Many thanks for the time and effort you put into these videos, the options on this camera are considerable and there is no better way of learning than watching someone demonstrate how best to use the most appropriate setting for a particular photo.
Hi Graham, thank you for these videos! We've had this camera for a long time and never really took the time to sit down and analyze it. So much to learn and to remember!!
I appreciate these videos and the manual. Bought my camera at the beginning of this year and these videos are by far the best to gain knowledge about the FZ300. Thank you.
Your tutorials are an answer to a prayer. My head is swimming with new ideas. All through the video I found myself saying "gosh, I wish I had known that when" ..... (fill in the instance). I love this camera in spite of the frustration that I've felt trying to adapt to the UI with such a minimum amount of photography knowledge. Walking us through the menus is really helpful. We recently returned from an 8,500 mile journey where on Day 5 of 44, I rolled my ankle and scraped my knee when I fell trying to "get that shot". In an attempt to brake my fall (apparently) I let go of the camera in a flinging motion which pitched it maybe 8 feet in the air landing about 10 feet away. Aside from the pain from skin loss, I was mortified about what I saw happening in "slow motion" at that point. The reason for mentioning all this is that the camera came away unscathed and was used to document our travels for the next 39 days. Considering what it went through, I'm amazed at how great most of the pictures were that I took. I can hardly wait for the next adventure now that I know so much more ... thank you :-)
I absolutely love this series. Just got this camera and was totally green on even how to begin, but your videos have made things so much easier for me. Thank you, and keep up the fantastic work @Graham Houghton
Thank you for the video tutorial. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve had my FZ300 for months, and I’m only now learning about it through these tutorials. Easy to follow & insightful.
I'ved ust ordered an FZ330 as my lovely Fuji Finepix stopped working. Very nervous, it seems very complicated but the reviews are good and I think it will be more than enough for what I want - so very happy to see this vide o which is EXACTLY what I need, delivered in a calm and friendly manner where not-very-technical amateurs like me can learn what we need to know. Than you Graham, I hope there are more ..
Thanks so much for your comprehensive and well done guides to the FZ300. I just never realized how many features and options are available and to learn.
Well done again Graham, have had my 300/330 for some months now, keep watching your videos, I shall have more time soon to also take photo's. Have also orderd the battery box mod for video work.
Who knew! I have owned 2 of these cameras and sold my last one a year ago. Just repurchased one after reviewing some of my old pictures (and seeing that they were of good quality) and this series has helped me so much! Just bought your book and am looking forward to creating all kinds of images thanks to your helpful explanations.
I sold and then missed my DSLR and bought the FZ-300 to replace it. Very informative videos, even though I'm slightly above, but just slightly above real beginners. :) Thank you very much. I also bought your manual, but I'll start with the beginner's guide here on TH-cam.
Your videos are really helping me to start to understand photography & my FZ330. Very much appreciate the time & effort you put in to helping me and all of us watching your channel. Keep up the great work! :)
Another great video Graham. I have had my camera for a year now and continuing to learn more and more about its features.....mainly from you in your publications and videos. You explain them so well. Thank you so much! Looking forward to the next part in this series.
Thank you for making these tutorials. My camera arrives tomorrow and will be using on Friday for my daughter’s graduation. Learning as much as possible, and probably be using this iA mode.
Thank you very much for this material. It helps me make a much better use of my camera. I am not a native speaker so sometimes I need to listen to some parts several times, so it is also a listening exercise but I am very happy with this material overall. Much better than I ever expected to find on TH-cam.
I love your videos about this camera. I have one and I have been taking notes as you speak. You explain everything extremely well and I appreciate it. Thank you!
Yes I believe it is a powerful introduction to learning how to use the camera and gain confidence in what it can achieve, later you will be amazed at what yo can do when you take more control of the camera.
Agrium hello from Atlanta Georgia in the USA you are so wonderful actually giving a course on aperture ISO it's just wonderful you explain it in detail we have a better understanding of what the functions do and how they work with the camera we commend you on this thank you so much your best friend
I justed picked up on something very important ....that being that when you are set up on a tripod you should be using the electronic shutter, not the mechanical sutter. Ive had the camera for two years and never knew that. Thanks Graham.
Thank you, Graham. I bought this camera because I was looking for a good camera to take hiking to photograph wildlife and flowers. I seem to have bought more than I bargained for so I really appreciate your videos. My question is from Part 2, about 18:00 minutes in,where you take about the three tabs on the right side of the screen. I always see the < tab and the Fn tab, but the iA tab is sometimes not present. What do I do to make it visible?
Thanks for your series on learning to use my Lumix camera. Your instructions have eased my frustration at the learning curve of switching to digital photography.
Graham, superb videos! Thanks so much they’re sooooo helpful! May I ask a couple of questions? I’m a total novice having just bought this camera with some trepidation as I was fearful of being overwhelmed with complications! Around 7mins in you say that the sharpest aperture is 4.0. But the screen goes up to 8 so I don’t understand? Second question is around the colour balance. You kindly explain it and then take a few photos. Are these adjustments you can make after the photo is taken or must they be made before the photo is taken? Ie take a photo, see it’s wrong, adjust and retake? You can’t adjust retrospectively I mean? Much obliged!
Graham, can you tell me about how long the internal battery or capacitor should retain the settings, while the battery is removed? Panasonic USA was not able to answer this question. Thank you for the great videos!
This is a great tutorial, thank you. When I set the aperture to f2.8, I don’t get any background blur like I’d hoped. Is it possible there’s something wrong with the camera or are there some other steps that I’m missing?
I just received this camera for valentines and I'm excited to get started. I watched the very first video and now on to the second. I got to the part where you state that you have the image review set to HOLD. I tried to set my camera as well but I can't find this option anywhere in menu settings. How do you set the image review to hold so the image stays on the screen?
how do you access the electronic shutter and how to turn off the shake compensation - by the way thank s for doing this series - this is the first camera I have purchased for myself in around 35 years so I am way behind the curve here - I hope you can be patient with me.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed with the upgrade from the 200, but finally sitting down to watch your videos. I see you used a remote at the beginning of the video. Was this a separate purchase, it was not included with my purchase. Much Thanks!
dear Graham, great video's - I do not get the subject motion tracking in my screen. I have the exact same options like you and also went through the first video.
Hi, nice video. I recently bought this Panasonic fz300 camera. But I found on the lens, 3-4 mm from the edge of the lens, a scratch, about 1 mm, the thickness of a needle tip! Can it affect my photos or movies, are there other things like that? Thanks.
I just received my FZ300 and I'm going through your excellent tutorials, which are a great help. I'm trying to find how to turn off the Image Stabilization. I plan on doing some shooting on a tripod. I've read through the whole manual which describes the function, but it doesn't show how to access it on the Menu. I'd appreciate your help in this matter. Bob B.
Thank you for this series. I was sorry to see that the focal length is not recorded in the additional image info. If one brings RAW files into a photo editor program that handles same, a focal length does appear - but do we need do convert to a 35mm equivalent focal length by multiplying the displayed number by 5.62? A newbie here - to photography itself. .... and to this camera. I hope to learn how to use manual focus later in the series (I also bought your book from Amazon, so will search that also) - thinking I will use a semi-automatic mode such a A priority or S priority for desired effect. Yet, I'd like to be able to list the focal length used in shots - on top of ISO, F and S stops. Other thoughts?
I use Photoshop Elements 2018 for now. Been taught that focal length and aperture impacts DOF - so want to track and understand the combos of same in reviewing DOF results.
hello, the videos on the FZ300 are really helpful. I'm interested in wildlife photography and I own the FZ330. What videos you recommend watching. Thanks
Good stuff graham.I have this camera and also the panasonic p900.I must say that the Panasonic fz300 is mush better at focus than the Nikon but im not sure which camera has better picture quality over all. Would love to see a side by side comparison video.
On the the Expanded Info Image on my camera, I don't havea histogram or some of the icons that are on the camera that you are using. My model is the 330. Very useful tutorials though, so thanks very much for that.
Hi Graham, I have watched and learned much from your earlier videos - MANY THANKS! But I was totally unaware of the (F2) background defocus mode. Did I miss it somewhere, if so, where? I would love to learn more about it - seems like it might be helpful in certain situations. Thanks.
There are a lot of hidden gems with this camera as there are so many ways to set up the menus and function buttons. However there is a danger that some users lock out certain features and are unsure of how to get them back.
Hello Graham, thank you for your instruction video's, very usefull. I've noticed that when I use background defocus Mode and if I choose an aperture, I can't use Subject Motion Tracking. Is that the way it's supposed to be or is there a way around it.
Thank you mr. Houghton. Very usefull tutorial, although i probably have to look at it at least one more time to capture all the information you've packed in here...
Good afternoon Graham. I have been watching your videos and purchased your book, and have found them very helpful. Could you please help me. I have a Lumix DMC-FZ330 and I want to take photos of basically just sheep. I stand a long way off so as not to upset them, and use my zoom to take some really good closeup photos. I think I have the camera set the easiest and best for me, (not being a photographer, am unsure of all the terminology) Do you have a wee video that would show me the best settings for what I am wanting? Many thanks, Ruth
Hallo Graham. After seeing your great tutorials I recently bought tue FZ300. Now I try to find out bis um convince the camera to insert copyright data into the EXIF data. Can you help me? Thank you Michael
Loving your way of explaining … Am looking at purchasing FZ300 which has FIRMWARE v2 installed. Am not familiar with that.. Are you able to explain please?? Many thanks.
Although I was late to the party by a several years when you officially kicked it off, I was still able to dance from the information left. Thank you! Also, I bought a refurbished one on Amazon, received an error message" "System Error ( O.I. S.) then the camera went dead. Nevertheless, I returned it for a new one, followed your set-up guide, and it stayed on.
following the video exactly , however my screen numbers are different, and cant focus on small objects on my desk at all. on auto, the focus is not working, and my screen is missing some of those icons that show on the back of yours. but this is still too much info for me, lol so oh well, guess ill reset my camera all over again. camera was a xmas gift, but way to complicated for me lol.
Great tutorial. I learned more about the camera in 10 minutes than from reading the owner's manual. Is it necessary to format the memory card if it is a new card?
Hi Graham, just got my FZ300 (of course after seeing your videos) and in iA+ (iA), the focus grids don't stay on until the time of the shutter is fully pressed. When I half press, it shows the focus squares in green but don't stay on until the shutter fully pressed. This is not the case in my Sony and Nikon cameras. Even in this video, I can see something similar. Is this normal for FZ300?
Yes this is normal, when you half depress the shutter button you will see that some of the 49 area rectangles will illuminate green followed by a short beep. This is when the camera has acquired and locked focus. If the camera cannot lock focus you will not get the confirmation beep and the camera will remind you of the focus range for the zoom that you have deployed on the camera
Thx for the quick reply Graham. Looks like Panasonic does differently things when compared to my Nikon and Sony. One more question if you don't mind related to the focus modes. The point focus option (the last on the list) is frozen in my view and I know it's a setting that I've changed which caused it. Would you know what's causing it please?
Hello I have looked at most of your videos, for the life of me I can't find manual mode explained on the fz 300. How to change shutter & aperture settings, the wheel at the top does one but thats it.
Hello, I'm now watching your videos, great work! I recently bought this camera and I'm disappointed with it's perfomance in nature shots. Greens are very dull and grayish and contrast is very high. I went on a mountain and compared my photos with those I took last time with my Lumix TZ40 and the TZ40 ones where WAY better. I tried different modes and color saturation but I'm still not satisfied. Could it be that my camera is faulty? I also have a serious problem with ISO. When I work in auto, it gets very high ISOs and produces too much noise. Indoor photos with plenty of light where my older Lumix cameras where working with ISO 100, 200 or 400 MAX, are now taken with ISO 2000 or 2500!!! I even took some samples right after sunset and they went for 2000 ISO instead of 100! Auto ISO is not practicaly working since it should be able to be correctly set according to the surrounding light and conditions...
Quick question....I purchased the hard copy of the "User's manual" and you stated that a black and white pdf version was available ...How do I download that PDF version? Thank you so much for your time.
Hi, I have a question : Is it better to buy a FZ300 with teleconverter or FZ82 if My goal is to use the zoom in normal daylight condition ? tks for the input on that
Click Menu --> then click Custom on ribbon --> go to page 7 and click auto review --> Change duration time to 4 seconds ( i feel that gives you enough time to really look at image)
Just bought the camera so I'm watching and learning this in 2024 😂

Great video!!
Lovely, clearly explained. Thanks
This is brilliant for me as a novice photographer
When you go to the exposure button on the screen I do t have that. I have a t/w with arrows. What I that? How can I find my exposure button?
In which menu is the "review" function located?
thank you very much, the videos are very useful
Quick question....I purchased the hard copy of the "User's manual" and you stated that a black and white pdf version was available ...How do I download that PDF version? Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you Learned a lot from you Sir
Hi, I have a question : Is it better to buy a FZ300 with teleconverter or FZ82 if My goal is to use the zoom in normal daylight condition ? tks for the input on that
Anyone know how to turn image stabilization on and off? can't find that anywhere.
thanks!
Hi Grant wondering how to get the “review hold” on the screen. Also where do I choose electronic shutter? Ty
Click Menu --> then click Custom on ribbon --> go to page 7 and click auto review --> Change duration time to 4 seconds ( i feel that gives you enough time to really look at image)
