My favorite time of year in my GARDEN is SPRING when the dewdrops sparkle like CRYSTALS and the RED flowers touch my heart! I just found you....what a blessing you are to this wonderful world of fiber arts!
Your enthusiasm for sparkle and bling in your projects and finishing actually makes me giddy with each of your flosstube episodes. I have never worked with silk threads and am very much looking forward to receiving my kit. Like your finishes a garden in spring sparkles with crystal in vibrant colors such as red after a gentle rain.
Thank you so much, I'm truly flattered! I hope you'll love stitching Winter as much as I did, it's such a fun project and the silks are truly beautiful. And good luck!!
On the these beautiful Crystal clear days, I've loved pouring through your amazing videos. I especially have enjoyed your love of that incredible rich red in so many projects.
Thanks for your wonderful and inspiring videos. As a librarian and lover of English literature, I appreciate the literary and historic context of your beautiful surface embroidery. As a girl I learned to stitch at a summer camp at Woodlawn in Alexandria, VA, and years later I was married there in the spring. I recently revisited their beautiful grounds and found much embroidery inspiration in the gardens.
What a lovely story! I've heard a lot about Woodlawn but never been there. And love that you are a librarian - such a wonderful job. I more or less lived at our local public library as a child, it was my happy place.
Another very enjoyable Flosstube Katie. I love to see your eyes light up with such passion when you show us your beautiful bling. Red and the Crystal are my favorite but then again I love all your work. Ever time I see your work I just want to stitch all the things.🤩🤩
Katie, your work is just exquisite. I have learned so much about silks from you and find myself wanting to work with them exclusively. I love a garden in the spring, but couldn’t do much with mine this year as I was recuperating after foot surgery. Thanks for your video and congratulations on 3K! Red and crystal is a good way to celebrate.
Thank you! Silk is addictive, there's something about the shine and really smooth stitching experience that is just wonderful. Au Ver a Soie grabbed me and I never wanted to go back after that. And it might be an entry, but I feel you - mine has been suffering after a knee injury and subsequent surgery. Not to mention our drought!
Hi Brenda - You are the winner of one of the crystal fobs! Please contact me via DM on Instagram, @kstrachanembroidery, or using the form here: katie-strachan.com/contact so I can mail this to you.
The garden colors in the counting pins are beautiful. You can't go wrong with the red and crystal bling for the scissor fobs. I really enjoy seeing your embroidery and hearing about your thought process as you work on each piece.
Thank you so much! And I'm glad that you like hearing about the how and why, sometimes I do wonder if I'm babbling about something that's only interesting to me!!!
Thank you for sharing all those beautiful projects. I like spring with all those crystal crisp mornings that makes your cheeks red after a morning walk.
Your finishes are all beautiful. The finished box panel turned out wonderfully. And your red ornaments look great. The coffee coloured fabric and blindy spiral beads look amazing together. I look forward to seeing that come to life once you start stitching that pattern. Meanwhile, I'm happy that the layer of crystal frost on the windows from winter days is long past, that spring arrived in the garden with its promise of hope, and that the red cardinals now flit happily from branch to branch singing their happy songs. Have a good few weeks, hope you feel better.
Beautifully done, good luck! And thank you - I can't wait to get started on autumn stitching with all the beautiful colors, fabulous linen, and most important of all - bling!!!
Oh goodness, that fabric you made your project lining is so gorgeous. You are so inspiring with all, your needlework and the finishing ❤️ the round ornament with the deer is my fav.
Thank you! Strawberry Thief really works in that really vivid colorway, it's a lovely fabric. And agreed, the round is a good one - Jacob is such a talented designer. It's delicate but detailed, such a lovely combination.
Katie, your eye for color and how it works is truly amazing. I believe that is one reason I always stitched with the colors given in a chart. I definitely need to experiment. I think the small saltbox you stitched up needs no bling. The colors and that blue fabric are striking. My spring garden includes red flowers with dew that sparkles like crystal. It would be nice to stitch them up for permanent enjoyment. Happy stitching and may your sparkle be plentiful.
Thank you! It can definitely be learned, it's about developing your eye, and experimenting. I'm pretty good with color but I did have to change some of my initial thread picks on Druid Blue, because I really do learn something new every time I stitch, some small wrinkle or unexpected effect. Color is not a fixed point, which makes it both exasperating and inspiring - there's always something new to discover or learn. And good luck! What a beautiful sendoff - may your sparkle be plentiful, I might have to steal that!
Your videos are so inspiring. I keep running the mantra ' one stitch at a time' as at times I question myself being very new to hand needlework. We are in the middle of winter here in the southern hemisphere so I'm very much looking forward to walking in my spring garden with the red roses shining like crystals after a gentle shower of rain. My city, Toowoomba, has it's world famous 'Carnival of Flowers' every September where the entire city is a riot of colours. Every resident makes an effort whether a full garden in the best garden comp or potted plants in the windows of a flat. Much better than the drab colours at the moment. Bring on spring! Ps no bling on saltbox stitch please.
Thank you! And one stitch at a time is absolutely the right mindset. No matter how much experience and skill you build, you are always only ever stitching one stitch at a time. I have yet to develop the magical ability to do multiple stitches at once! Confidence or lack thereof can really hold you back, try not to let it - I learned by doing and I fully believe that you learn as much from your failures as your successes. Sometimes much more from the failures. I had to look up the Carnival of Flowers - wow! That must be absolutely spectacular, how special to see it every year.
Katie you inspire me! Our garden is booming with red Roma tomatoes this season! Our honeycomb in the beehives glisten like crystal in the summer sunshine. We are hobby farmers and enjoy living off the land. Have a wonderful week!
Another EXCITING video spotlighting wonderful stitching projects on new linen colors and more. Yes, pink for your lid lining fabric. Yes, beaded trim on Winter Saltboxes! No words for your artistic casket panel & frieze. Just Gorgeous! I would love to start Autumn stitching anytime. I am still waiting for a few silks for Blueskin, so I have a lot of catching up to do due to supply chain issues with retailers. For me, that is the ONE reason your Flosstube kits are a real blessing. There are too many to list here. Love all that you do💞 Almost forgot to vote on wrapped purl trim. I like the scalloped look on the snowflake ornament best. I love to garden!
Thank you so much! A casket was a completely separate project - the girl would purchase fabric with the design already drawn on it by a professional, and then stitch it in. Very paint by numbers, and they were never counted. Counted stitches could be used - there are needlepoint caskets - but they weren't done by counting, but filling in the drawn spaces. But I think it's very revealing that a sampler was the only special needlework education undertaken before attempting a casket - they just jumped right in on these huge projects. And yes, supply chains are a definite challenge - I have to get the threads ordered for autumn this week so that I can offer a seasonal stitch in a timely fashion! But you'll be able to work more and more from stash as you go on, because I repeat colors a great deal, and that will help. Unfortunately there are bottlenecks at every stage of the supply chain so it's brutal on everyone.
I so enjoy your work. Magnificent workmanship combined with such a great color sense. I think your house ornament looks great as is, but I'm sure you'll make a great call on it. I am interested in spring, garden, red and white.
Thank you so much! Color is such a wonderful challenge - it's not fixed, color is always affected by the colors around it, light, our perception etc etc - so there's always something new to learn and explore. It keeps things interesting!
Another wonder-filled video, Katie, thank you so much! Both the ornaments are delightful, it is too difficult to choose a favorite! Love your Blue Druid fabric ornament too! Project bag is swoon-worthy! What a pleasure each time you open it to see THAT glorious William Morris in such a vivid colorway (althoughI love all the colorways of this fabric!!) So glad many more are coming to appreciate and enjoy your channel. Take good care of your dear self! Red. Crystal.
Thank you so much! And yes, there's nothing like a lovely surprise anytime you open a box or a bag, I can't resist a good contrast lining. Funny, that particular Strawberry Thief has been sitting in my stash for over a decade, I'd always pick other colorways as that one was so outrageously bright - apparently it was just waiting for the right project!
Love it, and good luck! I'm inclined to agree on no bling - there are arguments both way but my tree certainly isn't lacking in bling, restraint might be called for here.
Every Spring I search my Garden for a Red Crystal. I will continue until I find one, but until then I will have to contend with the many birds that come to visit and snack, which I have to say is a much bigger treasure. I'm so looking forward to seeing what you're working on and of course seeing your mom in a future podcast. Cheers
My flower garden has been plagued by extreme heat, and my petunias need a little spring in their petals. Love your videos. You are such a talented young lady. I also loved your red and crystal fobs and they would be a treasure to own.
Hi Cathy - you are the winner of the red crystal fob! Please contact me via DM on Instagram, @kstrachanembroidery, or using the form here: katie-strachan.com/contact so I can mail this to you.
Challenge accepted, lol: Beautiful red roses in a spring garden on a crystal clear morning are a sight to see. I think I would lean toward the pink background for the sewing box and I’m definitely in favor of leaving the salt box ornament plain. Thanks for the wonderful kit you put together, I received a shipping notification today and I can’t wait!
Beautifully done, and good luck! I do really like the idea of a pink lining but we'll see what I can dig up at Britex. I hope you'll enjoy Winter, it is a lovely, lovely stitch!
I’m enjoying seasons of the Heart. I haven’t thought of using crystals or bling on those finishes. The slick thread is beautiful. I’m excited about making all seasons into pillows and may do them twice. I’m sure those silks are even more beautiful in person on the spring piece. August is my one year Flosstube anniversary too. Congratulations.
It's a great series, isn't it? And definitely give the beads a try, it's both sparkly and detailed, such a lovely edging. And congratulations on your upcoming flossiversary!
I love all your finishes! So inspiring! The red crystal trims are stunning, And there is no greater inspiration for silk thread palettes than the Garden in the Spring.
Hi Katie, congratulations on your finish of your Britimar casket piece. Spring is my favorite season, I love to see the first flowers bloom in my garden. When your mom joins you in your flosstube episode, I would like to know if you enjoy gardening and if that has any influence on your choices of colors in your stitching or fabrics that you work with to make decorative pieces for your homes or clothing. My favorite red ornament that you have done is still the tear drop one as the red is the brightest and cheerful. I like the new crystal shape that you will be using to trim your new pillow finish.
Thank you! And I agree, it's such a magical time of year when the trees are leafing out and everything is starting to come alive. The early season color in my maple trees is just unbeatable. And yes, the teardrop ornament is a winner! The red is Gobelins 779, which not only goes perfectly with the crystal color light siam, it's such a stunning bright red.
Hi Cheryl - you are the winner of one of the crystal fobs! Please contact me via DM on Instagram, @kstrachanembroidery, or using the form here: katie-strachan.com/contact so I can mail this to you.
Once again you have inspired with your creations. Love spending time in my spring garden with thoughts of red plum tomatoes glistening with crystal dew in the morning summer months.
Hi Katie the sparkling red moon made my spring garden glisten like bright crystals in the night. Love the special things that you are gifting this week. Thanks for the video and I prefer the purl 2 scallops. It reminds me of the old fashioned tatting edge effects
Hi Katie, thank you for another feast for the eyes and imagination video! As far as I’m concerned any time is a good time for a fall stitch, it’s my favorite season. Congratulations 🎉 on 3K subscribers your red and crystal fobs are delightful! Oh on the salt box…bling, always bling. 🤗
It is a wonderful season, isn't it? I love jacket weather and cooler temperatures. And a vote for bling, I love it! The majority so far is for no bling. It does cut sorely against the grain, sparkles are so fun.
Congratulations on crossing the 3,000 viewer threshold! We are very lucky to have access to you expertise. Watching your channel is like a walk in a spring garden filled with filled with shimmering crystal and luscious red posies.
I just found you yesterday and I’m trying to watch all your floss tubes. I love how you are converting all the threads to silks. I just wish there was a way for those of us who are late to the party as they say, could get a copy of the conversions for the pieces you’ve stitched.
Welcome, I'm so glad you found my channel! There are tons of silk conversions in the episode descriptions from about episode 9 onwards. Only 3 were kit only and retired, The Rabbit and the Rose and Seasons of the Heart Fall and Winter. Summer and Spring are posted in episode descriptions, as are a wide variety of holiday stitches and some other seasonal pieces. You can order the threads from the LNS of your choice - I recommend Needle in a Haystack in Alameda CA as they're my local, but you absolutely can get the conversions and use them for almost everything I've stitched. Enjoy!
Great video, as always! You’re such an inspiration. I imagine Marie Antoinette sparkling in her garden in spring in a white crystal dress but I can’t picture her in a red one. Thanks for your videos, I love them.
Thank you for such informational videos. I think the winter salt box is perfect as is. The choice of fabric is beautiful and extra bling might distract from the stitching. Your red and crystal fobs are beautiful too.
In a spring garden you would be hard pressed to find a red crystal dahlia. I truly enjoy your beaded finishes as I do know several techniques for beaded ropes. I love how you’re bringing to light different needlework techniques such as stump work and embroidery. 25 years ago I had a shop and I did carry all of the Au Ver A Soie line as well as metal threads, and at that time I was also learning about beading. One important lesson for me was not to use fishing line to attach beads to a finish as the line degenerates over years and eventually your beads simply pop off LOL
Well done, and good luck! Your shop sounds like it was lovely - I wasn't stitching at that time but I did do some beading (young girl, beaded bracelets were A Thing and I wore stacks of them). I learned the fishing line thing the hard way, it was all the rage as a technique around that time and I had a few bracelets pop apart while I was wearing them... Definitely better to stick with the tried and trusted threads!!!
Hi Angela - You are the winner of the Lady Isabelle's Garden counting pins! Please contact me via DM on Instagram, @kstrachanembroidery, or using the form here: katie-strachan.com/contact so I can mail this to you.
Can you image walking through a crystal garden. I love bling and think it should be on very thing, LOL. I hope to experience the silks someday; all in good time. Once again, soooooo enjoyed your video and the inspiration you leave me with. It is very exciting knowing we will get to meet your mom.
Love all of your finishes. Your beading work is just beautiful. I’m going to try to use beads on one of my finishes. The crystal snow and red holly berries are a sharp contrast to the green ferns and yellow daffodils of a spring garden.
Thank you so much! Definitely give it a try, I have multiple tutorials up with different variations you can try - it's not difficult and it can add so much to your finishes. It's a whole new world! And I love your entry - good luck!
The flower I love the best in my spring garden is the tulip. I wish I had many more varieties. I love red or crystal. Congratulations on reaching 3K subscribers. You are a master of fancy finishes. I love watching your videos. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you! A beautiful choice - I've been to the Netherlands in tulip season and it is extraordinary with all the different colors and types. And good luck!
Your videos are amazing! I discovered you about a month ago and love everything you do. I love red and crystal in a spring garden and can't wait to get started with silk threads. I already work with beads but I'm a novice compared to you. Can't wait to see more... Jo
Oh goodness - your panel for the casket is simply gorgeous - I can't wait to actually see you open the lid with it in situ :) I stitched the Spring & Summer Seasons of the Heart with all called for threads and linen and love them so - but I do think your clean silk finishes take it to another level! I am intrigued because I love embroidery (The Stitchery - Nicki Franklin UK) and cross stitch and have loved the matt cotton look on vintage linen until now.... should I invest in silks for the first time for Dutch Rose Garden for September this year?! :)
Thank you so much! No idea when I will actually have a full finish on my casket but I'm getting there. And the answer to 'should I invest in silks' is always a yes! Not only is it beautiful, I think it's a really smooth and pleasant stitching experience that makes it more enjoyable. Great process, great result!
I love walking through a Spring garden in the early morning, as the dew drops sit like tiny crystals on the red petals on a newly open tulip😊 Katie to you sleep? You are so prolific, I cannot believe what you get stitched by each new FlossTube!! Your casket panel is amazing !! The pink lining on your box would be lovely, I think a beautiful pale green would be as well . Looking forward to meeting your mom on an up coming episode!!
Beautifully done, and good luck! And I do sleep, just not as many hours as I would like! But I'm a fast stitcher thanks to very good eyesight. That's really the problem with the box - too many choices! They'd all look good.
Hi Sherry - you are the winner of the Lady Isabelle's Garden counting pins! Please contact me via DM on Instagram, @kstrachanembroidery, or using the form here: katie-strachan.com/contact so I can mail this to you.
Oh dear, sorry, got my winners mixed up! You did win counting pins, but the Spring at Woodlawn set. In any event, please contact me to claim your prize!
I am afraid I would like to see the Saltbox with a bit of bling. There is nothing more lovely than a red rose in the garden with droplets of crystal water sparkling in the sunlight.
There have definitely been votes for bling - I'm still considering it but am unsure what form that would take on something this tiny. Scale is definitely an issue. And good luck!!
I am looking forward to starting The Rabbit and the Rose. I’d love to be able to add a red or crystal accent to my project bag. Thanks for your videos, they are a huge inspiration.
Thank you, I hope you'll enjoy it - the Rabbit and the Rose was a lovely stitch with all the beautiful pale colors. Very different from the bright colors of Winter but no less enjoyable! And yea for project bag bling!
How fun that you asked when we start fall stitching- I just started a fall project! I LOVE your red project bag. Love, love, love your interior fabric choice- when can we preorder a bag? : ) As for the ornament edging, I think the variety in beaded trims you have used will look wonderful on your tree- my favorite is the silk wrapped purl scalloped edge with the beads in-between the scallops! Your Winter Saltbox finish looks perfect as-is, and I like the idea of pink for the interior of the box. Congratulations on your 3k subscribers! I love the crystal beads you used on your red patterns!
Thank you, but never! I'm so rusty with zippers. I've put in so many in the past but haven't done much sewing in recent years as I become more and more devoted to embroidery, so every time I put the zipper foot on I have to sit there for a minute and think 'and now what??' But you can order silk faille from Mood and Liberty has a wonderful website! And thank you, I love trying out all the different edgings - variety on a tree is everything. Definitely not a matchy matchy ornament type!!!
Yay, saltboxes on blue was the one I wanted to see! (I didn't bother guessing though because I just watched that video today; I was on vacation last week.)
Wow another truly inspiring bling related video. I love your style and how delicate and beautiful everything is that you create. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could plant a spring garden of red crystals!
Oh my gosh I love all the different beaded edges you have tried on your various ornaments. They all look so beautiful! I can't wait to see the green versions! I hope you get lots of stitchy time and feel better after the flu! Take care :) My kind of spring garden would be full of red roses covered in crystal dew :P
Thank you, and good luck! I love experimenting, it makes finishing a lot more fun and engaging if you're not doing the same thing all the time. And edgings can add so much to a finish, a good edging can really enhance your stitching.
Thank you again, Katie, for sharing all the lovely stitched items. Have you done a tutorial showing how you are creating the 3 dimensional posies for the inside of your Marie Antoinette box? This is a new technique to me. My spring garden includes some striking royal purple iris and my summer garden includes some beautiful rich red grape tomatoes, a deeper maroon heirloom variety, and a plum tomato which is not the heirloom variety called Red Crystal (which I’d like to try next year).
Unfortunately the posies aren't suitable for a tutorial for 2 reasons - 1. the raw materials aren't available at retail 2. it's way beyond the scope of a tutorial. It's not complicated, but it is fiddly, so it requires actual in person, hands on instruction. Demonstration, checking students' work, and real time troubleshooting. It'll have to remain beautiful eye candy!
@@katiestrachanembroidery Thank you for considering this and explaining, so thoroughly, why a video tutorial wouldn’t work well for this. If you have a recommendation for a class / teacher in the mid-Atlantic region, I’d appreciate it.
What an amazing and inspirational video, I love the video at the end that shows your progress, your work is exquisite. Thank you for the pre order for Seasons of the Heart. Going to order everything tomorrow. The Saltbox on Druid is beautiful and of course you have to have bling! You will find the right bling for it. My Legacy Linen is arriving tomorrow, I can’t wait, I have 3 projects in mind for Irish Coffee, I held off on the Druid. Marie Antoinette pins are lovely. Congratulations on 3k! During the spring, we put our garden in and of course I always have my red crystal bling on! Can’t wait to see what you are stitching on the next video.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the casket video at the end, I think it's cool to see how it builds up bit by bit. And thank you for your order! You'll love Irish Coffee, it is wonderful. I love Druid Blue but it definitely takes more thinking and color work than Irish Coffee, which is a little more versatile. Happy stitching!
I am just blown away by your stitching, finishing ideas and execution, knowledge and creativity. Do you get this from your mother? I am curious where your imagination and creative thought process comes from. Anyways, everything you do is just amazing. You are so talented. A colorful spring garden is such a magical thing to behold after a long dreary winter.
Thank you! Yes and no. She's very crafty, a very skilled seamstress, and she nurtured my creativity, but what I really got from her is fearlessness. I try things because if they go wrong, I just try again, and I'm not afraid to fail. I learned by doing, and I was always ready to jump in and explore new things. And good luck!!
Katie - another amazing episode of Ornamentations. I am especially in love with sparkle so I think the beads on the Winter Saltbox finish would make it exceptional because your finish is already amazing. As you have taught me you can NEVER have too much sparkle on the tree. I am looking forward to receiving my kit for Seasons of the Heart. Yes PINK on the box. I think that will draw out the contrast with the treasures you are adding in the box. By the way red is my favorite color and crystal sparkles so beautifully in the light! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Your stitching and finishes are all beautiful! The slide show of the panel was fascinating. IMO I think the blue ornament looks great plain or perhaps with a small trim rather than beads and my thought was pale pink lining for that gorgeous box. I can’t wait to see the boxes finished. I am inspired to take my stitching up a notch by stitching a spring flower garden and finish it with, you guessed it, a red crystal bead. LOL❣️
Thank you! I'll be ordering the thread as soon as the preorder period closes and hope to have everything out in good time, fingers crossed. And so true, there's no such thing as too much sparkle, it's magical on a tree with the tree lights making the crystals dance. And pink is probably going to be it - it will depend on what I can find, it's possible that the perfect blue fabric is out there waiting but the pinks will be lacking. But the smalls would really pop against a pink lining.
@@djcuzy12 Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the evolution of the casket panel, it does illustrate how a large piece really comes together stitch by stitch, layer by layer. And good luck!
Love all the beading trim’s but vote no on the saltbox, love a more prim look for that one. Working on Winter right now and you have given me great ideas for some changes, thanks!spring. Crystal
Thank you for all that you share! Though I think both are beautiful, the snowflake is my favorite. Your casket panel is just amazing. IMO, no bling on the saltbox. A spring garden will look equally as lovely in winter with red winter berries and crystal snowflakes.
Thank you! And good luck - well done! There are a range of opinions on the Winter Saltbox but I'm inclined to agree - restraint might be called for here...
Thank you for all the information. I've learned so much about finishing watching you Chanel. The garden pins are so pretty. I may have to re-stitch the Seasons of the heart pillows after seeing your finishes.
Thank you, and thank you for watching! Wow that you already stitched all the Seasons, I've only done two - although I can understand the temptation, the silks are absolutely luscious...
Hi Katie. Absolutely love all yr finishes especially the red & white crystal fobs. You are so talented. Was wondering since i’m a newer follower since Spring of yr Flosstube do you garden also? Enjoy yr videos & tutorials so much! So many things to do & so little time!
Thank you, and welcome! As to gardening, not like my mom does! I have a small garden but never have as much time for it as I would like. And mine is much lower maintenance, no roses. I love trees and shrubs for their structure, I have several interesting Japanese maples with spectacular color. Much less work than a rose garden!
Wow!! This is my first time watching you but this video was amazing and so inspiring! I vote no bling on the saltbox ornament. I love being in the garden in the spring, with red poppies and crystal alyssum.
Thank you so much, and welcome! There have been votes both way but no bling is definitely strongly in the lead - it's a small but mighty ornament that probably really doesn't need anything else.
🎉🎈3K🎈🎉 No bling. My thinking is… the bling may take away from the stitching on the edges. The house catches your eye and the trees soften and pull it all together and makes it complete. I think beads would distract from the piece. My two cents. Bittersweet the beaded trim will be great. On my the taupe soldiers are great! The morning dew on bleeding hearts in a Spring Garden glisten like Red Crystal s.
That's a really insightful take - you're very right. It's a small but mighty composition that's already complete. And there is certainly plenty of bling coming once I put that stonking trim on Bittersweet and Broomsticks!!!
Hi Katie, Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. It is so obvious you put a great deal of time into your tutorials on top of all the beautiful stitching and finishing that is so inspiring. I have learned so much, especially about silk threads. I may be turning into a silk snob. I have a question about the new kit you are offering. Are any of the colors duplicates to what came in the first kit? As for autumn stitching, I can stitch autumn any time. It is my favorite time of year. I look forward to stitching the autumn Seasons of the Heart chart.
Thank you! And to your question, yes, there are, although not too many. Two, I think. The brighter colors of Winter compared to the paler colors of the Rabbit and the Rose means that most of the colors are different. And you'll love the fall flosstube kit! Don't start that chart just yet...
I love the loo of the stretched purl on the square finished snowflake ornament, it reminds me of tatting or crochet, a really neat effect. Have you thought about using a very pale yellow for your lining fabric for the Marie Antoinette casket? It would provide a lovely backdrop for all of the beautiful saturated colors you are using in the casket smalls.
Thank you! That's actually a very interesting idea - and certainly they are the right colors to really pop against yellow but I have to admit it's not really my favorite color. I do like the idea of a more limited palette but you are absolutely right that it would be a really stunning, high impact background...
Your attention to detail is so impressive, Katie. I can’t wait to see your Marie Antoinette box come to life! I will have to buy a new pair of scissors if I win a lovely crystal FOB. You should watch Rachel Maskey’s TH-cam where she makes a Marie Antoinette headdress. It’s so good!
Thank you so much, that's so kind of you! I am also really excited to see how the MA box evolves, and I will definitely have to check out Rachel Maskey, I hadn't heard of her. Marie Antoinette certainly did some very serious hair, more architecture than hairstyling!
My garden is a mess right now, hopefully I will get some garden tidy before spring and I will be planting a red dahlia, not sure if there is a variety called crystal.
The Winter Saltboxes finish is lovely. Your work is stunning, do you have any formal training? The embroidered pieces are just beautiful. I love to Garden in the Spring, the Red roses are stunning with the crystal like dew drops upon them.
Thank you! And no, I don't have any formal training. I took the online Cabinet of Curiosities course with Thistle Threads but mostly taught myself out of books. I just love color and textiles so perhaps it was meant to be.
Hey Karie, I watch every single video from and I can tell how much you are inspiring me. I would love to make a scissors keep for a very very tiny scissor and now my questions. Could you make a tutorial how to do that? I think your previous tutorial a great to follow! And I have a second question. I'm from Berlin and I would love to stitch your conversion but to ship your package would be ridicules pricy. Would you offer also which colors do you use and where in chart? I can get it easily here in Europe. And which count is your fabric? Would be great if I had a chance to participate. best regards Liz
Thank you! This is a really busy time for me right now so I don't think that's feasible, but I can outline the method for you. Vonna the Twisted Stitcher has a tutorial on finishing a round flat ornament, where you lace fabric over a front and back shape, then hand stitch the two together. Draw the shape of a scissor keep, keeping in mind it has to go over and around your scissors, so it needs plenty of ease, and then cut four out of Bristol paper (front, front lining, back, back lining). Front and back are each constructed like one of Vonna's ornaments (minus trim), and then the two are sandwiched together, and stitched. It's basically Vonna's existing tutorial with a few tweaks. Good luck! As to the kit, the conversion is exclusive to the kit which I realize does make life difficult for international stitchers. However, there are a ton of free conversions in my videos to choose from if buying a kit isn't feasible. Winter isn't one of them but I do have a ton of other holiday stitches available at no cost. Happy stitching!
Why not use the silk wrapped purl stretched slightly in the color you feel works best and couch it around the edge of your completed salt box rather than beads. It feels like bling just isn’t appropriate for this finish, but a little understated embellishment would be perfect.
That's an idea, thank you! I'll have to think about what color might work - I'm having such a hard time visualizing an edging that that would take some thought.
Oooh, that's food for thought. The icicle would be really out of scale - the ornament is tiny and you have to use a larger bead to get that defined icicle look so it can't scale down. But adding an element to the hanger is a really interesting idea, I'll have to mull that over - thank you!
Oh dear, I meant to bring that up as this is asked every time. The posies are way beyond the scope of a tutorial and require in person, hands on instruction. Beautiful but fiddly as all get out. And the materials aren't readily available, there's no retail source that I know of for the base wire. So not a candidate for a future tutorial, but they provide lots of eye candy!
Hi Katie, I came back to this video because I could have sworn I asked a question about your source for the bright red silk faille fabric for your project bag and you answered (if I remember correctly, it wasn't Mood) but for the life of me I can't find my comment. Would you mind saying again which store you got that fabric from?
katie-strachan.com/shop/seasons-of-the-heart-winter-preorder There's not a thread only option as I am just one person and not a full service LNS. But as the linen is a sized cut (rather than a standard fat 1/8 or 1/4) it's a minimal cost and what you do or don't stitch with it is up to you. Happy stitching!
Thank you so much! I love the brighter colors too - pale colors can be really beautiful but the vivid shades were really nice for this piece. As to art training, no, not at all - self taught.
@@katiestrachanembroidery OK, no formal art training? Now I’m really impressed! You are brilliant! I think the appeal of the brighter colors is that you take a piece that is “primitive” and transform it so that it fits any decor style. At some point, I will order a packet from you. For now, I’m trying to learn the lingo and familiarize myself with the products you use. Thank you for sharing your talent!
@@leslies6008 Thank you so much! And there's plenty to experiment with in previous episode descriptions - smaller projects with fewer threads if you'd like to try them out without committing to a larger kit. If you haven't watched the specialty thread tutorial part I, I would really recommend it as I explain all the different threads and their uses in depth. Happy stitching!
Katie, would you be willing to share a little about yourself? For example, where did you go to college? What was your major? I have a feeling you might have been an English major, based on some of the titles in your library.
Did the Norton editions give me away? You must be one yourself, to spot the Nortons at a distance! But yes, I majored in English at USC and my focus was early modern British literature. Reading and stitching are my two great passions.
My favorite time of year in my GARDEN is SPRING when the dewdrops sparkle like CRYSTALS and the RED flowers touch my heart!
I just found you....what a blessing you are to this wonderful world of fiber arts!
Thank you, and welcome! I'm so glad you found my channel - good luck!!
Katie, Your talent knows no bounds. Love to watch your videos.
Thank you, that's so kind!!
On the these beautiful Crystal clear days, I've loved pouring through your amazing videos. I especially have enjoyed your love of that incredible rich red in so many projects.
Love it! Good luck!
In the spring I love to see the red crystal roses 🌹 in my flower garden. Great creations. Thanks for your generosity
Thank you, and thanks for watching! Good luck!
My garden is full of red flowers that sparkle! Thanks for another wonderful flosstube.
Thank you, and good luck!
Another very enjoyable Flosstube Katie. I love to see your eyes light up with such passion when you show us your beautiful bling. Red and the Crystal are my favorite but then again I love all your work. Ever time I see your work I just want to stitch all the things.🤩🤩
Thank you so much! I do love the bling, it's so fun. And if only there were more than 24 hours in a day, so we could all stitch all the things!
During the Spring I spent hours and hours in my garden planting red flowers that look like a crystal in the sun. Love your sparkles!
Thank you, and good luck!
Thank you for watching! And good luck!
Love it! Good luck!
Beautiful pieces. Such inspiration. I love seeing the red tulips shining with crystal dew in the early spring garden.
Thank you so much, and good luck!
I am still waiting for a few silks for Blueskin,
so I have a lot of catching up to do due to supply chain issues with retailers.
Stunning work! No bling is my vote. The red flowers in your spring garden have a gold hue under a crystal blazing sun.
Cheers
Thank you so much, and good luck!!
Its always great to plant a spring garden! Pins are just lovely
Good luck! They are beautiful, such a lovely little needlework accessory.
My flower garden has been plagued by extreme heat, and my petunias need a little spring in their petals. Love your videos. You are such a talented young lady. I also loved your red and crystal fobs and they would be a treasure to own.
It's a tough summer for gardens! Not too hot here but the drought is killing us - my own looks quite sad. And thank you! Good luck!
Garden, spring, red and crystal. Another enjoyable video! Love the variety in your finishes! Happy crafting!
Thank you so much, and good luck! Variety in finishing keeps it interesting, and much more fun!
Cathy here....as a subscriber I have enjoyed your exquisite finishes. So beautiful and detailed. Your RED CRYSTAL scissor fob is gorgeous !!
Thank you so much, and thank you for watching!
@@katiestrachanembroidery thanks sew much
I love all your finishes! So inspiring! The red crystal trims are stunning, And there is no greater inspiration for silk thread palettes than the Garden in the Spring.
Thank you so much, and good luck!
Walking through my spring garden gazing on the red roses covered in crystal dew drops.
Well done - good luck!
Once again you have inspired with your creations. Love spending time in my spring garden with thoughts of red plum tomatoes glistening with crystal dew in the morning summer months.
Thank you, and wonderfully done! Good luck!
Hi Katie the sparkling red moon made my spring garden glisten like bright crystals in the night. Love the special things that you are gifting this week. Thanks for the video and I prefer the purl 2 scallops. It reminds me of the old fashioned tatting edge effects
Good luck! And yes, you're right - it is very like a tatted edge. But much easier to do!
Thank you, what a beautiful picture! And such a compliment - good luck!
Enjoy!
Thank you for all your wonderful finishes. Garden, spring, congratulations on 3000 subscribers, red, crystal b
Thank you so much, and good luck!
Great video, as always! You’re such an inspiration. I imagine Marie Antoinette sparkling in her garden in spring in a white crystal dress but I can’t picture her in a red one. Thanks for your videos, I love them.
A sparkly chemise a la reine! Quite the mental image - good luck!
My first time watching and was mesmerized. I cannot wait to start on video 1. Thank you for sharing your creations.
Thank you so much, and welcome! I'm glad you found my channel, and I hope you'll enjoy my other flosstubes!
You are fantastic! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
Thank you for such informational videos. I think the winter salt box is perfect as is. The choice of fabric is beautiful and extra bling might distract from the stitching. Your red and crystal fobs are beautiful too.
Thank you so much! There is a lot going on with the winter saltbox already, which is why I hesitated to add more. And good luck!!
It definitely would! And thank you so much - good luck!
Congratulations on 3k subscribers. I just love your finishes and your beading is exquisite. Thank you for sharing. Spring red crystal garden
Thank you for watching, and good luck!
Wow! What a lot of eye candy! So pretty!
Thank you so much!
You have inspired me to try something new and expand my creations. Would love to try a pin drum to house the spring pins.
I love it! Definitely do - Vonna the Twisted Stitcher's tutorial is great if you haven't already seen it. Super clear and easy to follow.
Jo
Thank you, and welcome! I hope you'll love silk - it's such a pleasure to work with!
Just love your channel , you come up with so many ideas so Inspiring. My crystal red roses look so pretty in my spring garden.
Thank you so much, and thank you for watching! Good luck!
I love walking through a Spring garden in the early morning, as the dew drops sit like tiny crystals on the red petals on a newly open tulip😊
Katie to you sleep? You are so prolific, I cannot believe what you get stitched by each new FlossTube!! Your casket panel is amazing !! The pink lining on your box would be lovely, I think a beautiful pale green would be as well .
Looking forward to meeting your mom on an up coming episode!!
Beautifully done, and good luck! And I do sleep, just not as many hours as I would like! But I'm a fast stitcher thanks to very good eyesight.
That's really the problem with the box - too many choices! They'd all look good.
Lovely video. A spring garden with red roses and crystal would be nice.
Thank you so much, and good luck!
Love your channel. Love red gardens in spring.
Thank you so much, and good luck!
Your work is beautiful, love the garden.
Thank you so much!
Nothing like a red Chrystal bowl to to place my spring flowers in from the garden.
Good luck!
Love your videos and congratulations on your new subscriber total. red in the spring garden shines like a crystal
Thank you so much, and good luck!
I'm new here. The spring pins are lovely and I could really use the help counting my stitches!
Welcome, I'm so glad you found my channel! And good luck!
Vacation is definitely more interesting than flosstube! And agreed on saltboxes, that was a very easy choice. It was just begging for some Druid Blue!
Wow another truly inspiring bling related video. I love your style and how delicate and beautiful everything is that you create. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could plant a spring garden of red crystals!
Oh now that is a captivating vision as I love crystal everything! How does your garden grow - full of sparkle!!!!
My garden is a mess right now, hopefully will get some garden tidy done before spring. Going to plant some red dahlias.
Glorious! Dahlias are my mother's favorite flower after roses, and they are lovely - so many beautiful colors and varieties.
@@laurafitz2145 As far as I know, I am the only person to have figured this one out. It's a dead technique that has been all but forgotten.
Crystal
Thank you! And I hope you'll have fun with Winter - brightening up the colors a bit is really fun.
Thanks Katie, very helpful.
Thank you for watching!
Your work is beautiful!
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!
🎉🎈3K🎈🎉
No bling.
@@katiestrachanembroidery You will enjoy Rachel. She's so funny and she "builds" a ship for a hairpiece. Very entertaining.
My garden is a mess right now, hopefully I will get some garden tidy before spring and I will be planting a red dahlia, not sure if there is a variety called crystal.
It would be magical if there were!
They are all beautiful but I am smitten with the red scissor fob
Thank you! It is wonderfully sparkly - good luck!
Re Winter Saltbox ornament. How about adding a beaded crystal icicle off of the hanger? A 3-D element of interest would be a bit unique.
Oooh, that's food for thought. The icicle would be really out of scale - the ornament is tiny and you have to use a larger bead to get that defined icicle look so it can't scale down. But adding an element to the hanger is a really interesting idea, I'll have to mull that over - thank you!
@@katiestrachanembroidery a new way to feature your beautiful crystals.
@@lindamcdermott3102 Music to my ears! You can never have enough!
I start fall stitching in August
I think I will as well! The fall colors are calling to me...
Please, please, please make a tutorial for your beautiful posies. My mother had the best spring garden.
It was Mood! They have a full color range of faille online
@@katiestrachanembroidery thank you!
nice work and ideas👌👌
Thank you so much!
Where can I find the threads? I have everything else,
katie-strachan.com/shop/seasons-of-the-heart-winter-preorder
There's not a thread only option as I am just one person and not a full service LNS. But as the linen is a sized cut (rather than a standard fat 1/8 or 1/4) it's a minimal cost and what you do or don't stitch with it is up to you. Happy stitching!
I love your work! Your choice of color brightens the pattern. You must have formal art training.

Spring garden.
Red crystal.
Good luck!
