      I was wasting a lot of time on Instagram so now after every time I use it I delete the app. Whenever I want to go on it I have to reinstall it which makes me less likely to use it

      Do the most important thing (right after exercise) first thing in the morning. Also, if the project is a big one, do a mini version of it first to take the intimidation out of it. For instance, I'll do a small mock up of a large painting I have planned to work out the bugs and see things more clearly

    Retirement is not a goal but sometimes nessesary. I just retired at 62 but I always saw myself as working way longer. Loved my job and was soo sad to leave, but my body is to ill to continue. I am so happy that I now can rest enough and not be in pain all the time every day. Not what I wanted but I am glad I could retire and that I can enjoy life even if it is in a much slower pace!

    A hack I use , specifically when I get an email from a client asking for a bunch of changes or this or that, is that I reply to the message as a draft as though it's done, and describe in detail how it has been done. Then I do it. After it's done, all I have to do is send. Helps me work through the problem, and also gets the ball rolling.

    The problem that I have with the "Outsource Everything" point is that I have seen a number of small businesses entrepreneurs use this to justify the practice of hiring Philippinoe digital workers as indipendent contractors for tiny amounts of money and then burning through and discarding these workers rather than trying to build up employees that they would have to pay a decent living wage. The practice can get VERY shady very fast.

    I love that you said busy is code for lazy. I think busy is code inefficient 😂 If we work smarter and not harder most of us wouldn’t hate our job so much as we wouldn’t be so busy and could take the time to resolve the parts of our jobs we don’t like. I know this doesn’t work for every job but it works for more roles and people think it will.

    I don’t think you really retire, if you have something that fills your day, you are not really retired. I remember my father telling me once he finished work, ‘ I don’t know how I fitted in work, as I am busier now in retirement’. I laugh now as I understand what he means. You are more financially independent, then retired. Great video Gabe.

    Agree on not going crazy on the news; however, living in a bubble isn’t the best. i.e. Caring for those in disaster area IS good. Too much selfishness in this world.

    • @roguered706
      @roguered706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. Too much news is terrible for you (I've learned the hard way) but you can't rely on another person for it. Their knowledge and values may not match yours and you won't get a well rounded outlook. And things that might not affect you today can certainly affect you down the road. I don't want to get political, but it's pretty easy to draw a line between politics and some of the controversial decisions made my the Supreme Court this past year. Perhaps being more informed 5 years ago, and getting involved, would have resulted in fewer unhappy people today.
      You need to find an appropriate level of balance

    • @Teal_Seal
      @Teal_Seal 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get it on the news thing. But it’s actually pretty important that we’re informed. Not that we take everything we’re told at face value, but at least hear both sides. Who we vote for heavily influences our lives as evidenced by what’s happened the last few years and things don’t seem to be improving anytime soon.

    That’s an interesting point about news intake. I used to get my news a lot more casually, and now it’s become this obsessive daily routine. Thanks for sharing. Comgrats. I'm so proud of you. I love this book. I want to finally finish it and re read parts to put into action . I can't believe we rather do something that makes us unhappy vs taking a risk . The limited believe and wrong story we are telling ourselves. It was interesting to hear you saying about checking mail on Friday and you can't talk to anyone on Monday because for the last several years I don't check mail on Friday if it's after 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. where I can actually make a business call. The exception is if I'm waiting for like an Amazon package. I learned my lesson I don't need to be worrying all weekend or thinking about something I can't handle to Monday

    Great points. Only thing is I think it’s important not to be an ignorant person when it comes to news. I hear so many people say “don’t watch the news, because it’s harmful” which is the wrong idea to have in my opinion. You should want to know what’s going on in the world or in your city simply to stay aware and so that you can contribute valid points to a conversation when people are talking about topics in the news/what’s happening in the world.
    If you have a smart phone which a lot of people do, you most likely have a news app on your phone and you can get your news like that. Quick small doses. You don’t have to spend hours reading or watching. But to suggest for people to not watch the news entirely because it does nothing for you and to ask someone in your life once a month or once a week what’s going on in the world is wild.

    • @MrWeebable
      @MrWeebable 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most people that do watch the news have no insight into it. You're being told a part of a selection of stories. What's the bigger picture? Is it a cause or a symptom? Is it an outlier or quite common? I have gone without news for months and the few news items that are noteworthy will be shared with you by friends.

    I’m not physically well and arthritis prevents so much that I think about accomplishing. 😢
    I was so organized and efficient…so you can imagine how I ruminate over and over in my mind the things I once was capable of.
    Although, I could see more specialists and look for additional help from other sources.
    I admit I’m not a minimalist, I’m 62 and I was in the antique business for 25 years. So I have collections I really love… but to much and I’m working on people coming in to buying some things. My problem is how much I love these old 200 year old books and maps. Although, I don’t need them all, it’s so hard to find someone I can trust to sell for me. It must be outsourced, but I need to be there watching since I’ve been taken advantage of by some collectors and if you aren’t sharp and aware constantly you lose money!
    I find this difficult since I don’t have family members involved with antiques and not interested. One book can be worth hundreds and everything must be research. So it’s not like I can donate my collections and I don’t have the fortunate income to do so.

    Actually, learning geopolitics (not from mainstream media ofc), helped me realize what is happening to the market. BRICS, dedolarization that's on the way and other geopolitical quakes that always impact the market...
    For example if you have investment in Chinese companies it's good to know when Will US start a war with China (it's not a question of if, just when) so you know in advance when you should get rid of your investment before those companies are delisted from NYSE and you lose everything.

    One way to rehearse poverty is to move to a different country only bringing luggage; you have to pack only the essentials by weight, and those first few days, weeks, months you will not have furniture or extra anything

    Re news, i think you’re a bit entitled if you switch off entirely. You can get the main headlines for 10 minutes a day, and read books or watch documentaries for deeper knowledge. I agree you don’t you need to watch the opinion shows, especially when they don’t go over or know the main details (and many are selling a predictable narrative based on the owner’s agenda).

    Curious tho…if you have created this four hour work week, what do u fill the other hours with? Isn’t it binge watching friends and working out? Or are you actually working more than four hours?

      Don't take the 4 hour thing to heart, it's not necessarily 4 hours but the concept of reducing your working hours.

    I would really strongly argue against not being knowledgeable about current events and politics. At the bare minimum everyone should keep up with local & state politics and vote when election day comes around! On an individual level following current events doesn't do much to benefit you but spending even just 15 minutes a week and doing your duty to vote is doable for anyone and everyone.

    Great points however, setting deadlines is subjective. If you were to take an exam your deadlines are the amount of time on each question. That doesn't guaranteed that you're going to answer the question in the allowed amount of time. It's best to create tasks that you can finish in less time than setting times to do everything. Reasons why America has qaulity control issues is because we don't do anything like we use too so concerned about completing a task than to learn something from it. You will eventually complete the task the right way instead of just doing the task to complete a time. Time is a social construct that humans created to measure space and cycles.

    The chat apps have added so much extra stress at work. My boss has required us to download an app so we can continually "chat" about the needs and problems at work 24 hours a day. I ignore it as much as possible.

    All is only works if you have a support network, like family and friends. If you're disabled it's a no. If you are a single father and don't have time or enough money to get anywhere in life, it's a no. Only works if you're a single individual with very minimal responsibilities. I make just enough to not get any financial assistance and not enough to save a significant amount. Once I save anything I have a major expense like the death of my parents and siblings and wife.

    Pretending to be temporarily poor is very different than experiencing true poverty. Genuine poverty is terrifying, and overwhelmingly difficult to escape.
