    You make everything so easy! I made your "Sugar Cookie" body scrub the other day, (love it), and now, because I'm addicted to lip balm, I can make my own and hopefully stop spending so much money on store bought balms. Thanks for all of your videos...you're fast becoming one of my favorites on YT.

    Just be careful about using any essential oil. Not all essential oils are edible.

      Look for "cosmetic grade" oils. Many oils out there are for use in diffusers and not suitable for your lips or safe for any part of your body.

    I know you can purchase zinc oxide online and add that to the lip balm. I haven't tried it yet but when I do, I'll be sure to share the recipe on here and my blog. This lip balm is only about an SPF 6 with the Shea butter.

    Great video, but why ruin the natural recipe with a toxic lipstick? You can use beetroot, cocoa, or any natural colorant to tint it.

    • @kikitv6641
      @kikitv6641 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use beetroot powder and it's a very sensitive tint so I would not recommend it for beginners

      First of all, the term "natural" does not equal non toxic...(especially in the cosmetic world where regulations are very loose) Secondly, she specifically shows what she is using for tint in the video and it is a "Revlon" product, NOT a lipstick free of toxic ingredients, "natural" or synthetic.

    With vitamin e, they should keep nicely for up to 1 year, no need for refrigeration. I tend to use mine up within a few months time though because I use it every morning and night.

      You can use a very little amount, about one drop, just don't microwave it. You should mix it in after everything is melted. If you don't, it'll explode.

  • @christinekobzeff
    @christinekobzeff  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nope, the oils soften the wax but you could easily skip both and use only butters instead. I actually love plain whipped shea butter as a lip moisturizer.

    I do love your tutorials! I would like to kindly point out that Vitamin E is not a preservative but is an antioxidant that will help extend the life of the oils it is added to when they are exposed to oxygen. It won't keep the nasties from growing unfortunately. Also, check out Bramble Berry for the raw ingredients and supplies for a project such as this. They're awesome! Keep up the good work!

    Wanted to say that I made this with my niece about a month ago. We did a couple of different colors, but kept to the vanilla creamsicle recipe. The balms turned out great. We put them in round tins and also in regular twist-up lip balm containers. They turned out great and we had a fun time making them! She took a picture of the finished products and posted it on her Snapchat. Gave some away to friends, I believe. :) Thanks for a great tutorial!

    cheap lipbalm contains ingedients like petrolatum liquidum which are very cheap oils and are not the best thing to put on your lips. its fun to do lipbalms plus you know exactly what's inside!

  • @NataliaP
    @NataliaP 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I make my lip balms myself as well! I just prefer using cocoa butter and shea butter base and a tablespoon of almond oil. And I never add essential oils: my concern is that they might be irritating. I add Vanilla sugar, though. The one used for cooking. I add it, it melts and blends well with oils and butters and leaves a nice vanilla sweet scent.In my last DIY I added a little bit of red L'Oreal lipstick that I rarely use due to the bad texture of lipstick.I enjoyed watching this video, thanks!

  • @ramyzhang
    @ramyzhang 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't microwave it, because the heat isn't regular. Microwaves kinda heat stuff in little bursts of heat, so it might burn all the butters and oils and such. And, well, about the dangers of using a double boiler... just ask parents for help :)

      I've made it a few times and it's basically the same consistency as a typical Chapstick but a little bit softer. You can also make it harder or softer by adding more or less of the beeswax.

    a year ago or so I tried pure 100% cinnamon oil on my lips after somebody recommended it as an cheap alternative to lip venom. It worked better than any commercially produced lip venom I've ever tried. After watching this I made my own balm using just cinnamon oil and wax. It doesn't have that much pluming potency now but it still makes my lips look and taste great. Basically I apply cinnamon oil before living the house and maintain pluming the effect for longer by using the balm Thank you!

  • @knitnpaint
    @knitnpaint 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just get some peppermint oil and use the virgin organic coconut oil. It is already pretty solid. If you live in a cold climate you might not even need to add wax. You can add shea butter, which is also quite firm at lower temperatures. You can make a balm with just those ingredients and it will work fine. It will melt at higher temps unless you add beeswax. Castor oil will add gloss.

    I have tried this before, using petroleum jelly or Vaseline..and the results were almost like a smoothie. Beeswax helps give the product a figure..but I believe you can use any other waxes that are safe for your lips. For example if there wasn't any wax in a candle..it would look like liquid. This just gives body to the lip balm. I hope this helped. :)

    Great video. I'm not vegan, but I think it's really considerate and awesome that you added other options for them...I don't think a lot of TH-camrs include that in their recipe videos. Anyway, I was wondering what other kind of oils I can use. I've never heard of Kukui nut oil and I'm not sure where to get it. I have argan oil though. Would that be an okay substitute?

    Do you have a crock pot? You can get some of those crock pot liners and heat up all your ingredients inside that as an alternative to the double boiler method. I made my Lush-type massage bars that way and it turned out great. I will have to try your lip balm recipe also! LOVE the new hair. It looks natural and beachy. xo thanks for the videos!

    Loved it, but I would have loved to see you apply it,to,see how sheer the color is. What about OCC lip tars can those be used as colors? I am definitely trying this recipe. Please keep them coming, I do love and appreciate the effort you put into your videos.

    @scj462...I agree with you...I would replace the Revlon lipstick with a natural alternative for tint...my lips are super sensitive to non-natural ingredients so this is perfect for me without the commercial grade lipstick tint...thanks Christine!

    Loved it loved it..& it makes it more lush to pull out a product you've made yourself with whatever sent/flavour instead of on massive companies who just as you fall in love with something its discontinued! XXX

    Citrus oils can be phototoxic to the skin if they are not steam distilled!! I found this out a while ago since I adored using Bergamot essentail oil. In sunlight they can irritate the skin and even discolor it!

    Would it mess anything up if I doubled/tripled the recipe to make more at one time?

    Hi Christine, thanks for your very informative video, enjoying it, just want to ask if we can use natural colour instead of coloured lipstick. If we can, what is your suggestion for that? Thanks

    i like how when u cut the lipstick to put it in the bowl u cut it in an angle so u can use it without cutting an angle again after u cut it straight down like other tuturials do if u know what i mean.

    Can you give us an estimate on how much you spend on the ingredients? The only reason I can think of making my own is if its better for my lips vs. the ones we buy from stores. :)

    Brilliant, as always. Please show how you label them. I always struggle to label my oil mixes and my diy spa products - nothing looks good. Also, I could not find video on diy face mists. If you do them, could you share it with us please?

    Using a commercial lipstick defeats the point in making a "healthy lip balm" with the crap they put in there products it negates all the healthy ingredients you used:(

    How long before these go bad, Christine? Do you have to store them in the fridge or anything?

  • @EmpressMaiyume
    @EmpressMaiyume 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    So when we've put them in the molds, we just let it set? Don't have to be refrigerated or anything, right? It's a really cute idea, I'm going to have to try this soon! ^^

    Hi Christine! Loved the video. I was wanting to know where you get your Vitamin E at? I can't see the brand of it in the video to be able to look it up. Can you use the Vitamin E that you find in the vitamin isle at Walmart? Can't wait to try your recipe! Thank you!
