I feel honoured to be the first to share one of my own recipes and so happy that Cathy and Soaping 101 did this video to share with everybody. I have learnt from the best of the best in this group and look how far I have come today. Now I sell my products in not 1 but 2 shops in my local area so I am so very thankful to each and every one of you here in this group. cheers Elly Baba's Treasures from Sydney Australia.
awesome! thanks to you and soaping 101. you guys are great. I can't wait to try...I love to experiment. ..I may end up putting my own twist on it ;-) thanks so much!
+Elly Grimmett I tried it...and I have to say a big thanks to you Ms. elly!!! I used evening primrose oil since either didn't have any almond Oil on hand. (my vit e oil that I use has extra oils in it...so I used that too...I'm am oil fanatic haha). turned out wonderful. I can feel the difference between store bought and homemade....I usually just do soap and bath scrubs...but i gotta step into the whole homemade making world ;-)
I once tried glycerin, suggested by my dermatologist. BAD idea. It wouldn't incorporate, of course, so I had to scrap a whole batch of salve bcs of course glycerine is an ether, not an oil & honey is a water base, which isn't an oil either, so you can't blend either of those into your lip balms. Just skip them all. Use oils, 2/3 of them hard oils, w/ a wax, and castor at least 10% of the entire formula. It does WONDERS for your lips, & 5% of Vit E as well. My GROWN kids love my salves in humid & cold weather climes both, & those 2 ingredients are never missing. I do recommend Nature's Bounty Vitamin E w/ limonene oil. It's barely noticeable, but it's not only edible but good in your skin as well. Makes wounds heal faster, & you can take it as drops in your food. I but it & gift it to my kids, as well as use it in my sauces & my cereal.
the consistency of this lip balm is awesome! I just can't seen to get the honey incorporated in the mix so the last 2 tubes are runny honey.. Maybe using a stick blender will resolve that, but by and far, a great lip balm. Thanks!
Honey is water soluble....how do you manage for the honey to fully incorporate with the oils? when I add honey to my balms, the honey sinks to the bottom as I am pouring the lip balm and I end up with a bunch of balms with mostly honey.
+Moonlight Radiance Artisan Soaps Market The key is to keep the amount of honey to a minimum. blend well and pour once it has cooled a bit. This recipe was not on created by Soaping101 so I can only answer in generalities about what works for me.

soaping101 I know it's an older video, but perhaps you'll be kind to answer. As you were pouring, there was a darker liquid at the bottom of the melting pot. Wasn't that the honey? If so, hasn't the honey trapped the vitamin e?
This is a fantastic tutorial! I followed everything step by step, however I keep running into one particular issue; the honey doesn't dry and mold as fast as the other ingredients. It melts to the bottom. It gets real sticky and gooey towards the bottom. It's a little frustrating :-/.
chocoholly don’t use honey. This recipe is created by someone who has no basic understanding of cosmetic making. Honey is water soluable. If I were you I would restart by making a new batch without honey, as your lip balm has water introduced, and now contaminated. Make it without honey.
Soaping 101 has thought me a lot and i love this channel. But unfortunately i think this recipe is incomplete or mixed up. It should either have a emulsifier or should not have honey in it. I tired it and did everything but, as we all know oil and water dont mix. My honey stayed separated from the wax and oils, BUT it is not a total waste of materials as the very basic lip balm is simply coconut oil and bee wax. it is only irritating that the honey can be seen sitting like a sad child at the bottom of the container.
Because the honey is water doluble and wont mix with the oils , basic science . Now the lip balm has been exposed to water (honey) , it may develop bacteria . If you do wanna add honey you beed to add an emulsifier and a preservative , otherwise just skip honey or its equivalent.
Hi, thanks for the recipe . Will this not solidify as being fed by pipettes into the cases ?Further should Beeswax component to be increased in hot weather ,where temperature sores to 40 deg C plus outside and 32 deg C approx. Inside room temperature.
Thank you so much for the recipe and tutorial. I made this today and while everything seemed to go smoothly I think I may have done something wrong. The result is a bit greasy, could I have used too much coconut oil? Is there a way to lessen the greasiness? TIA
+Dora S not really. Im a nurse so to give medication i cant use a kitchen spoon for a tablespoon its not the same measurement. I also bake alot so a regular kitchen spoon of flour isnt the same as an actual measuring spoon filled with flour. Its actually way better to measure by weight.
I have a lot of roller balls, can I exchange the beeswax with aloe vera or? I have aloe vera gel so was wanted to incorporate it in a roller ball recipe. any suggestions on recipe amounts? love the videos!
Ok I was wondering about other oils that I could use for the hardness of it, instead of using coconut oil, do you think coconut butter would work well and was gonna use a sunflower base oil instead of almond oil. Just curious, haven't experimented making chapsticks but wanted to make a good solid one but with a very sleek feel. My Grandmother made all these types of products back in the 60's and 70's and I'd like to try it out see how I do.OH and also wanting to ask what would be a good pigment or coloring product you would recommend for coloring lip balms? My daughter makes slimes and she uses pigments but wasn't sure on it considering it's used for handling, wanted something natural like a plant base color.
Honey sank to bottom for me too. I reheated just to try to make sure it was all mixed well. As the container was cooling, honey sank to the bottom. I will skip honey next time.

Hi angel, I don't know how to thank you... Yes I do , THAANNKKK YYYOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'v e always wanted to make lip balms , and I have a farmers market booth, my question is where do I get the containers and the lables + little cute boxes for it? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge without fear, knowing that there is more than enough for all of us!!!!
Hi there! You can get lip balm tube, tins etc from almost all the soap suppliers, I ordered some really cheap from a company here in canada. Also, amazon is a good place to find them. Most places who sell the tubes also sell the shrink bands for them :)
How long is the shelf life? I want to make for kids but concerned about shelf life or storing because of the honey. also in a tube or a container, does it tend to melt and leak? parents will be angry if they get grease on their clothes. could you use pyre Vanilla extract or will it spoil? tx for yhe share. Great recipe.

Love this recipe! however the honey did not work for me (substituted honey comb) the wax melted but not the honey. I just poured it off as the honey sunk. I sweetened with Stevia. beautiful consistancy and feels great.
All InOne If you're using raw shea butter maybe you should melt it separately and strain it through a coffee filter or a disposable tea bag. Sometimes there can be small trace amounts of grit or debris in the raw shea butter. I use raw shea butter to make my own body butter and I notice if I don't do this, sometimes at the end of a batch I'll encounter a little bit of grit.
I Tried this recipe with the honey and no matter how much I stirred, the honey never incorporated. It just kept settling to the bottom. I will be leaving the Honey out. neat Idea though.
Hi. I’m your big fan & learnt a lot from u. Kindly mention ingredients qty into % or grams or ounces especially if u r teaching skin care formulation. Thanknu for your understanding.
Use less honey. I haven't had a problem with good local honey. Try putting it in sooner not at the end. Yes you need more bees wax in warmer months. I wouldn't worry about a shelf life with bees wax and honey but that's just my opinion

This recipe is not very good. You should never have any kind of water such as honey in oil only based formula such as lip balm. If you ever want to use emulsifier, you need strong preservative (not GSE or anything natural), in which case it will be a cream not balm. This recipe is developed by someone who doesn’t know what she’s doing.. As you’re making it, you can even see the honey sinks to the bottom, along with what it looks like vitamin E oil? Because you didn’t really stir first and blend with other oils.. Honey is totally unnecessary and it would cause mold for sure.
I tried this and it didn't work. I added vitamin E at the end and honey separated and was sitting at the bottom. Sticks came out toooo soft, more like body butter. I understand that honey is water based, but your didn't mention any emulsifier added. So, how did your honey combined with oils?

How Do you get the Honey to incorporate? I love the recipe though
Stir it in while it is still hot...

Elastic band trick - GENIUS!!
I can't wait to give this recipe a try! Thank you Elly and Cathy for making this video happen!
if tops sink you can go over them with a heat gun lightly carefully to smooth them out or even a hirdryer if you dont have a heat gun
I just harvested my first batch of honey so I will have my own honey and bees wax to use when making these.
+patti mincher now you just need an oil well and a plastics manufacturing plant and you will good to go?
Hey thank you for this great recipe of lip balm
My pleasure 😊
i actually made this lip balm and everyone loved it . Thanks for sharing
So glad to see you have a lip balm recipe on your wonderful channel. I was searching for one I can trust, and now I know I’ve found it...!
Thank you Elly Baba and thank you Soaping 101!!!!

Thank you so much, your videos are so relaxing and informative , I enjoy them so much. Thanks Ellie also
Tue trick is to use a high shear mixer. otherwise it will seperate or use honey powder. or crystallised honey
Thank you. For help with soaping. Because of you I love making soap

If there is honey.. dont u need a preservative??
That looks a lovely recipie & that is a very good tip holding them together with a laccy band. 😊
That is so nice for someone to share a great recipe . Thank you : D
Thank u for the video. I haven't made lips balms in like forever. Need to get back at it!
+Lisa Romero My pleasure.

That was my thought as well....

Couldn't powdered raw brown sugar be used as a substitute for honey? Are there any foreseeable problems with that?
Thanks for sharing Elly and I love the video Cathy!
thank you for sharing. I can't wait to try it.
Thanks Cathy Soaping101
and Elly Baba's for sharing and demonstrating on how to. ;-)
Thankyou so much! I'm gonna give this a try!
Can e-wax replace the beeswax as a cheap vegan alternative for lip balm tubes?
Skylightatdusk i think we can use e-wax bcoz it can help mixing the hony into the oil portion
E wax is an emulsifier and not a true wax and definitely not a substitute for beeswax.
If you want a vegan wax , try carnauba or candelilla
How to replace honey in this recipe?
Can you skip the honey?
I will use vegetable glycerin instead of honey when I make mine.
Great Recipe!! Thanks to Elly and thanks to you for sharing!! :)
Am I the only one who thinks the small chocolate melter is the best thing to make this? I love the idea
This is a fantastic tutorial! I followed everything step by step, however I keep running into one particular issue; the honey doesn't dry and mold as fast as the other ingredients. It melts to the bottom. It gets real sticky and gooey towards the bottom. It's a little frustrating :-/.
Can i use Paraffin wax instead of beeswax because it isn't available here in Egypt?
Thank you so much for sharing
My honey separated in the setting process & it was exactly as you did!
I am going to melt it down again
but any tips? Thanks
Holly
chocoholly don’t use honey. This recipe is created by someone who has no basic understanding of cosmetic making. Honey is water soluable. If I were you I would restart by making a new batch without honey, as your lip balm has water introduced, and now contaminated. Make it without honey.
how will this hold up to temps? would it melt in a pocket?
Thank you.....even though I made lip balm several times your vid helped me.

is there any alternatives to coconut oil

Wont adding the Shea butter in that early result in a grainy texture?
+ThePoojaJosh Not if you temper it correctly.
if I want these ingredient in grams what do I do? sorry I am so bad at math. thanks
+Nathalie Breault you don't have spoons???
+Nathalie Breault 1 tablespoon is approximately 15 grams
+Dora S not every spoon holds the same amount
***** but if you use the same spoon for everything then you're fine. It's like making cocktails 1 part this 2 parts that. Its the same 'part'.
+Dora S not really. Im a nurse so to give medication i cant use a kitchen spoon for a tablespoon its not the same measurement. I also bake alot so a regular kitchen spoon of flour isnt the same as an actual measuring spoon filled with flour. Its actually way better to measure by weight.
iv learnt that using a medicine syringe also helps with filling tubes
It does but it wastes time and the was hardens many times during it
and I love your recipe very much!!
Thanks for a great video :)
Quick question :- what the shelf life of this lip balm??
curious which FO did you used for the taste
How do you keep the honey in suspension? When I tried using it before no matter how much I stirred, it ended up separating later.
+bigsouth779 Maybe I used too much?
I have a lot of roller balls, can I exchange the beeswax with aloe vera or? I have aloe vera gel so was wanted to incorporate it in a roller ball recipe. any suggestions on recipe amounts? love the videos!
Can we sub Castor for the SAO ? I love the shine that Castor brings to lip balm :)

What kind of bees wax do you use
+Laura West 100% Raw honey
+Laura West 100% Beeswax pestilles
Wonderful tutorial; how great when the best of the best share for the benefit of others. Thank you.
Has you lip balms ever cracked after making them?
@@kiwigirlNZ ok
Did you use 3 tbsp of coconut oil? I would like to make these. What did you find to be the best consistency?
She only used 1 tbsp in this video.
