What else was super interesting was the dead people had neon gravestones, meaning they took their own life and were being used to fight against the banditos, sad scene
Reminds me a lot of the message of neon gravestones. Seeing other people kill themselves can make the temptation to do so stronger. Seeing the outpouring of posthumous support they get can make suicide seem more appealing in a way. I think this is why they are fighting against the Banditos despite being victims themselves. In Neon Gravestones Tyler expresses that if we give people the support we would give them posthumously while they are still alive, we can make a big difference.
at the end his eyes aren’t red meaning nico didn’t have control over him. clancy looks nico in the face as himself. he is accepting that dark part of him but not letting it control him
The ending is taking me to Holding Onto You! “Tie a noose around your mind loose enough to breathe fine and … tell it ‘you belong to me!’” When he opens his eyes to look at Nico, he’s confronting his own thoughts! I cried watching this video! I have an adult child who has battled mental illness for so long, and is still battling! She’s developed awareness, and tools, and support, and is courageous! I am so grateful and so proud of her!
I personally think the open ending of the mv shows us that the fight continues in each of us. That is why in the end we see a black screen for a few seconds in which we can see our reflection. Therefore, everyone will interpret the ending in their own way: victory or defeat is up to you.
Oooh that’s an interesting concept to think about, I really like that. The fight definitely never ends when it comes to mental health, all you can do is keep facing the dark and push through while gaining genuine people you love and that love you
I’m pretty convinced that those three torch bearers who bring the box to Tyler, (who are the same three who first greeted him at start of Navigating) are to represent the Holy Trinity and Josh is his guardian angel.
yup! and reminds me of the verse “then I cracked open my box someone must have picked the lock a little light revealed the spot where my fingernails had fought then I pushed it open more, pushing up against the door then I sat up off the floor and found the breath I was searching for” that breath being Clancy’s outfit and how it’s what he decided to wear to combat to finally fight and find Nico
The birds are vultures Red Cloaks are Bishops The vultures are dead And the bishops are seizing the vultures Those lights are neon gravestones The vultures are surveillances outside, the see when you arrive 9 bishop Keons died in The Outside Music Video 8 bishops 7 in circle, Nico/blurryface behind door
I think another song and conclusion of everything will be released on the 25th. In the livestream, Tyler was explaining Josh’s role in the lore and said there were 3 sides to Josh. We’ve only seen 2, Josh as the Torchbearer and the Josh that was projected to help Tyler (or Clancy). We haven’t seen the 3rd side yet. There is no way this is the ending of the story!! They have to put a conclusion… please Tyler and Josh!
The end reminds me of Migraine - the song ends on a positive note, but stops abruptly, signifying perhaps that the struggle isn't over. Nor should it be over.
I think Josh is going to play a major role in the next chapter. The whole album is focused on needing help from friends to fight. We still don't fully understand the torchbearer and his powers. Side note - could all the birds be references to social media aka twitter and people watching them causing even more anxiety? The birds seem important.
The birds are vultures. The bishops are seeing through the bird's eyes -- they know the banditos are coming! They bring back the dead from their Neon Gravestones. The end -- you could hear the yells from all around the globe! lol. It is not over....
Thats also why all the eyes from the album covers were under the red tape on spotify and other platforms. So Nico and other bishops could not spy on Banditos through the eyes. The vultures are under bishop control, just like Clancy mastered the skill of seizing somebody (and did in other Clancy MVs - Overcompensate is basically performed by seized guy by Clancy watch the ending, same Navigating start) so yea you are right the bishops are seeing through and controling the vultures
Honestly, your reaction is how I felt throughout the whole video too!! 😂 I love the way you analyse the lyrics, twenty one pilots bring such a positive message. You explain their message in such a clear and beautiful way. Thank you so much!
"We're surrounded, and we're hounded There's no 'above, ' or 'under, ' or 'around' it For 'above' is blind belief, and 'under' is sword to sleeve And 'around' is scientific miracle, let's pick 'above' and see" morph lyrics
Twenty One pilots songs always have multiple meanings. Lore wise he’s talking about defeating Nico, and the fact he can’t do it without the banditos. It also makes sense he’s talking to God and the fact he can’t go on with life while all this anxiety, depression, and stress is looming over him, and he can’t move on without him.
This song is truly beautiful. With the lore videos it makes me really wonder how Tyler feels seeing a physical representation of his depression/nightmares. There are the hands of his villain around his neck, eyes making direct contact. Its gotta be so weird. And it has to be why both of them act so well in every video.
For me, when I first heard Paladin Strait (as a Psychology major, and someone who’s diagnosed with GAD and MDD), I always thought the song was about the POV of someone who’s struggling with mental health illnesses but reaching out for the help they know they can get. The first verse is the communication, the second verse is the portrayal of what goes on in the mind, the chorus is the sacrifice of keeping that communication with the ones you love, and the bridge is taking the risk of finally speaking out, but there also being the risk of a) you will finally feel like you’re heard, or b) it causes no difference and you continue to struggle, maybe just feeling hopeless.
Such an epic video for an already epic song! The battle and Clancy climbing the tower definitely reminded me of Lord of the Rings. I'm thinking that they are going to give us closure for the storyline on the Clancy tour but since the storyline is all about mental health struggles, I think it won't be fully resolved.
A new song is most definitely starting at the end! And on this watch I was trying to make out the formation of the zombies...there appears to be something being spelled out at the start of the overhead zombie shot before it cut to the ground battle. But it seems to be purposely vague, for the clique to try and solve?
I turned it all different ways and can't decipher it. Letters? Numbers? A code to unlock the next song? 🙏 It doesn't look like random zombie placement!
I believe that any time Tyler addresses a vague "you" in any song he's ever written, he's referring to God. I think TOP is a spear of light in an industry of dark.
I think this is about God for sure. In the Clancy cd liner notes, Tyler personally thanks God for keeping him alive. It seems pretty obvious to me this is about his savior.
Good reactions to this incredible experience 👏 and as you noted in there.. the moment you can't help but help yourself to move forward into the unknown to heal and overcome the struggles ...I know I'm inspired too by this music n artistry they've done for us.. who need to fight too
I always love hearing your take on what the lyrics mean. I think you’re pretty spot on. I love every song on this album and this one really speaks to me. I’m the healthiest physically and mentally that I’ve ever been and just truly at peace and happy. Yet I’m watching my father near the end of his life which is so hard. I hate to think what state I would be in if I wasn’t in a healthy place. I will get through this storm. ❤❤
Appreciate your story and that you are ready for whatever comes your way..prayers for you as the waves come towards you and thanks for working to give yourself mental health🙏
What is…. All of this time since the very beginning, we always thought that he was talking about his Faith in God but he was actually talking about his depression. The song Drown for example…. “Wash me, drown me, please…” He is tempting depression to take over. You as a therapist, how do you feel about music that addresses these issues so eloquently and perfectly?? Because I am seeing you as a therapist who is waking up to a world of people addressing their issues thru art and music. This did not really happen in the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and the 2000’s.
Someone asked Tyler on twitter today if the shows would be the battle. He said "Its not. The show is a flashback. Reminding us why we fight before we do." Something more is coming.
“And start a concert, a complete diversion. Start a mob and you can be quite certain, we’ll win but not everyone will get out” - Nico and the Niners This whole battle is a diversion. The real Tyler is on the cliff side seizing the other Tyler, the one who is with Nico. A complete diversion
My thoughts - Even though the first verse has a longing sound, as if for a friend or God, I think it's for Nico. He's always wanted to go after him - "A route I've mapped a thousand times." His desire to overcome him is as emotional and deep as it would be to find a friend or God. Then, as he approaches him, Nico is ready for him coming to meet him head-on in the second verse.
