The King's Academy, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence with a Top-5 Nationally-Ranked Fine Arts Program, recently performed the high school premiere of "Newsies" on its main stage in the Page Family Center for Performing Arts. Starring senior Kyle Martin (Jack Kelly), senior Chris Pappas (Crutchie), senior Clay Hider (Davey), and sophomore Olivia Cornett (Katherine Plumber), this musical is said to be one of TKA Theatre Co.'s best.
TKA’s Conservatory of the Arts, a two-time American High School Theatre Festival award-winning fine arts program, is led by Mr. David Snyder (Artistic Director, Musical Theater, Department Chair), Mr. Nathan Adams (Vocal Arts), Mrs. Cathy Higgins (Dance- Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz), Mr. Douglas Gawriljuk (Dance- Ballet and Modern), Miss Sarah Fahey (Theatre Arts), Mr. Brad Majzner (Stagecraft), Mr. David Skinner (Instrumental Director), Mr. Wes Lowe (Assistant Band Director), Mr. Patrick Clifford (Strings), Mrs. Macey Norton (Video/Digital Arts), Mrs. Lauren Moxey (Visual Art), Mrs. Stephanie Grasso (Elementary Choir, Woodwinds), and Mrs. Robin Phillips (Piano).

She could go do this role on Broadway right now. She is fantastic!! Wow
I agree she is fantastic at the role, but the song on Broadway is a lot faster, so it's hard to tell whether she'd be able to conquer it then
I love the emotions she's giving while she sings this song. Her facial expressions are on point. The "oh you poor boys" put a smile on my face! The way she delivers the lines such as "let's pray it does" impresses me- you can tell that this actress knows what she's doing when it comes to Cathrine's role. Her excitement as she talks about herself being there when they make front page is evident, and she's so cute when she gives that little happy laugh. I hope this actress goes on to do more productions in her life. I'd love to see what she does next and where she goes from here. She could be really successful one day!
Not to mention the "He's the face of the strike, what a face" part where her face flips emotions in a split second was very impressive as well!

I’ve watched this video dozens of times because I just love what she brings to the character. She seems to be more confident and sassy then the original which I really enjoyed seeing. Keep up the good work

Olivia Cornett is the perfect and a beautiful choice of the role of Kathryn plumber she sang this song beautifully well and she’s also very talented and thank you tka for putting newsies together with mr Snyder’s awesome casting

This is amazing!! I'm auditioning for her in three days, any tips?? .... I'm kinda of nervous I can belt that last high note (F5) but sometimes it's shaky. Also any tips on her character?
Don't know how you did on your audition, but as for the belt, core support and building up your breath. You need to keep taking in more air than you need in the passages leading to that belt so that you are thoroughly oxygenated when the time comes to belt. Then, contract every muscle in your abdomen. Seriously. Like you're doing a crunch while holding a fifty pound weight. Crunch! Grrr! Suck in air like you're sucking it through a straw. Fill your body up with air fast but make sure it feels like you are filling from the stomach up. Then keep those muscles contracted but relax the throat, mouth, and face. Open wide. Let it rip. I know it sounds like a lot, but done enough times in practice and it becomes second nature. And the first time you nail it you'll probably find out that your voice has some headroom you didn't know was there.

Is it on a slower tempo than the original one? Just wondering, I loved it!!
So much slower! Completely loses the racing thoughts that the song is supposed to capture happening within Katherine. Don’t get me wrong, the actress here did a fantastic job, and should be super proud! A sophomore apparently - just wild! It’s certainly a lovely and different take on the character - but it made her job a lot easier than those that do it at the original tempo.
