    In this video, I go step by step on how to remove and install a new radiator if yours goes bad. This is not too common, but I oftentimes have to replace a radiator at-least once on an n54 engine if I own the car for a while. Radiator usually goes bad if your expansion tank cap fails and causes over-pressure in the cooling system.
    The video is kind of long because it was done in the garage, but if you have a lift it usually isn't too bad of a job. Takes me between an hour and 2 hours depending on how the car is working with me haha. Stock cars usually take longer because of all the annoying factory connections.

    Thank you so much for this excellent DIY! I did this repair myself years ago on my 2007 E92 but did not document it. I wanted to guide my son who needs to do the same on his E92. Your video is spot-on and I've asked him to watch this video before tackling the repair.

    Save yourself some time: You do NOT need to remove the intercooler. There is nothing that affixes the radiator at the bottom. It sits in the V-notches and has the two screws at the top. You can do this whole job from the top except for the ATF cooling block from the fan housing. I just took out the front screws on the splash guard and popped it out from on top of the bumper cover. You can also easily remove the foot of charge pipe on the driver side making it easy to reach the ATF cooler's connector. It's still tough to reach the screw on the connector from the reservoir (passenger side) but that's not worth removing the intercooler just for that. I agree with the method of angling the radiator to get it in/out, but I didn't find you have to angle it quite so much. I would recommend removing that reservoir-connector screw very last as you can reach it more easily once you start to pull the radiator up.
    Go ahead and buy a pack of O-rings for your engine ($25 for a whole set) and replace every O-ring you can reach! Also a great time to change any other hoses while you're in there.

      If you have an after market Intercooler pipe to the charge pipe gets in the way so you might aswell

      @@tunerworld I sure will pass that tip along. Angle it, angle it. LoL. Be patient. I replaced my AC compressor, AC Condenser, expansion valve blow out the lines. Thing is, I’ll be replacing my radiator in the coming weeks with the aluminum CSF-7046. It’s been on back order which is why I couldn’t do it today. Thanks for everything

    So I’ve been working on this for a week now and I think all it was was the O-rings in the connections of the small hoses and not the radiator now it’s holding pressure with the new O-rings in and I swear I didn’t need to replace the radiator but thanks for tips. My advice is to get a radiator pressure tester and figure out where the leak is exactly before you go out and buy a radiator the O-rings cost me $13 each from Bmw nobody else had them

    Great video compared to some other ones I watched I’ve been working on my car by myself for several days but I’m putting the inner cooler on the bottom but why is there any liquid in it there are remnants but why wasn’t it full of liquid when you took it off and I took mine off?

      Because the intercooler doesn’t hold liquid :) it is just an air to air cooler! The radiator is air to water which is why it holds liquid. Glad my video helped! :)

    Man you ain't kidding about those drain plugs. My new one I broke both plugs and had to use extra orings so it would not fall out. Once I turned on the car the coolant poured out like niagra falls. Probably going to swap them out next oil change.

    This is a solid vid man thanks. Ive worked on n54 but never done a radiator. I recently took my n54 to shop they replaced the radiator with an autozone one and it all leaked out next day and then took it back got another radiator and replaced and it still leaked out. So im going to check it out myself. But im starting to think its not the radiator after 2 replacements maybe its a hose. Idk im not sure going to check it out. If it is im going to go with fcp euro radiator.

      Anytime! And I know what your issue is bro. It’s the drain bolt. Is your car auto or manual? If it’s an Auto and you have a manual drain bolt in there, it will do exactly what you are describing!

    A great video very helpful , thank you for taking the time . Two comments . What mechanic wears a watch that can be easily scratched while working in tight spaces ? Do you ever clean any parts removed that will be reinstalled ,or clean surrounding areas that are covered with dirt and dust that cannot be accessed once the job is reassembled ?

      I wear it everyday, its durable! Been years and I don't really have scratches on it. I do clean up areas on customer cars usually - this was just a quick garage job on a personal car

    So I got it all back together snug poured coolant in and it’s dripping on both sides from the small lines but the T 25 screws are all the way in how is this happening?

      Same thing happened to me. I am going to post about it because it turned my 2 hour job into an 8 hour job. In short, I needed new o-rings on those two small connections because the holes in the new Behr radiator were slightly larger than on my old radiator which allowed coolant to bypass the old o-rings and drip like crazy.

    I’m sorry I have a question. So the coolant level as you did, that’s enough? Should the stick be going up all the way as this indicates it’s full and no need or how does this work sorry? I did radiator and the mechanic drain and added coolant and added as you did not all the way up as I used to have. Please let me know.

      There are two dots on the stick. The stick should float outside of the tank in between the two dots, not all the way up :)

    The passenger radiator mount on the top is giving me major problem any advice?

      Shift it around! The radiator that is until it fits in perfect. Make sure the bottom mounts are in correctly and everything is seated! It ain’t Easy I’ll tell you that lol

    Connecting the intercooler on both side is hard. You didn’t film that part cause you needed both hands
    I feel you. If you have any trick on that please share
    When I go back to Connect those I’m going to spray a little silicone spray on it and pull and wiggle hope I can get both side on
    Like I said if you no a better way please share

      Yes you definitely need both hands haha. You pretty much have to muscle wiggle them in! Go up and down and keep on rocking the joint until it goes in place. Once it gets in place, put the lock clip in!

    There's no need to take off all of those hoses unless you need to replace them which you should do if you haven't already.

      It was leaking from the seams! This leak was obvious but usually I use a coolant pressure tester to diagnose leaks :)

    I never understood why they secure the trans cooler to the fan and not the rad itself.
    The fan needs to come out so often to access maintenance items at the front of the engine bay that it should honestly be attached with rubber grommets in a similar fashion to the airbox...whenever I remove the fan and reinstall it I seem to have about a 50/50 shot of breaking something or pinching a line.

      @@tunerworld I'll bet there's probably a way to mount a universal fan straight to the rad...if not there's definitely rads with a built in trans cooler available on eBay...next time I do this job I think I'll go that way

      Ohh the intercooler? The intercooler is an air to air cooling system so it does not use any liquids :)

    Some worm rounded off the E8 on the intake cam sensor so I gotta strip all this just to remove and test that sensor, frustrating as it gets, dont round off nuts please kids its a real pita sometimes....

    I pressure tested it and it ends up that that is where the leaks are come to find out that the screws weren’t tight enough but now one of them is still leaking and I’ve tighten the screw

      Do you have the correct drain bolt in? If you don’t, it will cause a leak from that area. You have to make sure the Automatic drain bolt is in. Most radiators come with the manual one installed

      @@tunerworld The one I ordered online only have the manual plug so I bought one at O’Reillys which had the automatic one and I have that one installed I’m just not getting the hoses tight enough

      A few hours on the floor. I think it was like 3-4 hours while shooting the video. Usually takes about an hour and a half start to finish on a lift

    my condenser housing feels very loose and when i tried putting my radiator in i couldnt screw in the left side if anyone knows would be great help. I dont know if i broke anything or if its supposed to be like that but my condenser is all over the place mainly on the driver side it sticks far out and can move freely

      It probably isn’t lined up correctly! Make sure to have the rubber block clips in all the way and that everything is seated correctly.. it’s a major pain

      @@tunerworld are you referring to the ones on the bottom? if so ive been struggling to see where those go to secure the housing but i know what you mean its definitely not lined up its dropped down so far and feels as if the driver side isnt connected to anything, your videos been super helpful i got a little too excited after finally getting the lower radiator hose off and rushed it lol

      @@evansm3ow yep! It’s that weird square black plastic piece that clips into the body where the radiator sits on. All that stuff has to align perfect. You may have to lift it up and ensure it’s resting on the right spot

    Idk if anybody going to answer but quick question if you have leaks from radiator will the heater still work or not

      As long as you have coolant in there and pressure/flow, your heat will still work
