The fact that Romero gave a zombie a pivitol role in the Day storyline, along with such character, was a great addition. Always enjoyed that aspect, then continuing that tradition in Land of the Dead was also pretty cool. I think Day of the Dead is the one out of the series I've watched the most through the years.
I first saw Night of the Living Dead (1968) on late night TV in 1976 at age 9. The rest of my family had gone to bed, and I was alone when watching. When the movie ended, the station said: "Don't go away, we have behind the scenes footage with the filmmakers." U turned off the TV, went to my bedroom and jumped into the top bunk (my brother had the lower bunk bed). For the next two weeks, I had nightmares about zombies.

While all 3 are awesome, Dawn is without a doubt the best. It's got tons of action, great practical effects, fantastic character development, emotional bits, humour, large scope and a message that doesn't beat you over the head. It's amazing how much George Romero was able to accomplish on a low budget, it almost feels like a major summer blockbuster, albeit through the eyes of a grindhouse filmmaker.
Night of the living dead. And Dawn of the dead. Are what all other Zombie films are measured. Two honorable mentions are Last man on earth. And Zombie.
Day was creepy as hell when i first watched it back in the 1980s the florida scenes were amazing and the final zombie assault as they walk to the elevator platform on a beautiful sunny day is just horrifying
But was the gator a zombie gator? Lol Because Romero's Dead unlike Snyders do eat animals. When we rented it in 85 that'd the first thing my friends and I wondered. Lol Was the gator a zombie gator or just good at blending in Like Rick and Michonne? Lol Of course nobody knew who that was in 85 lol
I was going to argue that they were cold blooded, so maybe not. However, in Night a zombie eats a bug. So, now I just assume that big gator probably just swatted at those zombies like they were flies. @@EddieBloecher
@smb879 Oh I didn't even consider the cold blooded angle. Smart thinkin! That could be. I don't believe bugs are cold blooded but I could always be mistaken too.
The actor who played Bub is amazing, the emotion he shows without being cheezy, made you empathise with him. He kind of played him like a child, showing sadness, confusion in not understanding death. He made that movie work so well as if it was played like Land of the Dead, that would have been awful. Wish Bub was the lead zombie in that movie, would have been amazing.
I love the 68 night and rewatch it often, and I understand the semi comedic tone was intentional, but I still think the remake is a better film. Not just the updated effects or Barbara's badassery (which is awesome!!!) it's just the panic and tension that steadily rises throughout the movie until the horde busts in and it's all over. Such a great movie.
When the guy was chasing after her, at 51:46 to the end, it made me laugh to death. Because who knows what he must’ve been thinking before he died and now as a zombie? You could write any funny dialogue for what he could be saying to her, as she is seen driving off in the background; seeing him chase after her in the rear window of the car! Seriously, write anything funny or not, and insert it into the scene of his zombie running after her instantly becomes funny!! Trust me do it for yourself, then play this scene and watch how a horror movie scene…becomes a Benny Hill comedy scene!!!
Because of the goof when the zombie moves his eyes and Ben says to not look at it, when I was a kid I had this idea that if you looked a dead ghoul in the eye it would bring them back again
It’s almost a shot for shot remake of the original. Besides Barbs character being changed I’d argue it shouldn’t even be compared to original because it’s the exact same film. Now I’ve heard that Tom Savini had a completely different idea for the film and that he only considers 30% of the film his because the studio pretty much took it over.
Correction. Dawn of the Dead was titled as such because John Russo, Romero's collaborator on Night, had rights to Living Dead so that's why Romero called it Dawn of the Dead NOT because he thought it sounded more ominous. Ugh That's common knowledge.
At least in the realm of horror, Ramiro's Living Dead trilogy is on equal standing as the Evil Dead trilogy. I also think it stands shoulder to shoulder with other great trilogies from other genres.
I watched Dawn first when about 12 (1984) ... Then Day on release on VHS in 1986 (to young for cinama), so was little disappointed with NOLD (1968) when I did see it, dont know if it was the age of the film, but loved NOLD (1990). If I was forced to rate them then Dawn > Day > Night '90 > Night '68 (> Land > Diary > Survival)
Obviously, they’re all classics, but Dawn and Night90 have to be my all time favorites. Day is pretty good, Land was where I started saying “ehhhh” but Romero is a friggin legendary figure, night and the crazies and creep show, I mean a movie about anything could come out tomorrow with Romeros name on it and I’d HAVE to go see it. Same with Savini or Greg Nicotero. Just all time players dude! All time, ahead of their time. 🇺🇸 RIP to the fallen🇺🇸
I Have Night of The Living Dead (O.G. and Remake), Dawn of The Dead (O.G. And Remake) And Day of The Dead (The Original And The Awful Remake) On DVD The Dead Trilogy Never Ceases To Amaze Me If Romero Was Still Alive Today We Would've Gotten More Dead Movies From Him R.I.P.
I'm still hoping that "The Living Dead (Novel)" that was started by GAR and finished with his wife blessing by Daniel Kraus (with rought outline provided by GAR) will someday get a Limited TV Series (to big for a film), it was a great book, I dont read much but could not put this down.
Dawn Of The Dead 2004 is how you do a remake. Other than zombie outbreak where survivors go to a mall everything else is new. And believe it or not you can like both. For me, I respect the original and nostalgia is deep considering I watched it a million times. BUT it doesn't stand up for a new audience unless they grade it on a steep curve. Survival of the dead is pure ass though.
Am one of those that like Night of living dead 90th re-make better then the orginale. But dawn of the dead is master pice. Day of the dead is good as well , and dawn of the dead 04 is one of best re-make ever made.
