I actually remember being quite surprised when they announced a split decision, don’t get me wrong Fury had moments and rounds that he bettered Usyk, but I remember it being a clear Usyk win, maybe I’m wrong?
Not wrong, I thought exactly the same. However, Compubox stats show it tighter than it looked. Round 1, Fury out landed Usyk 9 to 8. (9 landing from 37 thrown to Usyk 8/18), but all three judges gave it to Usyk. Round 2, Usyk out landed Fury 15/26 to 13/40 but 2 judges gave it to Fury. Round 3, Fury 15/46 out landed Usyk 12/32, but 2 judges gave it to Usyk. From round 3 to 6 Fury out landed Usyk each round and had most, but not all, judges giving him those rounds. From round 8 to 12 Usyk's punch output increased, along with punches landed and gave him most of those rounds, but not all judges gave him those rounds. The real surprise is Round 12 where Usyk greatly out landed Fury 18/47 to 10/41, with 14 power punches to Fury's 7, but all 3 judges gave it to Fury. Go figure. The trick, I think, is that professional judges score a little different to amateurs, where any legal landing blow scores. Pro judges score of punches landed, power punches, impact and control of the ring/fight also. The real surprise out of all this is how much lower Usyk is in punches thrown in the first few rounds, because he looked busy, but I presume a lot of those were feints. But, yes, I thought Usyk won clean, but boxing is a funny game. Compubox stats here if interested: www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/1cwzcky/compu_box_numbers_from_fury_vs_usyk/ And scorecards here: sports.yahoo.com/fury-vs-usyk-scorecards-did-010909360.html My fear in all this is that if the fight is this close again, and it probably will be unless Fury can hurt Usyk, is that the judges will give it to Fury to create a third fight.
Spot on I only gave fury 4 rounds tbh I think people gave fury abit to much credit for winning them aswell because everyone usyk has fought win a few of the middle rounds because he doesn't through as many punches but he keeps pressuring with his feet to keep them moving and as me know a bigger man Is gonna feel the pace loads more than a smaller one then the last 4 rounds that's when he starts increasing his punch output again and nobody has been able to match him it just shows how good he is because he fights the same way against everybody and nobody has worked out a way to beat him because he puts them straight on the back foot and circles round his opponents so the bigger man isn't has big anymore when he's took the range away from them
Let’s be honest I love fury, but he only won 3 rounds tops like, usyk was gong easy tbf we haven’t seen the best of usyk yet, usyk should and could of ended it in the 9th if it wasn’t for the ref saving fury I don’t even know wot fight the judges was watching but they needs sacking coz it wasn’t even close….
Sure, but fury was fading compared to Usyk which is why he was hit by that 2 piece. Fury isn't going to get less tired especially if he's front foot heavy this time.
Yep. I've never bet against usyk and he's never let me down. I've been wrong with fury twice. Thought klitschko would beat him. I was wrong. Thought fury would beat wilder the 1st time. It was a draw
@ I take most opportunities to slag Fury off because I genuinely think he deserves the stick I give him, so I must be fair in saying I felt the first Wilder fight robbed Fury of a blatant win. I have a feeling this rematch on 21st December will end in a draw after a hard, long chess match. The wait for a trilogy seems tedious. I’d love to see Usyk win again, I think Fury is embarrassingly overrated and hasn’t fought anyone of any worth. Also is a vile character with no respect for the sport.
Nganu *ALMOST* beat Fury (which is hilarious) .... people say "Fury didnt take it seriously...." Usyk *BEATS* Fury convincingly ..... people say "Fury didn't take it seriously...." Only thing Fury has taken seriously for the last 5 years was DUCKING USYK .... and buying his lil bags of powder.
Trust me it's not the British public, anybody who isn't a Fury fanboy knows the truth. I didn't pick Fury to win the first fight but jesus, if people pick him to win the rematch they're truly deluded.
This narrative that Fury won the first 3 rounds is absolute INSANITY😆 I’ve watched that fight must be more than 8 times now. He did NOT win those rounds. He was beaten up!!!
I had Usyk winning all 3 of the opening rounds but he wasn't beating Tyson up. He was outboxing him yes, beating him up, no. Same with Fury in the next 3 rounds. Fury was beating Usyk to the punch and landed some good shots in the 6th, but at no point did I ever think Usyk was out of the fight. The 7th was close and the Usyk took over from the 8th and hurt Tyson badly in the 9th. To give Fury credit he had a decent 12th round but Usyk clearly won the fight. I had it 8-4 in rounds and 116-111 on the cards 🥊
He must have forgot about usyks performance againat mairis briedis. I think most people would agree that was usyk at his highest level on the pro scene
Fury's spent. First signs of rapid decline seen vs Ngannou. Bad stamina, slowed down, not agressive. His tactic bein on the back foot was daft. btw i think his coach's needs to be fired., they are to pally pal, not enough hard work and focus. I'd be shocked if he won a rematch, well maybe if they rob Usyk for verdict he can..
This was excellent! The questions were great, the in depth details and nuances Groves and Wardley got into was so informative. Fascinating insight indeed!🥊 🙏🏼
Even after all this time, lots of people still don't realise what an absolute nightmare of an opponent Usyk is. Like Fabio says, it's really not as simple as "just put it on him" or "just come forward more".
He is a nightmare . Very very talented. But he can't knock anyone out at heavyweight so theoretically they should be finding ways to stick it om him. Obviously none is up to it. Make the ring three foot by three foot and usyk goes good night. Physics don't lie. Usyk is conditioned better than his heavyweight opponents. Throwing punches from angles and moving sideways (and his head) makes him hard to hit. I know how tyson can do it. Just throw long and push him back when he wants to get in close. He's scoring points from close in.
Fury didn't "throw it away", Usyk took that victory with both hands from Fury and there was absolutely nothing Fury could do about it! Also, it wasn't a close fight like these boys are making out, Usyk won by atleast 2 rounds and let's not forget round 9 where Usyk nearly cleaned Fury out the ring!
@Infern0121 Atleast 2 rounds. I think Fury won 4,5,6,7 and there were a couple of swing rounds which easily could've gone to Usyk & Fury almost got knocked clean out in the 9th. There was only one winner.
Thanks vm for your insights gentlemen. This is a lot harder to make a prediction than the first fight was. Even though, almost everyone wrongly said, Fury would win first time, myself included. We all had a sneaky suspicion that Usyk was too slick, fast and sneaky for Tyson, bc of their different styles and physiologies. Now, we know that Tyson can adapt his game plan, he has to to have any chance of winning. It’s all about not letting himself be put on the back foot, to control the space and dictate the terms of engagement. All good so far, but the problem ahead is that Usyk will know this and even if Tyson succeeds, doing what he needs to; Usyk has the speed and capacity to adjust, to keep out of range, of Tyson’s power punches and move around the sides. To get chances to wear down Tyson, by going to the body first, in the early rds and getting Tyson to lower his guard, creating gaps in Tyson’s defence uptop. It’s all carefully calculated and Usyk has developed his fast footwork, movement techniques and stamina, to be able to counter whatever Tyson, or anyone else can throw at him. So that means that Tyson has two ways of trying to unsettle Usyk from his game plans. 1. Try to make it as ugly as possible and draw Usyk into a slugfest, like the Wilder Wars. Which is basically what Tyson tried to do in the first bout, with some success, but nowhere near enough. 2. Try to outscore Usyk for the points win. Which was Tyson’s plan B in the first fight. Tyson knows this is the harder route for his style and physique, against a slippery mover like Usyk. It’s harder for Tyson to maintain a rhythm and tempo that can outmatch Usyk for the whole distance. Than to disrupt the natural flow of the fight, by upsetting the Apple cart and landing big bombs. But if Tyson can get the right training, he can change his physique enough to be able to contend with Usyk by points. It’s similar in this way to AJ Bs Ruiz. AJ had to trim himself down, out move Ruiz and not give any free chances away. The obvious difference is Usyk isn’t Ruiz, he’s a much faster and fleeter footed opponent. With all the strengths of Ruiz, but not the flaws. And Tyson has range and power advantages over Usyk that AJ didn’t have against Ruiz. AJ had the speed advantage that Tyson lacks against Usyk. Not that Tyson doesn’t have speed, he clearly does and power. But the stamina is the one factor that means Tyson has to time and pace his attacks, for the fight’s duration. That AJ didn’t have to worry about with Ruiz. He had the clear speed advantage for the entire rematch. In conclusion; The speed factor is a way of controlling the range. Tyson has the natural range advantage, so he doesn’t need as much speed against “normal” opponents. But Usyk is an exceptional opponent. So Tyson will have to use every tool in his inventory, just to match Usyk, for a 12 Rd fight. That has to be the winning game plan for Tyson. Then the pressure will be firmly on Usyk to take the extra unnecessary risks that he didn’t have to in fight 1. It will make Tyson more relaxed and not too eager to get in close with Usyk and then make Usyk open gaps in his defences, instead of vice versa. I think the problem with fight 1, is that Tyson and his whole team were stuck with a Wilder mentality and projected that onto a radically different opponent. This requires a much more complex technical approach than the Wilder fights. Simply bc of the difference in styles and physiques, between Wilder and Usyk. It’s not that Tyson did anything wrong whatsoever against Usyk in fight 1, other than doing it against the wrong person. Whatever happens, it will be the best fight of all time most likely. But if it is a draw after 12 Rds. Doesn’t that just mean Usyk gets to keep all his belts and it’s all settled? Usyk won the first time so a draw means Usyk wins the game. Like Lennox Lewis V Holyfield. I don’t see why Usyk would want to risk defending his crown again, against the same person twice. So by this reasoning, the pressure is squarely on Tyson’s shoulders, to get a conclusive win this time. He let it slip through his fingers in fight 1 and after Rd 9, it was a miracle he was still in the fight at all. I don’t believe what Frank Warren and Steve Bunce said, about seeing Tyson and Usyk in the dressing rooms afterward. They said that by talking to them, you’d think Tyson won and Usyk lost. That’s just Tyson being cocky and getting hit around so he didn’t know what happened and Usyk’s calmness and humility. Nothing to do with injuries to Usyk that’s all BS. Tyson was the one bleeding out his nose and flailing around in the ring. Of course he’ll say he won as well, bc one of the judges backed him wrongly. He must’ve been watching a different fight or has a sight vision problem. Even die hard Fury fans said Usyk won and his own corner didn’t celebrate, bc they knew as well. Tyson Fury is the only person, who isn’t completely insane, who thought he won. That’s why he had to tell everyone so emphatically, bc no one else thought that already. Usyk didn’t need to blow his own trumpet, bc he knew he won. Lastly, at the end of the day, they’re both human and beatable. If nothing else, Tyson definitely proved that much at least. But can he deliver the right game plan against the right opponent this time?
I really think showboating is part of fury's game plan he do that for reasons because he always protect him self when he do that...usyk understand that during fight....
If it hadn't been for the second and third Wilder fights ( a guy who could BANG but do bugger all else ) who would we be saying Fury has beaten? An old Kilstchko??
Fury only actually won 5 rounds in the first fight and 1 judge gave fury the win . They are currently rushing the rematch as they truly want fury to win. I think it’s worth a bet on fury by decision as imo it’s impossible for him to finish usyk .no point betting on usyk because he’s favourite GO BIG OR GO HOME
Fury lost 8:4 on rounds in first match....... by purist boxing judging. Hitting gloves are not points. If Fury will try to KO Usyk, Usyk will KO fury during openings. Usyk is exceptional from back foot and can wrestle and out footwork hugging Fury (also has a better chin).
Fury won 5 rounds out of 12. Usyk landed 13 more punches than Fury over 12 rounds 😂 Some of the rounds were really close and could've been scored for either fighter
@@Anthony.Joshuas_lrish_Grandma The punches Usyk blocked with his gloves don’t count. Usyk dominated that fight. Fury only won three rounds - maybe four if I’m being generous. Your boy got whooped.
This breakdown was so biased in favour of Fury , when Carl Frampton saying Usyk can’t improve but Fury can really annoyed me, and everyone except George Groves agreed, and anytime George gave Usyk credit , Frank Warren wanted to instantly shut his argument down 🤦
once we see them both come out for the 7th u know uysk will have the pace to finish tired tyson......simple ,Tyson needs to finish this fast and early at a chance for a 3rd UNDISPUTED FIGHT or fight dubois or parker...usyk will retire being 37 at the end of this fight if he wins 23/0/0
People also need to understand Fury is 40 pounds heavier, 7 inches more in reach and 5 inches taller. That gives Usyk quite a big size disadvantage. It’s like a light welterweight fighting a light heavyweight.
The ref was following the rules. He gave Usyk 30 seconds to land a ko punch on Fury and only intervened when Fury collapsed against the ropes. Corrupt Matchroom judges tried to rob Usyk against Anthony Joshua in both fights. Ref Luis Pabon let Anthony Joshua hit Usyk with lowblows, rabbit punch in the 9th and shoulder slam in the 12th
Sorry to be spamming the comments section here but what about Tyson constantly punching off the robes? He's got hold of the top rope with one hand whilst swinging the other which obviously delivers further momentum but is also illegal in a boxing match. Frank talks about Usyk "whingeing" to the ref about body shots but those shots are constantly too low. We won't talk about him stepping on Usyk's foot all the time because loads of fighters do it and it is of course a Fight.
Usyk is the generational talent, not Tyson Fury. Usyk is the one that made history by completing the boxing story at 100% by winning everything there is to win as an amateur and professional, not Tyson Fury. Usyk is the road warrior, Usyk is the Great, Usyk will be the one that is remembered as being the greatest fighter of the generation and one of the best of all time, not Tyson Fury.

I really do believe that Fury (and more-so his approach to the fight, his preparation, and the corner-work) can be better and that Usyk was at his best in the first fight. I find it hard to look past Fury with that in mind, but I would concede that Fury isn’t getting any younger and that his lifestyle in-between fights will ultimately catch up with him. I’m no boxing expert and if anything a casual fan so forgive me if I’m wrong here but I really don’t remember this fight being this close at all?

My fear in all this is that if the fight is this close again, and it probably will be unless Fury can hurt Usyk, is that the judges will give it to Fury to create a third fight.
Thinking Usyks win was a fluke is exactly why it will happen again
The fight was not "unbelievably close." There is no argument Fury won. Fought well, lost.
A surprisingly accurate assessment, Mr Spoon.

5-3? Lol no he wasn't. He only won 3 rounds thus far 1,2, 8.
It was competitive not close. Usyk was the clear winner. Had it been a draw or a fury win it would have been an outrage.
Sure, but fury was fading compared to Usyk which is why he was hit by that 2 piece. Fury isn't going to get less tired especially if he's front foot heavy this time.

Third was closer. Gave Usyk all three.
Fury won round 3, 1 and 2 were subjective.
Fury landed and threw more in 1 and 2 imo was meh so its not exactly crazy if someone says he won all 3.
TNT Sports boxing coverage is brilliant and this show shows why. Great pundits, fantastic depth and debate.

The biggest fight was for undisputed. Usyk won. 👍🏽🤡
Okay
Couldn't agree more. Usyk wins again this time by stoppage as he is the superior boxer, simple.
Even after all this time, lots of people still don't realise what an absolute nightmare of an opponent Usyk is. Like Fabio says, it's really not as simple as "just put it on him" or "just come forward more".
He is a nightmare
A win by 2 rounds (I had Usyk wider) is pretty close tbf.
@Infern0121 Atleast 2 rounds. I think Fury won 4,5,6,7 and there were a couple of swing rounds which easily could've gone to Usyk & Fury almost got knocked clean out in the 9th. There was only one winner.
@@adamyeejy-sk9fh Usyk won clearly, I'd class it as a competitive fight, not really close though.
Fabio and George technique breakdown very intuitive, love it, GREAT STUFF!
If Fury comes in heavier it will pay into Usyk hands! Usyk will use his speed & footwork to tire out Fury & might even stop Fury late on
Thanks vm for your insights gentlemen.
I think Fury Classically underestimated Usyk and this time Fury takes it by a TKO with a body shot. Usyk falls
Fury has taken hits from the likes of Wilder, Ngannou in recent times. Those must’ve surely taken a lot out of him.

He did not win 5 rounds. He won 3 maybe 4 if your looking to give him rounds

Can tell wardley knows the game
Sorry to be spamming the comments section here but what about Tyson constantly punching off the robes? He's got hold of the top rope with one hand whilst swinging the other which obviously delivers further momentum but is also illegal in a boxing match. We won't talk about him stepping on Usyk's foot all the time because loads of fighters do it and it is of course a Fight.

The analysis from Fabio Wardley and George Groves in the final part of this episode is magnificent, especially Groves on how Usyk cuts off the ring and how Fury needs to box tall but not too tall to keep Usyk at bay. Fury needs to channel George Foreman in this fight and use arm bars like Foreman did to steer Usyk.
