Though a symptom, the key lock solenoid was not the root cause for this key stuck in ignition problem. It was actually a sticky shift-release button on the gear shifter. It was not reliably engaging the switch that tells the key lock solenoid to disengage to let you finish turning the key to the off-position and pull it out of the ignition. Hopefully the following easy-fix video helps. th-cam.com/video/sETuCmaTLhY/w-d-xo.html
What is the name of the part that the wire/clip is connected to? If you just didn't want to just disconnect this and you wanted to actually fix the problem, what part/s need to be replaced?
It's called an ignition lock solenoid. The GM part number is 22891588. They're about $25. The original screw that holds it in is a left hand thread, not a standard right hand thread. Keep the screw when you remove it, you'll need to reuse it.
My wife's 2015 Camaro has 36k on the odometer and has a different ignition issue; the key will turn to allowing the engine to turn off but the ignition will stick in that position and will not turn any farther to the off position so the can can be removed. We were stuck in another state with the key stuck in the on position but engine turned off so I called the dealership and an advisor suggested I slam the brake pedal which worked allowing the key to access the off position then be removed. That tricked only worked twice then we got stuck again. Will this tip work for that issue? Also I've heard some people spray WD-40 on the shifter button helps but will spraying some DeOxit on the shifter button help the issue?
Wow, thats a crap shoot. Being sticky usually means the lock cylinder needs replacement. Not sure if its related. But is quick and easy to try this method. Good luck.
Added late... but when you remove this clip/wire you will be able to shut your car off in any gear and remove the key. This would be unfortunate if you are on a hill and leave it in neutral 😐. It does fix the problem though.
F@#&ing thing just got hit by a semi. Not sure if it a write off yet. Luckily it was at 60km/h vs the 110 speed limit. Like I said it sits more then anything... go figure
Sorry but you're barking up the wrong tree. The problem isn't in the steering column or in the shifter know. Instead, it's the small switch at the base of the shifter (as described in this video th-cam.com/video/59kfjhXDF0Q/w-d-xo.html) If you disconnect the solenoid in the steering column or complete the circuit in the wiring then you can pull ht key out - even while driving with the steering wheel locked - very dangerous. Instead, you'll need to swap out the switch (which requires some soldering) or clean the switch as described in the video above. I soldered in a new switch (Part #Touch Micro Switch D2HW-BL251H) that I bought on ebay for $8.59. I dd this yesterday and Voila! it fixed the problem! I can pull the key out - but only when the car is in 'park'. I hope this helps someone.
There’s a tiny button you have push to release the wire. I just did mine about 5 mins ago. Took 10 minutes tops. Hardest thing was getting the cover to release. I popped up the top and removed only the right side.
@@02mp9696 I'm sure it helped some people but his video never shows him undoing the connector to unplug it,,,,,he only mentions that that is what needs to be disconnected

There is a fuse you can pull that protects that circuit... nothing else on the circuit. Pulling the fuse will disable that solenoid.
Thanks
Hi quick question do you remember which fuse it was I'm having same problem and it's driving me nuts. Thanks
Update?
@@dailyarabvlogs7181 no update still having problems i think I'm gonna disconnect it from under the steering column
Thanks trying to get this Camaro back on the road great video!
Hey no problem, hope this fixes it. 👌

My husband just did what u said 🤞cross it will work. Thanks 😊
It might 🤔 naa, it will lol
Is there a recall issue on this it's happening to our car?
Im not sure, the key issue only started after 5 years or so of owning it, then got written off after this video lol
Thank you
What is the part number? Would like to replace the whole module and fix the problem correctly.
Unfortunately I never got around to it. 2 weeks later the car was written off. This was a quick fix and intended to fix it properly but.... lol

Sometimes just pushing the shifter button multiple times when it is in park will release the key too.
Can I leave the plug sensor off or will it trigger anything in my dashboard
Can't remember, its been a bit lol
I think disconnected. But just try it.
Is there a trick to removing the bolts...im trying a 7mm and cant get them out. I have a 2105 LT1 with this stupid key issue. Thanks.
Well about a few days after this video, it was hit by a semi lol. She gone. It could have been a 8mm.
I was looking for videos with this problem happening. This one I found is better thought it might help th-cam.com/video/-ASISyQIu6o/w-d-xo.html
@Christie Ruiz everyone was ok, thanks.
How do you remove the ignition switch?
At 1:02, i show the connector, just unplug it for quick fix to get key out. Or permanent fix lol
Is that wire not necessary? What is the full purpose of the wire?
It's to stop you from removing the key if the car isn't in park. Not necessary at all. Mines been fine for 6yrs without it
Exactly. No need for it at all. Unfortunately, the camaro got nailed by a semi a couple months after this video.

Sweet looking ride buddy.👍👍🍻
Thanks bud. It sits more then anything. Just fixing little things on her here and there. 🍺🍻

do any idiot lights come/stay on after you unplugged the harness?
No lights
Does it work for 2012 camaro
That im not sure about.
Will this work on my lt V6?
Yes. This is a v6
What tool did you use to get cover off
A screwdriver and a trim removal tool.
7 mm
7mm bolt extractor right?

Your video isn't really helpful at all,,,,,,how do you unplug the small black connector
Its helped some people on here, just have to watch the video lol. @1:02. 🍻
