I have the same unit and had EXACTLY that cap blow up on me too. Thanks for pointing out, I looked around quickly but missed the other RIFA caps. I'm gonna have to recap it soon i guess, just to be safe. I love this scope and want to keep it around for as long as possible!
Hi, thanks a lot, I just get a 2215 a month ago, it looks very well, but I will start replacing all the old parts as you show on this video. ;-)
I just bought a 2215 that is humming and giving off electrical smells. I will check the rifas, and other caps. I think there is something else going on too, as no measurements are working, so may need to replace some transistors too. thanks for sharing!
Very observant. The original cap was the large Sprague & had a metal case with 3 earth lugs and the positive lead. It was replaced with a two wire electro. The links just tie the earths together
Love the video!
I knew the RIFA capacitors were a problem in these scopes, but not the IEC connectors!
Thanks for making this video because it might just save my scope from an explosion.
What going on there at 5:00 with the jumper wires? Traces lift off the board?
Hi great video, i have the same issue, I want to replace the old caps, can you share the replacement caps you used, finding it hard to find equivalent. Thx
For the electrolytics I used ordinary like for like values that are usually readily available. For the Rifas I made sure to replace Class X with Class X and Class Y with Class Y of the same value. I think I sourced these from a large component supplier like Element14
Thank you!
