Whitby Harbour Long Exposure Photography with my Canon 1D Mark 3

- I took a very early morning drive to Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast to photograph the piers in the harbour. This is a shoot I've wanted to do for a couple of years and finally got around to doing it. I used my Canon 1DMkiii and my 24-105mm lens for this.
I had long exposures in mind as the tide was on its way back in and while I didn't get the colourful sunrise that was teased, I think I got a couple of nice photographs of Whitby's pier.

I really enjoy watching your videos, it's an enjoyable learning experience and proof you don't have to have the latest and greatest equipment to make beautiful images like you do!
I’ve tried to make a point of keeping my newer cameras off of TH-cam for this reason. I still think there’s value in older DSLR cameras that can be picked up for next to nothing - hence the 1D & 7D taking up a lot of screen time this last few months. Thanks for the support Mark it means a lot.

Yeah still a great camera. I don’t use mine too often these days because I don’t know the shutter count on it and I want to baby it somewhat.

Speaking of peace Chris, this was a very peaceful morning, and the video captured it quite nicely.
It’s a great little town this one. Used to be busy with fishing boats but sadly that’s no longer the case. The sea was so calm this morning it was peaceful like you say.

My first set of photos were taken here last year! So loved seeing this. It's Nice to have confirmation from a pro that you don't need the expensive gear in 2022 to get a great photo. I get disillusioned with the likes of z9 but your video shows there is no need
Thank you Caroline. That’s the whole point of this channel - you just don’t need it! A half decent camera and a couple of nice lenses and you’re good! My most modern camera - the “fancy” mirrorless one is actually my video camera. Thanks for understanding what I’m trying to do on this channel. It makes me happy to see people are finding value in it!

Thanks David. My one gripe here was the lack of and real sunrise and I may end up going back to try again. I think the composition works nicely it just needed a bit of colour. Thanks for watching ☺️

Thanks for this one, mate. It's been 30 years since I was last at Whitby and it's one of those places that I really miss. By the way, I used to love the drive over the moors to get there :)
It’s not somewhere I often get up to but I always enjoy being there. The sat nav took me through all of the back roads. The drive from Malton to Pickering and then the moors is a great drive though. That’s the way I came out. It’s so quiet around there now though.
