    My grandparents had a table with a drop leaf, and when that folded up the joint was also almost invisible.
    Much easier to engage than sliding section.
    That was made in the 'old days' by a craftsman with a lifetime of handmade furniture experience.

    Omg if I had to screw the extensions and then store them somewhere when removed, it would drive me nuts. We’ve an old school one and it’s gorgeous. Fold out or away, has edging, no mechanisms to see here. And besides, when you have that many guests, nobody is worried about the table, of you have good company. 😂

    Nice innovation there, I like the thought you put into this. It kinda reminds me of the way I tend to over engineer simple stuff, not because it's necessary, but because it's fun to see how it works out.

    I have a a Biedermeier dining table that only has wooden shafts to insert into the table frame when extending. They can hide under the table top itself when not in use. That table top is perfectly flush and never has any gaps, while not using screws.
    I can draw it exactly as it is, I also have pictures. It is fucking magnificent. It’s also a couple hundred years old this year, not sure on the exact date, it’s from somewhere between 1821 and 1828.

      In fairness it’s built for his house, not for market, so doing it that way is probably better for him. That and it looks like the screw tightening is only so the table extensions don’t bend downwards

    We have a really old dining room table with extensions. The whole length of the table doubles with them in, and the way to extend is by pulling at it, cus the extensions sit right under the tabletop, one at each side, split in the middle of the table. When they're pulled out, the table is fairly sturdy (it's old, so...) And when you push them back in, they sit flush with the tabletop and the total thickness is maybe 1 inch. It's made from pretty heavy wood which is why it's so sturdy.

    How would Blacktail studio tackle this project? My mother-in-law wants a butterfly leaf table with drop leaves on it as well. The problem is that having both a butterfly leaf and drop leaves makes an issue of a very weak frame unless the top is floating because you have to cut the apron. Ideas?

    I think the idea was decent, something I would have done. That being said, I generally work on the principal of work with what I have, how cheap can i do it. For your quality of work, I don't think your solution matches your woodwork quality. Since it's your personal furniture, I think it's fine. But challenge yourself next time. I appreciate your videos and jealous of your skill.

    Clearly efficiency was not a factor in your design. Might I suggest spring loaded mounting hardware. Tipped with all north ends of magnets that are not visible, but close to the finished surface. Then, with a stronger magnet aimed to the north part of the hidden magnets over the table top, where the other magnets are hidden within, connected to the mounting hardware. The stronger magnet should repel the weaker magnet there by pushing the mounting hardware out which would allow you then to slide on, the table extension.

    what bolts are you using ? I don't know how to select the bolts... like how do you decide on the bolt size/type. I have the thread inserts but don't know how to select the right bolts.

    • @Saol.Alainn
      @Saol.Alainn ปีที่แล้ว

      Bolts have to match the diameter & threads of the inserts they screw into, and the heads need to fit the t-track
      You can find guides on how to determine what info to look at, if you need more detail. I'm sure you can really just Google 'how to pick the right bolt' etc. Good luck :)

    As a result you create unnatural geometric designs.
