Sean Tottenham I am simply comparing what she has in Ontario and how much she is paying for it. I say London cus I live in London and have been for over 30 years . I am bringing to light the standard of life in other cities and what you can get for your money ...vs London.
I.e is it actually worth living in a major city unless you have particular attachments to it ?
It is coming from MY perspective .

In London We pay £1400 for a tiny 2 bed flat, £200 per month each on travel, £150 council tax a month, £55 for each phone bill, £30 for internet, £90 gas and electricity per month and £400 per month food shop! Canada sounds like a dream. X

@@Moonlight-sb2ofthat’s honestly not expensive AT ALL. Maybe if your monthly wage was low then it would be but comparing it to the expenses in London it’s a dream. I’m living in a room in a 5 bedroom house and I’m paying £800 per month for rent and I earn around £1400 a month after tax. Trust me London is one of the most expensive places to live

    Welcome to the Country.
I have lived in Canada all of my life. I think it’s wonderful that you have come from U.K.
I would like to take this opportunity to give you a little advice you may find helpful
Please take into account that the information I am giving you does not take into account the current Pandemic and that everything is a bit different because of the Pandemic.
The most common misconception about Bell, Rogers and Telus are that they are not competitive
They are in fact very competitive they just don’t advertise it. If you have a Bell plan you go to Rogers and say this is my Bell plan what have you got in comparison.
Then you go back to Bell and tell them you are leaving them for Rogers.
I recently did this very thing. The end result being that the Company I was with originally put me in the next higher package for half the cost of what I was paying.
I have done something very similar with Bell years ago when I told them I was changing my long distance carrier.
In other words don’t think that they can not change the fees on plans. They can.
The bank card I believe used in more ways in Ontario than any place in the world.
We do like to use cash as well.
Most people do not use bank machines to get cash however.
It is common place to go into a grocery store or shopping store and ask them if you can do cash back.
Places such as Walmart and Zehrs will even ask you on the terminal if you want cash back before showing your total
Getting cash this way means you do not pay $3.00 fee.
I have gone into walmart purchased a pack of gum and gotten $100.00 cash back and left store.
It’s a good way to avoid the extra fee.
If you have not looked into yet please take a look at etransfer. Which is essentially emailing money from one email account to another.
If you do not have one already. You need to purchase an R.F.I.D. wallet for your bank cards.
Please look up what that is as I do not want my definition of what it is to play down what it is.
These are popular practices in Ontario. I have noticed not so much elsewhere. So I thought I would mention.
    .

I can and will only give general advice for things I have experienced myself.
As you know these are unprecedented times so I find myself at a bit of a loss on a lot of things.
However I have posted advice here from time to time when I thought it would be helpful. I will continue to do so as long as Louise allows it and finds it useful.

    • @tomheinrichs7058
      @tomheinrichs7058 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I do have some advice based on speculation.
However before I give it I must say this. I am not a a Doctor or any type of medical professional.
In Ontario we have seasons. In these seasons nature has cycles. I say this knowing nothing about the seasons in any other part of the world.
One particular cycle I am presently afraid of because of Covid 19 is the mosquito. Whether that has any Medical truth or will be a factor I have no idea.
However. As people in these times are hoard buying. I went out I purchased a can of mosquito repellent.
It’s not money wasted. Would buy in couple months even if Covid 19 was not around.
But buying it now at least I know will have it.

Wow, that's so cheap I could cry!
In the UK, per month (for me):
Rent for a small one-bed maisonette/flat on south coast, UK (outside of London): £725 (very cheap for the area, it was a lucky find!).
Gas & Elec: £40 (that's a really good deal after shopping around for a bit and probably more in the winter).
    Water: £25.
    Internet: £26 (reasonable package).
Mobile: £10 (mostly because of loyalty to O2 for years).
I don't have a landline, or TV (too expensive and not really necessary with mobile and Netflix/Amazon Prime subscriptions).
Council Tax: £84 (and that's with a 25% discount because I live on my own).
Basic Tesco food/essentials shop (no alcohol or luxuries): easily £200 and probably more. Likely to increase even further with Brexit.
Rest of salary goes on income tax/national insurance, loans, etc, which doesn't leave me much for a rainy day :-/

We are both from and live in Northern Ireland but are really interested in moving to Canada in the next couple of years. There are comments from UK citizens interested in Canada (either for travel or to emigrate). As a Canadian I sense many are from urban backgrounds (comments on public transit, etc). How much of your 'culture shock' is international? How much is smaller centres?
I would guess as a rural Canadian, I would be more comfortable in rural UK than in urban Canada.

So I do have a few videos such as my information video. I vlogged every day and showed you the order I did things in..
But we stayed in an air BnB while looking at apartments. Once we got our apartment we looked for jobs :)
If we got a job before our own apartment i would have just put the air BnB address down then changed it once i moved.
It is not a stressful process at all! And i am someone who stresses out easy ahhaa. I think the most stressed part was waiting for the visa to come through in the UK. I just hated waiting. As long as I got my visa and moved it was just all so exciting!!
I hope this helps! If you watch me first few vlogs when I moved here you will see me finding an apartment, job, opening a bank account, phone contracts, etc.

Hannah Jane Bruce I think it depends what sort of lifestyle you want? Being outdoors all the time ? Do you like city life or country style life style? I love where I live in Ontario because I have the best of both worlds. I’m one hour from the hustle and bustle of city life in Toronto but down the road from me I have all the waterfalls and lakes which is beautiful
