It will indeed be a classic 20 years from now, along with the marketing for this. Finish the Fight at the end of the reveal trailer still gives me chills.
While multiplayer has been an essential part of Halo, I think its true core is the campaign, at least when it comes to Halo Combat Evolved, where multiplayer was sort of an add-on. I love the Halo 3 campaign especially because of the great art style by Marcus Lehto, and the ambience, soundscape and soundtrack done by Marty O'Donnell and Mike Salvatori. Listening to "Released" and "Another Walk" while plowing through dense foliage with refreshing sunlight scattering through the canopy in Sierra was truly awe-inspiring for me. The same can be said for many moments throughout the campaign, like when Master Chief and the UNSC travel to the Ark; the background music here is spectacular. Not to mention the majestic yet mysterious vocals in the background of the final warthog mission. In 20 (make that 8.5) years, not only will both the campaign and multiplayer be considered classics, but O'Donnell's truly awesome soundtrack will be as well.
I'm sure that was because there were XBL issues, I was trying to play that day with some friends, they could barely sign in and we couldn't start a party or anything. It's fixed again now, it's back up well above a couple thousand now. :)
I miss those days on xbox when halo 3 was like the only good game, so that's what all of your friends played, and you could invite them all into custom games where you'd all have a ton of fun. No one cared about rank either in halo 3, it was more about skill.
I haven't played this game since 2009 or 2010 btw I bought it in 2008 . First game I've ever bought in my life . I was 7 years old when I bought it. I'm 15 now and this is the most memorable game ever . Brings me back to the way things used to be. The way the room used to look when I played this game. The joy of being young and playing this game to its very end. , every achievement, every reward possible was earned . I play destiny now but I look back on the Friends I used have when I played this . The TH-cam videos I watched during this time. Red vs . Blue videos . Beating this game on every mode. The JOY of getting recon in return . I remember recon was the holy grail of everything in Halo 3. I have nothing bad to say about this game . Pure memorable masterpiece
its such a warm feeling isnt it remembering playing this game years ago when we were kids when there wasnt a worry in the world and it was just looking forward to playing this game fot hours on end ! i miss the old xbox 360 live days iy felt so connected now the player base is so seperated on next gen consoles with wayy to many releases
Fun little fact: Halo 3 was so short because Halo 2 and 3 were actually once supposed to be the same game single player wise. Can't remember what happened along the way, but I do know it had something to do with Microsoft rushing Bungie for Halo 2's launch, so Bungie had to improvise.
I watched these vids all the time10 years ago, and I have to say you’re one of the greatest video game reviewers of all time. This is exactly what I want to hear about halo 3
I use Forge on nearly a daily basis, even more so now that I have Sandbox. I've made everything from floating bases on Standoff to giant floating yellow energy bridges on Avalanche to an underground complex with working doors on Foundry to a base with a working switch-activated draw bridge. There were so many possibilities with Forge before Sandbox, now that it's out, the possibilities are nearly endless. Forge is basically a map editor that can change everything except the terrain itself.
Pro comes a 60GB hard drive, Arcade comes a memory card. I highly recommend spending the extra money on the pro so you can download games and content and rip games to the hard drive for faster loading.
I love the overall world of the Halo universe. I love the alien invasion story, enemy designs, weapons, and everything. It's incredibly fun. The graphics are gorgeous too, even for something that came out during 2006. I'm having so much fun playing the campaign alone, I can only imagine how much fun the online is. Halo3 is my first introduction to this awesome franchise. I cannot wait to give Halo Reach and 4 a try. I love games about the human race trying to fight off a deadly alien force.
You have to experience the campaign with family / friends. It was the best campaign in the series IMO and I loved them all. The "Cortana" mission sucked though. Even in spite of that, I played it countless times over and over again with various people over the years doing the achievements, skulls and then vidmasters. The replay value alone says it all.
Agreed what makes Halo excellent is they keep changing and evolving there storytelling and multiplayer techniques. None of the games feel exactly the same. I mean yes there are similarities because its still they same series. But Halo CE was a lot about Mystery and Wonder, Halo 2 told a very cinematic story, Halo 3 was a lot about a desperate fight to save mankind, ODST was a detective story, Reach was a darker story about loss and sacrifice, and Halo 4 was an emotional story.
this game was ground breaking coming to this after having a ps2 i was absolutely blown away gob smacked of how amazing it was that i could play people online! it had such a warm fuzzy feelinh to it
Silver allows you to talk to friends and download demos once they become available for silver members. Gold has all the features of silver, but it also lets you play online and get demos as soon as they come out. So basically the only real difference is online play since waiting a few days/weeks is fairly trivial.
Halo3 is the most fun of all the Halo's but Halo1 has a pureness that may never again be emulated - it's mystery and epicness is something i will never forget. That said this is my most played game for 360 and maybe in my entire history of playing games. The refinement to combat are sensible and added equipment and skulls not to mention scoring, have expanded the sandbox past what even the mighty first 2 games achieved.Bigger battles next time though please Bungie
Glad to see someone agrees. I had a lot of fun with halo 4. Just because 343 took up the mantle, even though it's the SAME people that worked on the others with bungie, people are butthurt by any changes that were made instead of just focusing on what was excellently done. And there's absolutely no way it can be compared to duke nukem forever. Cmon guys.
My favourite game of all time. Most fun in a multiplayer game ive ever had. You could play a few games of social slayer then trawl your recently seen list to find custom games. Many a happy game of fat kid or protect obama
I'm currently playing Halo 3. I got one of my friends to lend me his Xbox360 and all I have to say is that I've "underestimated" the game. I've always looked at Halo as something very "bland" and never really found the universe all that entertaining until now. I'm currently almost beating the campaign for the first time and I'm just astonished at how much fun I was having. The gameplay had an oldschool feel to it, but still stood up to todays standards. The overall game is unbelievably fun!
I think definitely the Halo games will be classics 20 years from now. I mean I don't see why they couldn't...Also, I agree with him about Timesplitters. That game was the freaking bomb!
I'm not a fan of the halo series, mainly I agree with his point about the shield recovery in multiplayer, timesplitters and Team Fortress 2 really caught me more than halo. But whatever your into works, for him it connects him to his friends which beats any gameplay when you're just havin' fun.
@SkyrimOrBust I like em both as well. PS3 for movies and kick ass originals and Xbox for being innovative and making me want to play over and over again.
i agree i think they should have added map editor and theater mode at least that would have been nice and in game music at least killzone 2 has in game music and it helps alot for me anyways
i agree in all except the part where you say the campaign is weak or something. personally i find it to be the best of all the others i played (combat evolved and reach). the locations, characters, the talking covenant and even the story and the way it gets to the epic ending.
What I want is for Halo 3,Halo ODST & Halo Reach to come to PC since the 360 gives out on you & kicks the bucket in a few months to a year's time after buying it...Who's with me on this 1???...
I have a PS3 and I love it. But I'd get a 360 for this game and for Reach. Heck, I'd probably even buy ODST for the firefight. Gears of War looks fun as well. It's great that you 360 guys have this game. I'd love to play it sometime :)
Halo 3 multiplayer map maker (no online needed) is awesome and even better, you get that in disc form in Halo ODST witch is the best halo, not including halo reach witch is the god of halo, god I love halo, it so fun
true, theater is nice I guess... but how often do you actually play forge? My friends some havnt ever used it and a few might have used it once or twice ever
I enjoyed the campaign, but I'd have to admit that it did feel too familiar: Fight the Covenant, then the Flood and escape before you're doomed. I guess the formula keeps things simple, but instead of racing to the ship. I wish wish that you had this epic battle with the Gravemind: You ( M.C.) and the Arbiter use...
This one video showed who would win in a fight - Doom guy vs Master Chief. I'll put a link down for you see it. But personally I would think Master chief would win. Sure he doesn't have all the weapons as does Doom guy, but he is just a super soldier. He defines super soldier, and he doesn't have to kill HELL, to prove it.
This is the great Halo everybody loves?! Thank god, i bought a ps3 two years ago and not a xbox360... now i can enjoy REALLY great games like little big planet 2, god of war III, resistance 2, inFamous 2, uncharted 3 and killzone 3...
no just to get the free months you do. whenever you create a new silver xbox live account it will offer you a free month of gold and you can do that up to 3 times. then if you want to keep the same account you just need to use a credit card or buy an xbox live card and redeem it when your logged into that account
1. Feel 2. Graphics 3. Voice acting 4. customization 5. storyline. Best in those departments same order; 1. Spyro 1 (the dragon) 2. Modern Warfare 3 3. Bioshock 4. Sims 3 5. Mass Effect 2 or Grand Theft Auto 4, hard to choose. This game (Halo 3), if I can remark, It's not exceptional, it is average.
i dont know why so many people dont like the Halo 3 campaign, i love it more than any other campaign in any game, ive played it thrugh like ten times, not to mention the levelsi play at random
Sheild regeneration is awesome, Id hate to have to run round looking for a healthpacks after every fight. It makes online fights a test of skill rather than just finding somebody who has less sheildsthan you and so getting a cheap kill.
@SkyrimOrBust same here dude. had a ps3 first, then bought a 360. still play ps3 more but there still GREAT consoles. and also, most 360 fans who say ps3 sucks, doesn't own or have even played a ps3. same goes for ps3 people.
i didn`t play the first 2 games because i had a ps2 and not an xbox. i now have an xbox 360 and wanted to play halo 3 to see what the fuss was about. it could have had flashbacks or something is all that i am saying, do not call me stupid because a lot of games are easy to follow even when you haven`t played the first e.g saints row 2, the godfather 2, call of juarez bound in blood.
@Red97Sox The Halo franchise will live on physically, but without bungie behind the wheel anymore, i'm skeptical about how well the series will hold up.
As a side note Halo 4 is welcome to prove me wrong about which is the best Halo. But then again its kind of a matter of opinion so everybody has their own favorite and all that. Halo 4 looks awesome can't wait r u guys at classic game room gonna do a review after Halo 4 comes out?
If you play halo 3 & 2 then should know. Bungie really screwed up on halo 3 campain but did a good job of online gaming. Halo has the best campain story line in the halo franchise
@CeptenObvious you are wrong x360-halo,gears of war, crackdown, viva piñata, fable, alan wake ps3-killzone 2, uncharted 2,metal gear solid 4, god of war 3, little big planet wii-super mario galaxy, metroid, zelda, super smash bros brawl, donkey kong pc-WoW, crysis(most epic game EVAR!!), starcraft II, stalker CS , SoC, CoP ,
Which is what keeps the series fresh and COD is the same thing over and over they made a whole lot of WW2 games they all largely felt the same except for maybe World At War was a good game. Nowadays they tell stories in Modern/Near Future stories about a dangerous man with an organization behind him Imran Zakhaev, Vladimir Makarov, Nikita Dragovich, and Raul Menendez rinse and repeat. The last good COD was BOps 1 and MW3 and B Ops 2 are just stale yearly installments Halo is infinitely better.
I don't know how many times I went through campaighn, but I never knew you could run across a bridge to board the 1st scarab till I saw it on the video! d'oh
It will indeed be a classic 20 years from now, along with the marketing for this. Finish the Fight at the end of the reveal trailer still gives me chills.
just got it for pc

1:35 Yeah now there are like maybe a little less than 10,000 players on a good day... how times have changed.
Greatest game of all time
Sander Sevaldsen Couldn't agree more
Hands down
Greatest host of all time
The online population today was 172 ... :(
I miss this game
I'm sure that was because there were XBL issues, I was trying to play that day with some friends, they could barely sign in and we couldn't start a party or anything. It's fixed again now, it's back up well above a couple thousand now. :)

Man, some good memories come form this game. A true classic.
One of the most amazing video game ever made in gaming history.
I miss those days on xbox when halo 3 was like the only good game, so that's what all of your friends played, and you could invite them all into custom games where you'd all have a ton of fun.
No one cared about rank either in halo 3, it was more about skill.
well the ranks were skill based!
zachary159
No one really gave a shit about rank, only armor.
well me and my friend group were all about getting 50 in mlg
zachary159
RIP in peice
David Davidson you do realize that the ranking system WAS skill based? so Yeah the better you were at the game, the higher rank you would have been.

halo was one of the jewels of gaming in 2007. I remember playing this with my cousin when i was 5, So memorable
Man do I miss this channel.
I’m starting a channel and I’m going to mostly stream halo 3. Halo 3 is my all time favorite game!!!
Fun little fact: Halo 3 was so short because Halo 2 and 3 were actually once supposed to be the same game single player wise. Can't remember what happened along the way, but I do know it had something to do with Microsoft rushing Bungie for Halo 2's launch, so Bungie had to improvise.

Agree, Mark is the best
It's been 14 years since halo 3 came out and it's still great even for today's standards
RIP Halo 3 multiplayer
I use Forge on nearly a daily basis, even more so now that I have Sandbox. Your rebuttal is a personnel attack really shows how great this game is.
i loved halo ever since halo 1 came out i'm always going to love it. i love gears too.
Custom games, gave me so many great memories :,) still a good game
Same I have so many memories playing this game, and still play it actually everyday !!
Pro comes a 60GB hard drive, Arcade comes a memory card. I highly recommend spending the extra money on the pro so you can download games and content and rip games to the hard drive for faster loading.

This game is 8 years old now and i still play the heck out of it constantly. Too bad no one else plays it though.
+David Lund The master chief collection...Everyone plays Halo 3
+Jayden *No last name* the original halo 3 is alot better
Heyyyy I still play it everyday !! Haha
You have to experience the campaign with family / friends. It was the best campaign in the series IMO and I loved them all. The "Cortana" mission sucked though. This was the intro on champions... I remember the days!
Mark sounded really chill in this review

It has its cult following now., 6 years after this Review, and 7 after its release
8 years since launch now
13 (:
halo 3 has amazing kickass adrenaline music to atmospheric epic music which was a big part for me even though its just something you listen to
this game was ground breaking coming to this after having a ps2 i was absolutely blown away gob smacked of how amazing it was that i could play people online! it had such a warm fuzzy feelinh to it
Nastalga is the word your looking for..
Already 3 years old. Time flyes!
Halo 3 was the game that got me into the Xbox 360, and other Xbox 360 titles.
Still one of the best!
@kjo573: yes, you can play together at the same time. they have split-screen for the campaign, custom/local matches, and even online multiplayer.
Silver allows you to talk to friends and download demos once they become available for silver members. It's so bizarre revisiting these old reviews. Mark's style has come along way in the past four years.
I'm currently playing Halo 3. I got one of my friends to lend me his Xbox360 and all I have to say is that I've "underestimated" the game. I've always looked at Halo as something very "bland" and never really found the universe all that entertaining until now. I love the intro music :D
the fact is that, despite Halo 1 being released 8 years ago, I still play it and I love it.
love playing this one both campaign and multi-player.
So true, it takes time to discover how amazing Halo3 is.
I'm not a fan of the halo series, mainly I agree with his point about the shield recovery in multiplayer, timesplitters and Team Fortress 2 really caught me more than halo. But whatever your into works, for him it connects him to his friends which beats any gameplay when you're just havin' fun.

In the dictionary under Great Games. HALO is there.
Somewhere

Halo 3 multiplayer map maker (no online needed) is awesome and even better, you get that in disc form in Halo ODST witch is the best halo, not including halo reach witch is the god of halo, god I love halo, it so fun
This is my reason to get an xbox one. Halo edition for xbox one hd. And forza games.
I like the fact that this guy is positive in all his reviews.
Halo 3 is one of my most favorite halos of all time
The good old days. I miss them.
I like the fact that the shields regenerate
true, theater is nice I guess...
but how often do you actually play forge? My friends some havnt ever used it and a few might have used it once or twice ever
Should i get this game or wait for halo reach ???
And are people going to play this game when halo reach comes out ???
I enjoyed the campaign, but I'd have to admit that it did feel too familiar: Fight the Covenant, then the Flood and escape before you're doomed. I guess the formula keeps things simple, but instead of racing to the ship. I wish wish that you had this epic battle with the Gravemind: You ( M.C.) and the Arbiter use...

I used to own this game D: Man I loved the online mode, it was fun to kick ass on Xbox Live :P
My favorite game ever!
halo 3 will be my favorite video game ever for the rest of my life.
nuff said
1:35 When Mark said that...man it felt like a punch in the stomach R.I.P HALO 3 :'(
This is the great Halo everybody loves?! Thank god, i bought a ps3 two years ago and not a xbox360... now i can enjoy REALLY great games like little big planet 2, god of war III, resistance 2, inFamous 2, uncharted 3 and killzone 3...
@Tim9564 I love Timesplitters 3!!!! I used to play it all the time on my gamecube!! Good times...
It's actually 4 player split screen. I think that this is the best offline multiplayer experience there is.
i like how he put more relaxed in the description compared to avgn lol
no just to get the free months you do. whenever you create a new silver xbox live account it will offer you a free month of gold and you can do that up to 3 times. then if you want to keep the same account you just need to use a credit card or buy an xbox live card and redeem it when your logged into that account
I always enjoyed Halo more for the social experience it brought than the game itself
1. Feel 2. Graphics 3. Voice acting 4. customization 5. storyline. Best in those departments same order; 1. Spyro 1 (the dragon) 2. Modern Warfare 3 3. Bioshock 4. Sims 3 5. Mass Effect 2 or Grand Theft Auto 4, hard to choose. This game (Halo 3), if I can remark, It's not exceptional, it is average.
the spiker is amazing
i dont know why so many people dont like the Halo 3 campaign, i love it more than any other campaign in any game, ive played it thrugh like ten times, not to mention the levelsi play at random
let us all pray for Halo 4 to bring back some of the magic from Halo 3..ahh nostalgic times :)
Not a big Halo fan. But yeah this game is great for playing on Live. Great video!
um...he always sounds like that man and that is one of the reasons why he is great
RIP to the Halo XBOX 360 servers
Sheild regeneration is awesome, Id hate to have to run round looking for a healthpacks after every fight. It makes online fights a test of skill rather than just finding somebody who has less sheildsthan you and so getting a cheap kill.
Halo 3 for sure has the best online.
I will play halo 2 to see what its like soon.
the story is the most important, i didnt say that it wasnt. i was saying that i enjoy playing the multiplayer more than the campaign.
@SkyrimOrBust same here dude. had a ps3 first, then bought a 360. still play ps3 more but there still GREAT consoles. and also, most 360 fans who say ps3 sucks, doesn't own or have even played a ps3. same goes for ps3 people.
The single player on H3 is fun, matchmaking is amazing and forge and custom games are good. Good game ;)
i didn`t play the first 2 games because i had a ps2 and not an xbox. i now have an xbox 360 and wanted to play halo 3 to see what the fuss was about. it could have had flashbacks or something is all that i am saying, do not call me stupid because a lot of games are easy to follow even when you haven`t played the first e.g saints row 2, the godfather 2, call of juarez bound in blood.
@Red97Sox The Halo franchise will live on physically, but without bungie behind the wheel anymore, i'm skeptical about how well the series will hold up.

Yea, I really hat what time does to great communities like Halo 3 online, theres only like 600 in team slayer anymore
what is that awesome old school music at the beginning?
Theres nothing i miss more, than a full party playing custom games...
If you play halo 3 & 2 then should know. Bungie really screwed up on halo 3 campain but did a good job of online gaming. Halo has the best campain story line in the halo franchise
don't worry its not that much, $50 a year at the cheapest you can pay with credit card or buy xbox live subscription cards at local retail stores
Nem sei o que tô fazendo aqui
@CeptenObvious you are wrong
x360-halo,gears of war, crackdown, viva piñata, fable, alan wake
ps3-killzone 2, uncharted 2,metal gear solid 4, god of war 3, little big planet
wii-super mario galaxy, metroid, zelda, super smash bros brawl, donkey kong

Ever tried Little Big Planet?
FPS on 4 player split-screen can be great fun i have to say but it does take a lot away from the experience.
@EnglishTurtle I feel you. I have a PS3 and Xbox360 wouldn't be bad.
i like how the sheild comes back because you dont waste time looking for a health pack
