- The only Yak-110 in the world, piloted by Jeff Boerboon, had its display rehearsal the day before Public Airshow, Airshows Downunder Shellharbour 2024. The public airshow takes place at Shellharbour Airport (WOL/YSHL), NSW, Australia on 2nd and 3rd of March 2024.
“The Yak-110 is an American-engineered twin-fuselage aircraft made from two Yak-55 airframes, fitted with a new wing center section supporting a single General Electric J85 turbojet engine in addition to the Vedeneyev M14P propeller engines. The idea was conceived in 2016 by pilot Jeff Boerboon and mechanic Dell Coller; Boerboon owns one of the original airframes, with the other one belonging to Chad Bartee. The plane is flown with the pilot in the left-side cockpit, and is the only three-engined aircraft to be certified for unlimited aerobatics as of 2023. Its first airshow was the Gunfighter Skies in 2018 at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. " -- from Wikipedia
You took two Yak-55s and bolted them together with a common wing and tail... the amount of engineering required to do such madness and have it fly as well as this is insane. What a beautiful, crazy piece of kit this is.
You absolute mad lads, I love it.
And that's only the start of the challenges. Dual controls and two different fuel types. Taking the drivers' licence definition of "complex aircraft" to a new level. Handling characteristics. Sheez.
They need to add a dummy to the right seat. Make it look like they're are two pilot's 😮!!
Two turning, one burning... Super cool plane!!
Great comment
😅👍👌👏 🤔☝️Convair B-36D "Peacemaker": "six turning, four burning", or (reality) -"two turning, two burning, two smoking, two choking and two more unnacounted for"...😉😁

The Wasp Major is an amazing feet of engineering
It's amazing how he got everything in synch. Quite a feat of engineering
@@roryhennessey1983 it astounds me, how he is able to do aerobatics and remain in full control. The aerodynamics and other forces here must be rather complex.
That takeoff was WILD!! So awesome!! 🤯
I though it was going fast forward at that time !
Just the double Yaks are outrageous enough but the turbine takes the insanity to a whole other level
Is it a turbine, or a pulse jet ...
@@damienhill6383 That's a small turbine. A pulse jet buzzes.
I have NEVER seen any plane accelerate this hard EVER, not even fighter jets on full afterburner. This beast is like a dragster.
you have a damn right brother , a fookin dragster kind of acceleration.
That looked like a catapult launch :)
У этого странного самолёта есть серьёзные ограничения по скорости - винты. Если сильно разгонится на реактивном двигателе, то произойдёт флаттер - ему винты встречным потоком воздуха поломает.
If you look up hauling ass in the dictionary.
❤❤❤ made me fall inlove with it
I WAS NOT expecting a takeoff like that! It's as if it were rocket powered.
Я думаю, что винты самолётов только мешают турбине!
Sweet mother of ..
Yep! Freaking drag race launch there. Then again it probably has some obscene power for it's size and weight.
Its not rocket powered. Its jet powered.
@@ckmoore101 "[...] It's *as if* it were rocket powered."
As an engineer, I love the "because I can" mentality. This is a 100% because I can plane and I'm about it.
this almost breaks the "only in russia" trope - but not quite. I wonder if the guys at Jakowlev know about this thing! They would love it for sure! :)
@@simonschneider5913 You should check out the Lithium, Flourine, and Hydrogen tripropellant rocket motor we made in the 60's. I think a chemist said "That's so magnificently stupid!" but the engineers only had the attention span to hear "That's so magnificent" and one of the most ridiculous, and magnificent, rocket motors was born.
@@zbubby1202 sounds quite expensive, but i bet its a great show! ;)
When you see a thumbnail and think that can't be a real thing, but you click on it anyway because you stupid. Well, damn, what a pleasant surprise! Amazing. BIG LIKE!!
I was actually thinking "If it was design under the Covid lockdowns in Australia. If so it all makes sense."
@@jaytrock3217 lol
The Aussies know how to party. 😂
I thought it was a thumbnail generated by AI !
I saw this fly over recently - had never seen it before - looked up when i heard the ridiculous jet light. It's mad :)
Who woke up one day and decided to join two Yaks and add a jet engine? I want to party with that guy.
The pilot.
That guy is drinking the fuel that powers this catastrophe
Это не ЯКи, а 2 Су-26
There was a lot of drugs involved, and probably, a welder.
😂😂😂😂😂
That is the most insane plane configuration I have ever seen in my life! I can't even believe it! WOW! I am speechless!
Эту конфигурацию использовали во Вторую Мировую Войну в Германии.
@@ПравыйРуль-ф1ф F-82 Twin Mustang 😏😉
I can't believe it, this is something incredible. A unique project in all respects. Excellent piloting skills.
That flat spin move was bad ass!
Insane and a joy to watch and hear! Saw this aircraft at the air show on Saturday… star of the show!
Me too; how good did it sound!!
Finally a 1:1 size craft that files at RC scale.
Это весело!!! Идея замечательная, на уровне пионеров авиации, где небыло никаких " канонов" и ограничений! Исполнение на отлично!
sure the plane is super awesome, but am I the only intrigued by the remote controlled tail wheel dolly that pushed the plane out of the hanger?

😅 ich habe daß auch gesehen! Klasse klein aber Fein.🎉
Me too!! That trolley dolley is wicked!
Watched it fly twice at the Airshow on Saturday. Well worth the gate money to witness an amazing flying display and to see it hover was unbelievable. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for watching and comments. I am glad that you enjoyed the plane. This plane is nothing but a miracle.
@@DrBearAviationdo these yaks have ejection seats such as a yak? Idk how involved your emergency procedures go with an engine out, have fun with the plane stay safe!
@DrBearAviation it looks like someone took a mad scientist and convinced he was mad enough and then gave him meth.
For RC planes we call it a proper hang. All you need is a 1:1 or more power to weight ratio. And a great pilot for the real thing.
oh damn, those props are spinning the same direction.. That thing must want to twist like a tornado.
I was certainly hoping that one would be a right hand tractor. Denied..
Maybe the turbine spins the other direction?
Like most twins. Contrarotating is the exception not the rule
@@robboltwood Yep. Way too cumbersome to design an engine for opposite sense of rotation.
And then there's the P-38, where they went to that length, and created a plane with two critical engines...
@@mattdadrummeit really wouldn't make any difference
Thats impressive!! Can't get over how quick it is off the mark
That 540 power driven splat spin hammer head at 5:57 was impressive.
Yes, I agree. That guy can fly !
THAT's a no shitter!

Absolute pleasure to see here in Australia!! I’ll never forget the display over the three days on the Gold Coast ❤ I was sitting outside my caravan with an ice cold beer in my favourite chair , wifeys cookin lunch and I’m in heaven 😂 best ever yewwwwwww
😂 little bj for afters?
Has the person who came up with the idea for this thing been released from the asylum, yet? Asking as a matter of public safety.
I actually met him on Saturday after his first flight. Really lovely guy and even seemed quite sane.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
It’s called having an imagination and the gall to act on it.
Hopefully he keeps taking his medication 😂
@josephwyzykowski4672. Its called a joke, and the sense of humor to recognize it
Totally Rad, and I love the Yaks, but Jimmy Franklin was the innovater who slung a turbo-jet engine under his Waco, a show that I will carry with me forever!! Love these guys too,
Love it. Thank god for eccentrics. Made me smile 😂.
I took a flight in a 4 pair of yak52's when I was a kid and almost collided with a airport cook "Chuck" in the practice area for Columbus Georgia.
Near death experience that made the ribs he cooked even more special. Me and my pilot were in the vertical and his Yak flew past our nose at least 20 or shorter feet.
Balls of steel . That was crazy unbelievably awesome 😮
Great video thanks for the upload only chance to see it up close 😊
This is the kind of airplane with so much thrust, the universe moves around it and it's really staying stationary the whole time.
Planet Express Ship
I always looked forward to the Air Force Academy Spring Break in Arizona and seeing this twin Yak along with the Jack Links Turbine Waco flying around showing the cadets what real flying was all about! Glad to see it still flying!
This thing is awesome. And it sounds SINISTER!! Love it!
So many questions here’s two. 1 How did they ensure that the additional thrust wouldn’t push the airframe beyond its limits. 2. As the airplane goes faster than the piston engines can pull it doesn’t the windmilling effect on the props create an overspeed of the engine? I’ve seen videos of aircraft diving to a crash where you can hear the engine overspeeding and eventually break apart because of the windmilling effect.
This is exactly the question I had
It's an aerobatics display so it's flown way slower than anything that would cause that kind of issue.
I wonder what a P38 would do with a jet in the center.
Just mount a couple of JATO Pods on one, cheaper than a jet engine.
That’s some incredibly close formation flying! Someone at FAA was wined and dined like no other in history to get a signature on this one
I saw this at Travis AFB. It was by far the coolest plane there
It's like the "Twin Mustang" idea but more insane!
Cletus McFarland would love this
It's red, white and blue and trying to kill you.. so I'd have to agree with you on that.
Heard this thing coming from the south on Monday, looked up and could not believe what I was seeing. Two planes four wheels, two radial motors; thought two planes had collided together and were limping it to the local airport. Glad to say it traveled on north low enough for a good look. Thanks to the pilot for giving us a chance to see this great flying machine fly over us.
This would fit him perfectly, that plane probably runs a decent high 9 in the quarter mile(while on the ground).
his wife aint stupid, she wont let him anywhere near this thing... ;)
Is he the guy on youtube?
Gotta love the tiny rc tank that's used to tow the plane around
The only clickbait thumbnail on YooChoob that's not a clickbait thumbnail.
Noise from that plane was so beautifull
It's not a noise. It's music!
Wow! I was impressed by sukois back in the day. This is incredible.
so cool the pilots have on a note all their manuevers
You need to read and make sense of the note at a glance during violent manoeuvre and with high Gs, that is what amazes me most.😀
That is without a doubt one of the silliest things I've seen. Glorious work. The moment it turns side on and you can see the length of the exhaust 😂.
Wouldn't want that jet exhaust burning up your tail.
And a nice 6 point landing. Lol. That is absolutely outrageous. I love it.
Hand down the best sounds I have ever heard from an airplane. The rumbling radial engines and screaming jet engine are incredible on their own. But paired together this thing sounds totally wicked! The plane’s approach is the classic piston radial engine sounds combined with the whistling of the jet. The jets exhaust wash then fills the air with a thunderous roar. Absolutely incredible plane and amazing piloting skills. The way it launched down the runway like a rocket totally caught me off guard, and then to immediately go into a climbing turn right after takeoff?! Holy crap that plane is awesome! Combining jet engines and traditional piston engines should totally become a new experimental trend.
Американцы больше ценят и увлечены нашей техникой, чем мы сами.... !!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy damn. That little jet is pushing some serious thrust for its size. And the radials are hard chargers too. Absolutely wicked sound and take off.
6:00 that knife edge cartwheel was an insane manoeuvre when you consider the size of this thing because ive only ever seen that done by RC airplanes
This thing is totally screams "Crimson Skies"! I mean twin planes are not a new idea (Heinkel He-111Z or the Twin Mustang) - but doing it with aerobatic planes and then adding a jet engine for good measure is just bonkers. I love it! 😁😎🤟
One 52 on its own is already overpowered, and that jet would probably be enough power for both to fly. 10/10 for the mad scientist who threw this contraption together 💪🏼💪🏼🔥
Well, good luck.
I do not see this going wrong.
Carry on
I saw that this was going to be cool. I knew it would be cool. Turns out, Way cooler than expected! That thing is Awesome!
This plane is EPIC! Hearing the prop engines on approach and the jet on departure is mind blowing.
A flying dragster! Crazy cool.
I hope it's never brought up to speeds where compressibility could become an issue.
As uptight as the world has become, I am so glad people still make joyous creations like this!
The Yak 55x2=110 is one of the coolest airplanes I have ever seen. And I’ve seen quite a few.
That is absolutely insane. I hope to see it perform one day. The acceleration on takeoff was crazy. Incredible aircraft.
this plane has earned its place in the great book of weird planes in History ☝
Wow! That's the most precise demonstration of two planes......
Heyyyyy -- Wait a minute..........
So this is what it feels like living in the birth of jet age where experimental mixed propulsions were a thing. Very unique sound.
This video gave me a big smile and Goosebumps at the same time. I like everything about this plane and the crazy pilot too.
Would be pretty badass if they could put some thrust vectoring vanes on that jet engine also... Pretty sure it has a pretty good thrust to weight ratio with all three engines running, imagine the possibilities...
It has thrust vectoring already from the tail surfaces
The acceleration on takeoff was unreal!
Охренеть, дубль Як! Оригинально!
3:14 Wow!! I was not expecting that take off. That thing launched!!
That spinning maneuver around the 6 minute mark. Never seen anything like it!
Purement expérimental ....! et quel développement à venir ..... ???
Thank you
I’d like to see the transcript of the conversation that took place discussing this design.
I’d also like to know how much beer was involved. 😂
Edit: just read the description. Australian built, there was lots of beer involved 🤣
Reminds me of the F-82 (twin P-51s) with the bonus of a jet!
Fabrication shop: "So how many engines do you want"
Owner:"all the engines... All of them"
What a Beautiful sound this makes!! The Best of both worlds! 😃🥰
That has to be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. What a rush!
Holly Cow that thing accelerates!
I saw this plane flying into Archerfield airport around a week ago.
I heard that it will continue to be based at Archerfield for a long time.
Wow! That thing is smazing. Sounds great too! That stall at 6:00 and the recovery was scary. That strange engine sound gave it an additional sense of urgency. I agree with the comment about the takeoff. Unexpectedly powerful.
Two Yaks and a Jet Engine walked into a bar.....😂
What a Radical Ride! ❤
The torque from those two radials turning in the same direction must be outrageous.
That plus a jet powered Stearman= Big Show.
Thought "no, that's crazy" but man, does it fly…in the proper hands of course. 😮
I wonder what the G’s feel like, with the pilot being so far from the center of the plane. Gotta feel weird and harder.
Awesome video mate i missed this years who as i couldnt make it there next time ill be there
Thanks mate for watching and comment. I am glad that you enjoyed it. Definitely this airshow is worth its every minute.
That was totally awesome and what a sound Best of both worlds! 😍
Unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, what a special machine…
- its a piston, turboprop or a jet plane ?
- yes
Wow!!!! What a fantastic feat of engineering, and that take off!!!!! 😮
The Yak sounds insane! Awesome.
Well, it may look fragile, but it must be immensely strong to stand up to those aerobatics.
Put in a terrific night show display at Abbotsford BC Canada Airshow couple years ago
Jaysus H that take off!!
sensational, cool, beautiful, fast.
Like the paintjob and the mixed flybysound as well.
The pilot is a deredevil.
That looked absolutely insane.
Как офицер запаса ВВС, лётчик-истребитель, скажу, что полет был прекрасен.
Dang!!! The acceleration of that thing is nuts!!! Weeks later after my commenting I still get goosebumps from watching this. Wonder if Mike Patey had anything to do with this beastcraft.
Oh Man. Crazy. Amazing
Taxi out on props, taxi in on jet, that really is a versatile stunt!
I thought the Russians were crazy, but the Americans proved that they can be rivals in madness🤩
Craziest sound I've ever heard.
The tears of emotion must flow horizontally backwards as you accelerate (Walter Röhrl)
Comrade Frankenstein would be very pleased with this.
Gotta see this in person!
Es la cosa mas loca que he visto en mucho tiempo.
Amazing flying!. Love the sound of those twin radials.I wonder what the top; speed is on that plane.
Top speed is around 250 miles/hour.
