We need more movies like this. The whole "Author vs Hollywood" documentary. Don't get me wrong. I like Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy movies. But I have noticed how Hollywood takes another person's work and totally butcher it, like the Witcher, Artemis Fowl, Marvel and Star Wars, etc. It's nice to see movies where the author speak their minds.
I think Hellboy works best on paper. From Seed of Destruction to Conqueror Worm, it's magical visual story-telling - and only when Mignola is the key artist. I don't think it'll ever be put to screen with the same creativity and vision - Studios have to make it palpable to a wide audience so the vision will be compromised. All the movies fall short of the how cool those first books still are.
Can't wait! I'm really curious about the part about Hellboy being different in Del Toro's version and Mignola's. Because, despite Del Toro's movies being absolutelay amazing, I personally like Hellboy in the comics wayyyyyy more. (TASTE PREFERENCE OKAY) It's just heavier, like he's fed up and worn and searching for meaning, with this whole neglect for the part he needs to play in the world, instead of a simplified version cracking jokes all the time. But I can imagine that whatever works for comics, doesn't work for film necessarily. I hope we're getting some cool insights!
I hate the movies for the exact reasons you've pointed out. They tried to make Hellboy and his teammates into X-Men type movies instead of going dark and closer to Universal monster-esque, and that's what I hope we'll see someday. What Mignola created is PERFECT, so why fuck with it?
He was great. Every director is going to take some privileges with the source material. It's just a matter of what liberties he deicides' to take. Also a lot more riding on Del Toro's shoulders as far as risk goes. Visually, HB1 and 2 were fantastic. They had great style on par with Star Wars at the time. Nobody would argue that his version of Hellboy world was visually far superior than the later. Not sure if the later was ever deemed closer to the source material, but it'll be my favorite take.

David Harper is Still the best choice to do a film adaptation of Hellboy! It's just so unfortunate the Hellboy film he did had all the wrong writers and director. Ron Perlman Nailed the Look from the comics and I painfully wished they tried to do me with Harper.
@@TheGuyInTheCheapSeats it scares you because it’ll influence the next generation to be open, communicative, and responsible? Weird reasons for it scare you for that
As great Perlman was as Hellboy, the movies are shit compared to the comics. Teenage moody Hellboy obsessed with cats and a crush on Liz made it so… ehhhhhhh
The Hellboy movies sucked. Pearlman was great, but Guillermo is a terrible director and storyteller. had he adapted the actual Comic stories into screenplays we would have had an amazing trilogy of Hellboy movies at least. Instead we got reboots that each look more miserable than the last.
‘The problems with the greats, is that we take them for granted” is a great quote 👏👏
Trust Neil G to come out with pure gold.
Backed this as soon as it hit Kickstarter. Excited for the rest of the world to see it! 💜
My all time favourite artist! Cannot wait!! 😂

How this people create this kind of stories is it lot of reading
I just wanna know how they will avoid talking about their pretty significant member of the team who got blacklisted from comics in 2020.
