Hey Joel! I’m in Iceland with my wife and learned so much from your video. The details you provided are not easily accessible through other online information. Thank you your video, it’s very accurate for what I should have expected.
Super helpful video! Love that you included your favorite places to camp as well as practical things like shopping and doing dishes. Thank you for taking the time to make this video while you were on vacation. Will help others looking to rent a van or simply just traveling to Iceland.
Hey Joel! Thank you for this very informative breakdown about travelling Iceland. My girlfriend and I are going in October and this has been hugely helpful! We hope to be as cool as you and your wife one day!
Good video. Just got back from renting a camper van for a week. When I did the math you could rent a car and stay in AirBNBs for less than the camper van. If we were to ever go again I would do that instead of the camper van. However, I don't think we'll go back.
I think you are right. But the van gave us more flexibility and room to explore, and change our itinerary as needed. We got to see the volacano erupting, but would have had to skip it if we had to get somewhere for a reservation.
@@freddieshermanpuff hello, my trip was epic and it is something I will never forget. I was vancamping but felt really safe along the way. My tip for you is pay attention to the weather alert. The only time I felt scared was when I did not pay attention to the blizzard alert in the NE part and kept driving anyways. It was my fault for not thinking more about it since I have no idea was blizzard conditions are really about. And in Iceland, its no joke. I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip. I will definitely go back.
Great video and informative. One pointer: in Iceland we use the comma as the decimal denominator, so 1.500 krona is onethousandfivehundred. 1,50 is one krona and 50 aur(cents). So your camp-sites cost 1500 krona, and not 1 point 5.
Very helpful video. Did you have any issues with the van return? in terms of scratches, gravel marks and so forth that are not covered in the basic insurence? The camptercan prices are not cheap and when you add the full waiver it gets very high...
Hi...we had no issues on the return. And just had basic insurance. A little risky, but the insurance add ons are sky high. Still, the van is not a cheap vacation or much cheaper than renting rooms, but way more fun.
Thank you, this was full of great information!!! My wife and I are thinking about going in June. Like you, I also depend on a CPAP. Did you say you brought or bought the portable power station inverter thing? I have one I’ve used camping in the states but I believe the maximum battery you can fly with is 100 wh. Mine is 177 wh. Just wondering if you flew with yours or purchased it in Iceland. Thanks!!!
Glad it was helpful! I wasn't aware of their restriction and just brought it from the US. Nobody said anything about it. Of course it was in my carry on.
Ok thanks! Interesting. Much appreciated. I may go ahead and stop by my local airport and chat with the TSA. If I learn something, I will report back. Thanks again!! :)
Thank you for the great content, helped a lot in our planing. Just a question, the termic isolation and heather can keep the van in a good temperature? Whe will go in the winter, december. Thank you again for the very helpful video, best regards from Brazil
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and sort of a dues and don’ts list. I am curious about a few things we are traveling there in September of this year and are curious about several things it looks like your trip was about 14 days which is what ours is as well. We are doing the Ring Road and veering off occasionally on different side roads to see different things but not visiting the western fjords this year. I see that you brought a blowup mattress I am curious why were you afraid that the bedding was not going to be comfortable enough. I to have a CPAP and saw that you brought a back up battery as opposed to using the battery in the camper. Did you find that was helpful or would you been all right without having to have brought it?
To answer your questions, we’ve use those air mattresses for backpacking and find them very comfortable. We already owned them and they don’t weigh much so we brought them along. We just wanted to be comfortable. We were glad we brought them. The battery in the van could not be used unless the van was running, I suspect about the case for most vans so I had to have that battery back up.
Regarding the CPAP - all/most camp-sites offer electricity hookup as an extra charge. Averages at about USD10 per day. If you have a humidifier the local tap-water is perfectly fine. Since you are traveling in September the electric hookup might be neccessary to run an electric heater overnight.
Thanks for the helpful information! Do you think the sleeping pad was necessary? I'm renting a similar van and can't decide whether to bring mine or not.
Hello Joe, did you feel the need to keep the van doors closed because of the mosquitoes or insects when you were parked and cooking etc? Btw very helpful video, we are gearing up for our trip next month.
I’m curious why people are fascinated by the area… seems very gloomy, cold, expensive and moody from every video I’ve seen of the place. What is so special?

I’m doing a solo camper van trip in 5 weeks. Thanks for your insights.

Do NOT take the Taxis from the airport, they are about $150 to Reykjavik -- take the direct coach buses which are $15
Good info. Depends on your budget.
Hi, great video, watched till the end. May i ask which volcano was it at the end? And how long did it take to hike to be able to see the volcano?
There is another video I made about all of that.
Great video! Thank you for sharing. What time of the year did you go? 😊
Thank you. August.

Thanks for the helpful video. One question: where did you store your suitcases? I didn’t see them.
We had duffle bags under the seat accessed from the back door. They collapse but have wheels.

Yes, absolutely. The heater will be adequate in the way winter.

For us it was necessary. We would not have slept well enough b the seat cushions.
@@Earth_Chi_Art thanks for your input! I'm packing my mat now ☺
Could you please tell the cost for showering and using toilets at the campground?
Toilets come with the cost of the campground which is around $15 US pp. Showers run around $2-$3 mostly using coins.
R there bus at airport to drive around island for one peraon to join
I doubt it.
What about ventilation inside the van? Sleeping and expiring, then the fumes when cooking with that stove. Is there any ventilation?
I don’t believe they had a fan in there. But we would open the door or open the window when we’re cooking.
When was this? How’s it so cheap???
It was summer of 23. I don't think it was cheap at all.
Does the camper have wifi ?
It's in the video, but you can rent a hotspot for $15 per day.
One person i think is not easy rent and drive
One person could do it.
@@Earth_Chi_Art cars have gps and map of points of interest?
