Our theatre teacher just announced that we are doing newsies next year! I’m going to audition for Katherine but I’ll probably end up with ensemble which sounds fun too.
That’s super fun! I’m in Newsies right now and I’m an Ensemble member as well as Hannah. Ensemble is SUPER fun. What I’ve learned is that you are your own character, so make them shine. You’re all your own people, with your own stories. Since the strike was during 1889 if you’re a girl you can channel those challenges, a guy the same! Jsut get creative and have as much fun as you can. During the scene se where the main characters are talking, and you’re talking to others 8nt eh back to keep the scneee alive, doing gestures and making faces is a gesture way to characterize yourself. It’s super fun, and no matter who you get, I you’ll have a blast. Here’s to hoping you get Katherine Pulitz-Plumber! And, when you do Newsies, I Woolley definitely recommend doing your research. I researched Katherine, and learned that she was based off of one of Pulitzer’s real daughters, named Katherine Ethel Pulitzer (an interesting Easter egg, becuase one of the girls from the Bowery Brigade is named Ethel).Katherine was based off of Pulitzer’s daughter who was born in 1882. HERES where it gets rocky. If you do the math, 1889 (the year of the strike) minus 1882 (her birth year) you would get seven years old. Disney shipped this character with Jack Kelly (who was based off of Kid Blink, who was seventeen in 1889), so that soemthing. But to make it worse, Pulitzer’s daughter died at two years old from pneumonia. That’s a little taste of the history! Thank you for reading my comment if you did! I hope you have a basalt! And I hope you get Katherine! ❤🎉
@@mushroomsupremacy2081 thanks for the tips! At my theatre we get 2 roles, 1 for each cast. For example, this year was Willy Wonka so for cast 1 I got Mrs Gloop and for cast 2 I got an Oompa Loompa. Normally you get one speaking role and another ensemble but it depends on how good you are. So for next year I hope I only get 1 ensemble role because it’s seriously so fun (especially for newsies) but the audience doesn’t seem to really care about you. 😂 you’re going to do great in your show!
My only thing is a note that I have to give myself all the time, and it’s that I need to make bolder decisions. Every now and again she’d play it safe. But still, she’s literally incredible.
my friend was katherine in my middle school newsies, i was a little stage crew kid, and she was WONDERFUL. us stage crew people joked around about being my friends biggest fan, but it was true, shes a good actress and i loved her part and songs
@@addisonleemartin2741I’ve seen the Jr version and even that isn’t slowed down this much. Plus alot of other songs they did in this production are cut in the jr version.
I think because they have a live orchestra they can fiddle with the tempo, and maybe they aren't confident in her abilities to spit out the lyrics as the OG. Which is sad considering she seems perfectly capable, but live orchestras definitely allow more flexibility for the music in a show.
I think it's very easy to forget that King's productions are EDUCATIONAL theater. As talented as these kids are, they are still children in training, and so instilling good theatrical values always takes precedent over capturing exactly the aesthetic of the original. Better to be slower with great diction, projection, and intention, than fast and sloppy for the sake of capturing the original. Besides that, the director of these productions does have the license to make different artistic decisions than what was originally performed.
The fact she was 16 though- I could actually never sing this well
How do u know here age 🙃
@@-Mathias-R okay lol (I just was like 🤨 r u a stalker that why I said how do you know their age)

My fellow Les
I am doing this play right now while I am in middle school
Same it’s actually show week this week lol!
Good
She sounds great but why is it so slow this is like half the speed of the actual tempo of how it’s written in the score?
It’s prolly the junior the junior version is slowed

The girl was sinning in a musical and I just wondered what it was called.
