS LIFE! SOON WI COME TO AN END! I'LL LEAVE WITH MY CONVICTIONS!
These guys are jason becker and marty friedman in modern era... True artsy shredder
What gauge do they use for Drop B on 7string?
Moin.
Erstmal..klasse Video und weltklasse Gitarristen!
Mal ne kleine Frage ans Thomann-Team...wisst ihr welches Plek Ken benutzt ?
Would love to know what profile that is.
Sounds like Trevor Phipps is screaming from a bathroom!
wtf lol
Tuning???
honestly I like how they sound without vocals at all. Maybe that`s just because I don`t like metalcore\hardcore types of vocals
Haha, that could have been my words ;-) Awesome riffs but the vocals suck (to me)
Got sick of soloing off. Lol
Either I’m deaf as hell or someone fucked up the mix. There is only one guitar sticking out, the other one is barely audible!
Ken can get a little sloppy l, stillamazing, but buz is a machine just flawless all the time!
That sounds like August Burns Red...
Yeah kind of. Both bands started around the same time. Unearth always had more of a thrashier sound.
