- Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers is one of rock music's most notable voices, and he's out with a new solo album, "Midnight Rose." For the first time, Rodgers talks with CBS News' Anthony Mason about his recovery from multiple strokes and the major surgery that made the record possible.

Thanks to his surgeon and his wife for keeping this treasure with us. Keep on keeping on Paul! 💖💖💖
Paul Rogers is my favorite rock vocalist. What an amazing journey he's given us.
The journey to. Narcissism extreme.,,,,,,,,,🤮
@@phantompanther648 Huh?!
Wholeheartedly agree!
How is Paul Rodgers not in the HOF? Better yet, how is Free or Bad Company not in the HOF? What a joke.
Because the rock and roll hall of fame is a pathetic joke!
One of the greatest lead voices of the rock era.
For sure in the top 10 all time...
@@stephenstone8480Rodgers is in the top “one” of all time, he pretty much invented the rock frontman’s role, singers such as Freddie Mercury, Lou Gramm and many others looked up to Rodgers, he inspired many who followed.
In my opinion, Billy Squire needs to be right up there with the BEST!
@@birdsfan57 Mr. Rock Me Tonite? Please, please tell me you're kidding...
@@stephenstone8480 Sad that his manager's insistance to have him do that video essentially ruined his career. I still believe he had one of the strongest, best rock voices of the 80's.
An inspiration to all who admire him. Best wishes to both!
The best voice ever. I’m a fan since 1972
Totally agree. First band I saw was Bad Company in ‘74. I loved Free and was down when they split but Paul with Mick, Simon and Boz kept rockin’ with Bad Co. He is just an amazing singer and so pleased he’s back and doing well. Very few if any lead vocalists from his era can still do it but The Voice has thankfully still got it.
My year of birth 1972!! Loved Free since I was 13
Thank GOD Paul is okay🙏 I'm a huge fan and I'm blessed to be able to say that I met him once and he is a Class Act always had a smile on his face
Same here, beautiful on and off the stage.
In the 90s I saw his solo act two nights in a row at Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, TX. One night was Muddy Water Blues, the next was all Jimi Hendrix covers. Both shows were standing room only, yet if you get in on time you get a table and a server, that place was fantastic. Since I wanted in early, we got in line well before the venue opened. Others caught on and soon the line was going around the block. Paul came out and walked down the line, shaking everyone's hands and saying "Thank you for being here". As you said, he's a true class act, and also as you said I've never seen him without a giant smile on his face.
@@tornadotj2059 I worked that Muddy Waters show in the 90s and Neil Sean was the lead guitarist. Amazing show
Paul Rodgers is the man! The dude. The legend. A truly gifted talent. A treasure. And sounding better than ever right now! I'm so glad to see him back doing what he does best. It was a good choice to keep it private and focus on his recovery without any distractions or intrusions from well meaning folks. He's married to a real special one, Cynthia, and his kids are just wonderful too! (They share dad's musical gifts as well) Much love to Paul and his family!
I love Paul Rogers , what a lovely wife he has
I've seen Bad Company 5 times. It is an absolute travesty that he isn’t in the Rock & Roll HOF.
Definitely..and I’m shocked 3 dog nights not in,they were huge
@@jamesmack3314just saw Three Dog Night on September 10th. Danny’s 81st birthday. They have slowed down a tad but still phenomenal. I just hope to be alive at 81.

Bad Company Is One Of The Greatest Bands Ever. Thank You Paul Rodgers. I'm Glad You Made It Through This. God Bless You.
So great to see in concert was Bad Company.
Paul is " The Voice " and has given so much to millions throughout the years during his music career
May he have many more happy years ahead of him. Thank you Paul for everything ❤💕
Amazing and truly remarkable that he’s still alive after THIRTEEN Strokes since 2016!!
Usually as singers get older they lose their range and power. Paul still has both. He may not sound as good as he did in his 20's but he still sounds really good.
I wonder does Paul know how much his singing means to people like me? He is, for me, one of a handful of singers who has been a treasure throughout my life, he's fantastic.
Precious soul, that Paul-
Healing comes on the wings of angels, and Paul's surrounded by Love and Peace. Best, Mate✌️❤
Phenomenal...Paul Rodgers has one of the most unique voices in our lifetime. I'm so glad to hear that he's able to sing again, with the help of the surgeon, his wife's and kids for engagement and love. Beautiful Man. ❤️❤️
Steve Walsh of Kansas told me in a 2002 interview that Paul Rogers is his favorite vocalist of all time.
Paul has one of the greatest voices out there , Bad Company forever!
One of the very best singers in rock!
I love the love between them, friendship , since of team! They are just awesome! Bring it on , music is a blessing❤. God bless you and your family.
Every time I go hiking the first thing I hear in my
head is ‘Walkin’ down that rocky road Wondering where my
life is leading’.
You’re a legend. Glad you’re back.
He didn't write that song. Mick Ralphs wrote that for Mott the Hoople and actually sang the song himself. He brought the song over to Bad Company and Paul Rodgers sang it
At a concert in mesquite Nevada, Paul and band played there, I walked up to the stage and he shook my hand. It was my birthday, best day ever.
Paul’s an amazing guy and singer who I had the pleasure of seeing a few years ago with the Paul Rogers Band. They were great and Paul was so grateful everyone came to see him thanking the audience many times times and wish him and family well!! ❤
I love Paul Rogers and what a kind couple!!
❤
Paul still looks like a young man, and what a wonderful wife he has!! Thank God you came through this without any problems.❤☮️❤️ Cool doctor too, listening to Bad Company while operating!!
I'm am so proud of you and everything you have done. Along with recovering from what could be a disaster for your family and fans. I have been a fan of yours for the 5 decades that you have been singing. You Paul Rodgers have amazing vocals and I'm so so happy that we all still have you around. We have lost so many musicians over the years and I so glad, that we still have you.
Along with being able to make an amazing solo album. You really are amazing , may God bless you and your family always!
GREAT VOCALIST!!!! Music isnt like that anymore. Raw vocals, real melody. LOVE his voice. Thank you Paul, for helping me be a better vocaliist❤
You delivered, Anthony! Love him..now I love her. 🙏
Paul Rodgers is a treasure. So happy he is still with us. God bless Paul and Cynthia.❤
The love Paul and Cynthia have for each other is off the charts. Paul seemed to be everywhere . Hard to believe we are just finding this out now. He has always been the best rock lead vocalist. My lord Bad Company and Free.
Music royalty. Paul Rodgers is one ifbthe greatest ever singers
Paul looks great ❤🎉😊so glad you're well,sir 😌
I'm surprised that CBS Mornings even knows who Rogers is?? He still has arguably one of the best voices in R&R today! He's blessed with that voice & now with his health again! Godspeed Paul!
*Rodgers
What a lovely couple ❤
Paul Rogers is a legend he’s my all time favorite vocalist I ❤ this guy and all the bands he’s been part of
Up there at the top, all the best Paul.🇬🇧🏴
😮I didn't know all this; glad for your miracle. Lovely couple. Paul Rodgers is on my list of top vocalists..wonderful voice & entertainer!!!!
One of Rock-and-Rolls finest voices! God Bless and sending positive energy to you Paul!
Paul. I'm 76 and YOU have been my 'Main Man' from the begining. First, I was shocked to learn of your strokes (of course!!) but then!... the medical needs and all that entails to get you back into your life and family first and then your voice. I wish you a positive and continued recovery and... I thank you for everything you have done with your life Paul. That said, I so wish Mick could be so lucky.
78 saw free in cologne and aachen, 🇩🇪 they were about 15 to 17 ys, with deep purple, floyd, tyrannosaurus rex, and lots, open air, it still echoes in my mind ❤
Thanks to the surgeon and his wife for bringing the greatest rock vocalist back from the ashes. As a lead vocalist I have studied Paul and his techniques for years. Thank God he is back and doing what he does best, singing his heart out. The man is phenomenal.
Insane fact for Paul Rodgers fans, One of rocks all time great vocalists is not in the rock and roll Hall of Fame. No Paul Rodgers, no Free, no Bad Company. Definitely not the only snub by the RnRHoF, but it's one of the most bewildering and biggest. Paul has been behind some of rocks most iconic music, and is one of the most influential and respected vocalists of all time.
Glad to hear his health is returning and I still enjoy hearing Paul sing.
The RNRHOF is merely a platform for Jann Wenner’s narcissistic self-adulation. Fortunately, it’s irrelevance is widely recognized. Fans know the true Rock elite. We don’t need his validation at all.
He has been offered..but..turned it down!
I am listening to his new album continuously without knowing any of this. It is a miraculous effort. Paul is a beast of Rock but also lucky as well, to have people who care so much for him.
Oh wow!!! What an incredible man!!!
Paul Rodgers has an amazing voice. He definitely is one of my favorites. I hope he continues to heal and make more music. Bad Company is such a great band. A 1970's treasure. His wife, Cynthia, is just a wonderful and caring person. You can see the love between the both of them. Rock on Paul rock on.
Greatest rock vocalist ever! Up there with Steve Marriott. Thank god he came out alright!
Wow so glad he's ok and still with us ! He is a Rock Legend and most definitely one of the Best Vocalist in the Music Business.... Im blessed to have met him and to spend some time with him back in the 90's when he double billed with Lynyrd Skynyrd... A Great guy.... Best wishes to Paul and his family 🤟❤️🤟
I wore out their greatest hits cassette/CD back in the day!!
How wonderful and miraculous he’s healing and what a true loving partner. ☮️💟
So thankful that it went well. That voice, you know it anywhere.
I just heard the incredible album without knowing about how serious his illness and recovery was. What an astounding story, he sounds as good as ever. What a blessing for all of us who love him, his songs and singing. Cynthia is a wonderful woman and wife I can tell.
Thankfully the surgeon performed an excellent procedure and has enabled Paul to return to full health and music. Sending a hug to him and his beautiful family from Italy.
Beautiful 🙏🏻😘🙏🏻
❤❤❤❤ SEAGULL❤❤❤❤
So beautiful
Thank goodness for our doctors!!
Paul Rodgers: One of the greatest RnR frontmen ever. Not in RnR Hall: Travesty.
Easily on Mt. Rushmore or greatest rock vocalists with Freddie and Robert Plant, and anybody you want to put 4th. Maybe Roger Daltrey..
Lennon and/ or McCartney?
An amazing story!!
I just ADORE Paul Rogers, one all of the all time greatest!!
First major stroke in 2016 and the second in 2019. I saw Paul on tour with Jeff Beck and Ann Wilson in August 2018, so he was in the middle of this then. He sounded great that night, so learning of his health problems is quite a surprise. I'm glad he is still with us and is still making great music!
We saw that incredible tour too. No sign of any problems thankfully. Can not imagine a world without that man or voice
I also saw that tour and it was great.
I saw bad Company with Joe Walsh 2016 and Paul Rodgers was amazing that night and the entire tour
@@tylerpatterson4787 ooh that must have been a killer show! Wish BC would tour states again.
And he sounds exactly the same as he always has. Amazing.
One of the best voices in rock and roll. So underrated
Unde rated? Most critics agree that he is one of the great voices ever!
I'm so glad that you got your health back and especially your voice which I and many others have enjoyed for so many years and manyore years to come. It reminded of my wife and I went through 3 years ago when I was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. I'm so grateful to put wives and the tremendous support and love which had a great deal with our recovery's.
Free are my favourite band. A miraculous combination of talents. Thank you Paul
Love him!
I didn’t know. I’m so happy Paul is still with us 🙌
As a man heading into my late 50's, I grew up listening to free and bad company. As an ex-musician let me just say this, and I am sure musicians all around the world would agree. Paul Rodgers' voice is an instrument in itself. What a gift God gave him!
Absolutely Love ❤️ Paul !
I saw Bad Company in 1979 on their Desolation Angel's tour (Heart opened for them).
One of the best concerts of my life.
He is "The Voice" of Rock and Roll. Rock steady, Paul.
How is Bad CO not in the Rock and Roll HOF ?
He should be in the rock and roll hall of fame twice but he not in at all
I discovered Paul Rodgers when I was a teenager in the 80s. My older brother had Straight Shooter and the second the needle dropped on Good Lovin Gone Bad, I was blown away and he soon became my all-time favorite vocalist. He also turned me on to soul music because I would read interviews and he would talk about his influences like Otis Redding. So in my mind he is a giant. Huge influence on me.
Listen to his early stuff 👍 and if you get the chance have a listen to the album ‘ Kossoff’ guitarist with FREE 🤘
@@Mark-id3ub oh yeah. Soon after I got all my BadCo albums, I naturally gravitated towards Free. However only Fire and Water and the greatest hit compilation was available in American record shops. This was long before the internet so I had to get the other albums imported from the UK lol. I remember the excitement of getting the cardboard box in the mail and opening it up.
God Bless Paul. That surgery is very risky. My Dad had same surgery in 68 when I was 12. Sadly he never recovered from his strokes. Shocking when i saw my lovely father return after several weeks in the hospital with that awful scar on his neck. Turned our world upside down. So glad that Paul is doing so well. What a voice.
Induct Bad Company & Free into the R&R Hall ASAP!!
GOD had another plan! The Great Physician, Amen! Thank you Lord!
So very true,........Amen!
Paul had a scare, but thank God he’s Alright Now!
Iconic rock voice. Stay well Sir Paul!
What a wonderful story! I had no idea Paul was undergoing such health concerns. He is my all-time favorite lead singer in Rock history and the best ever to do it, in my opinion. I can't wait to hear his new album!!!
I wish Gayle would retire already. She’s so annoying
So happy that he has a great support system. You can feel the love.
million dollar voice, for me he's more easily known as the lead man for free.
Blessings to a living legend and national treasure!
May God bless you even more Paul. You’re definitely the king of the blues 🤘🏽
Happy for Paul...great man and what an inspiring vocalist and musician!
So glad Paul is on the road to full recovery. Best Wishes to Paul, Cynthia and their family.
Great interview !! Incredible comeback after a series of health scares..🤘🤘🎸✌️❤️
🤘✌️♥️
I'm happy for him and his family that he's recovered. His is one of the voices that I associate with growing up and one of the greatest voices in Rock 'N' Roll. I'm looking forward to hearing the new album. It'll have that much more resonance knowing what he went through to make it.
I have been drawn to Paul's gorgeous voice since he was with Free. And still to this day, Paul's voice can send shivers down my spine... 💜🖤💜🖤💜
Bad Company was the first rock album I bought back in the 70's and still one of my all time favorite bands.
Beautiful couple❤️❤️❤️💜💙🩵💚💛🧡a true blessing to have each other 🙏💞🙏🎵🎵💐💐😇😎😎✨🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
One of my very favorite bands. Saw them five times and was NEVER disappointed!!
Welcome back Paul!

Love you Paul. Yer an amazing man. Got too see you many yrs ago. Hanover park ill . Live.. you have brang nothing but joy life and reality too my life your songs saved me. Helped me heal.. you are one of God's angels on this planet. So happy you are getting back too being you. I honestly think you. Are the best front man. There are many good ones.. but Paul you are the best...💪🎯👌 Thank you. For sharing yer gifts. I love you man ❤️⭐🙏
He's lucky to have found a HOF wife who clearly adores and supports him. She's a gem. As a teenager growing up during the 70's I absolutely loved Bad Co.'s self-titled debut album and I still do to this day...just a classic album. Thank God Paul's still with us and sounding great again.
What a beautiful interview! Keep healing, Keep Rocking. 🌞
Lucky guy. Great wife.
When he sings, you know instantly who it is
Been a fan since the Bad Co days. He dealt with his problems how he saw fit. Glad he and his wife made it through such a trying time.
Thank, Good Orderly Direction Paul Is Back On Track!!!🙏🏻🍀🎭
One of the greatest voices over the last 60 years. Keep rockin' Paul.
We almost lost "The Voice".
Sad thing is that if he's had that many strokes, he's likely to have them again, unfortunately. Hopefully it's not for a long long time.
I knew that recently he was looking kind of frail, and now I know why. I had no idea he'd been that ill. So, all I can say is, long live Paul Rogers. And I might add; to anyone who has not seen Paul's performance with Queen in, "Return of the Champions," you are missing one of the most stirring and memorable rock concerts, ever!
