  • If you want to remove Bing and the New CoPilot from your Windows 11 Desktop, Taskbar, Start Menu, Search, and the Microsoft Edge Web Browser then this video is exactly what you need. I'll also show you how to change your default Tabs to Google or any other site you like so that way, Bing is gone from your life and CoPilot becomes No-Pilot.
    This video is new and updated for the latest version of Windows 11 and the latest versions of Edge as of 27 October 2023.
    You will learn how to:
    Remove the CoPilot icon from the Windows 11 Taskbar
    Remove CoPilot Completely from Windows 11
    Remove all Bing Searches from the Start Menu
    Remove the Bing Icon from the Start Menu
    Remove Bing as the default search engine in Edge (and replace it with Google)
    Make Google your Microsoft Edge Homepage
    Make Google the default for New Tabs in Microsoft Edge
    Fix it if Google isn't available as a choice in the Drop Down in Microsoft Edge
    1:35 - Remove the icon from the Search bar in the Taskbar
    2:55 - Remove the Web Searches in the Start Menu & the BING icon in the Start Menu using 'DisableSearchBoxSuggestions'
    4:40 - Remove the CoPilot icon from the Microsoft Edge Browser
    5:40 - Remove the CoPilot icon from the Windows 111 Taskbar
    7:00 - Permanently Remove CoPilot from Windows 11
    10:10 - Make Google Your Homepage in Microsoft Edge
    11:32 - Make Google the default for New Tabs in Microsoft Edge
    13:06 - How to Fix it if Google isn't available as a choice in the Drop Down in Microsoft Edge
    14:54 - If Microsoft Change it, I'll fix it, so don't forget to subscribe
    If this video helped you and you want to support the channel, you can do so here:
    buymeacoffee.c...
    In the video at 14:08 I talk about how to fix Edge if Google doesn't appear as a selectable search engine. In the URL field with %s in place of query field, paste the following:
    {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&{google:RLZ}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}{google:assistedQueryStats}{google:searchboxStats}{google:searchFieldtrialParameter}{google:iOSSearchLanguage}{google:prefetchSource}{google:searchClient}{google:sourceId}{google:contextualSearchVersion}ie={inputEncoding}

    I tried the registry editior metro and still it didn’t disable this..
    fucking hell. This is so annoying. I don’t want any stinky ai chats or bing icons in my search window. This is just a minor issue right, but it’s showing of the general trend. I am starting to consider switching to Linux .

    Very clear and thorough explanation. I went through it and was easily able to get rid of bing, and the copilot icon in the taskbar. BUT, when I attempted to go further....went to "start" and then hit "gp" to cue group edits, this never came up....even if I typed in the full gpedits. It simply said "nothing found." So, unfortunately that's as far as I could go, and was not able to remove copilot altogether.

    It's a real shame that you need the Pro version of Windows to access the Group Policy editor and disable copilot altogether. I know that there are other ways to get around this in the Home Editions but after experiencing the complete borking which was Windows 11 on a latptop for over a year, I don't think that installing third-party hacks would be beneficial for me nor the laptop.

    For anyone on Windows 11 Home you wont have access to the "Local Group Policy" without a bit of extra work. A quicker work around that I've found to work with no issues is by going in to the Terminal and Copy/Pasting this line of text; " reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v TurnOffWindowsCopilot /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f ". To get to terminal right click the start icon on the task bar and select terminal. after copying and pasting make sure to restart/sign out and sign back in.

    Hi, I couldn't find gpedit because I use Windows 11 Home, but I was able to find a different method.
    You just have to open Registry Editor again, and go to the same folder. But this time make a new key called WindowsCopilot, and a new DWORD called TurnOffWindowsCopilot. Same thing as disabling Explorer, so set it to 1 then restart your computer.'

    I have 11 Home and can't go the "edit group policies" route, but I found a solution... In the Registry Editor, I added a key: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot then added a Dword "TurnOffWindowsCopilot" and set it to 1. It worked! Not only on mine, but on my wife's Win10 (which somehow had Copilot installed there). Hope this helps someone.

      This actually worked for me after group policies didn't. Now Win+C just opens Bing. I have Home edition and did some hacking to install Group Policy Editor from the existing files (all Windows PCs HAVE the files and can technically run the program) but there's no indication it actually works lol, maybe because I am using Home edition and there's some nonsense permission still blocking edits from having any effect.

    Brilliant sir! More than grateful for this post popping up in first 3 results of my Google search; "how to disable Bing & CoPilot Preview". Though I'd already switched out browser & search engine, I still had microsoft Edge/Bing/CoPilot trying to be invasive & annoying. I'm more than opposed to having things I don't want/choose/need crammed down my throat, & having need to quickly purchase a backup laptop, they made it seem as though I had no choice but to allow them to install everything, before I could switch it all over to another browser & search engine? I'm now certain that's not true, yet I'd had my old laptop for many years, so I'd forgotten about the wily ways they rope you in, errgghh. Had to do a clean up.

    Interesting, I assume the same methods can be used in WIN 10 as I have absolutely NO intention of switching to Win 11.
    That said, what I want to do is NOT just to disable, Bing, Edge, Defender. Because I use NON Microsoft software for those functions, and I OBJECT to MS garnering my activity and other data.
    I want to completely remove those MS apps from my PC, because each time there's a Windows Update they get reinstated if they are simply disabled.
    Is this possible in Win10 I expect there are a lot of other people with the same request?

      Yeah, I'm in the same position as yourself i have windows 10 and have no intention of getting win 11, but i can't find the option (more settings) under privacy & security it's not there, so can't turn off option ... Show search highlights. This must be an option on win 11 not 10 so i cant move forward .

      Actually, I came accross the solution yesterday purely by accident, I have been having issues with Microsoft, so entered a query into the search bar (next to the Win icon" the question was "How to delete MS Edge" to my surprise, the MS AI bot responded and told me exactly how to remove Edge from win 10, also how to remove Defender. The browser I am using is Brave, I asked the AI if the edge removal would cause a problem, it said it would not.

      Doesn't seem to be possible. I acquired this _spyware_ yesterday. Microsoft snuck it on to my computer (without permission) disguised as a regular "update", and I've been searching for a way to remove it ever since. I'm not generally helpless around my computer and am familiar enough with the program files, etc to get most things organised the way I want, but... The problem is that _you can't actually find it anywhere._ Many are saying this is because it is not installed at all, but is an an application that exists only on Microsoft's "Cloud" - And all that is actually installed on your computer is a link to it. It seems dubious to me because the spurious "update" took just under an hour. However, if that is the case, there is probably little to be done about it beyond disabling it. And even that may be pretty tricky if you're using Windows 10 "Home" edition.
      Outside of that, have to agree regarding avoiding Windows 11. This is where it became very obvious that Microsoft is going to try to force everyone into their fictional "cloud" (Actually their servers), where they will have access to and ownership of everyone's files. Next step will be making Windows into a subscription service - Making Microsoft into a utility company where you'll pay a monthly bill...

    Hello thanks for this video was very helpful.
    I do have a Question, on windows 10 there was the light gray box on the right bottom side (next to calendar & time) on my laptop when I clicked on it all the tabs would hide at the same time or whatever website or app I was on, sine upgrading to windows 11 it has disappeared. Is there a way to bring that back? IM SORRY I DONT KNOW THE NAME OF THAT FEATURE :

    • @TLTechLife

      Hello, I assume you mean that it went to show the desktop? In the latest windows 11 it’s still available but switched off and replaced with the copilot icon. To turn it back on, open settings using Windows+I. Go to personalization, taskbar, taskbar behaviours and choose ‘select the far corner of the taskbar to show desktop’. Now you should see a faint vertical line appear when you put your mouse cursor in the far right. Click it to show desktop, again to return to having the open windows show. You can use ‘Windows+D’ for the same thing. Hope that helps my friend. Have a great day!

    I did it all but I was just wondering how...for a lack of a better term...how permanent is Copilot/Recall now removed off my system? Once it's been removed/disabled is there a chance that it might just "turn on" or reinstall itself?

    • @TLTechLife
      @TLTechLife  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, yes that is a very real and very likely possibility. MS are heavily invested in this and as such want you to use it, even if you don’t. So future patches are highly likely to reinstall features you remove. That said if (and more likely when) this happens let me know and if I can find a fix then I will update this video with a new one. To me personally I don’t really mind that it’s there and I rarely use it myself. But I understand people have issues with MS simply bolting in new things you don’t ask for and people wanting more control over their system. Thanks for watching and the great question.

I thought I was going to have to uninstall Edge! I will try these steps even though I am not will about editing the Registry!

    This might be of interest, I have recently started using AVG antivirus/malware. Embedded in their controls is a function to display suspect files and .exe What I have found is a plethora of Microsoft .exe apps, running in the background the report also shows the IP address. BUT unfortunately AVG does not provide in depth info on the APP/File, but Internet search shows up the info. BUT, in AVG you have the ability to block these .exe/files from accessing the IP address. So, far the blocking has not disabled Win10.

    I am using Windows 10 and now we are forced to have all this crap or spend a few hours searching TH-cam for ways to fix it. The always show sidebar button is not even in my settings now since an update today and there is no auto hide button on the sidebar and there is no Copilot file in the group policy either. Looks like they are trying to force all this Bing rubbish on us now. Well I am done with this crap I will go to another browser.

    • @TLTechLife
      @TLTechLife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is certainly an option to move to another browser. It’s a shame that we’re not afforded the flexibility of using parts of edge and easily being able to turn other parts off. That’s a conscious decision by Microsoft to do that and I can see by this video that a lot of people hate that. Anyway mate, as long as I find a way to reverse some of these things I’ll continue to do videos about it. Have a great day and thanks for watching.

    • @yeahrightmate
      @yeahrightmate 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TLTechLife Ok I have found a bit of a way around it last night, if you turn copilot back on in your settings then in allows the option back on the sidebar to hide it and the after hiding it you go back to your setting in Edge and turn Copilot off again and the sidebar remains hidden, but I also uninstalled that new Featured update now and disabled all update and hopefully they will fix it or I won't be doing anymore updates. I will leave a spare copy of Windows that I keep running just as a backup if needed as normal update settings so I can keep check to see if we get any updates to fix it.Thanks.
