Worked smoothly for me. Leaving to the UK tomorrow and will switch everything over once I land. To everyone saying this is complicated...just follow the video step by step or read the multiple supporting documents. Not difficult.
I want to buy an eSIM for Caribbean Islands but we are cruising there so I need to turn off cellular on my primary line while on the cruise. Can I activate the eSIM after I get to island without having to turn my primary line back on at all?
It actually works. They just cant simplify it as this is just how international roamings work, it relies on local networks too. Important to note that when you turn on Celluar or Data, you select the Secondary [or however you call it in your Settings] and turn on Data Roaming.
Hello, I just want to be clear. How much of the installation and activation of an eSim can be done ahead of time while at home before I leave? I was hoping that most of it could be done before I leave home leaving me to just switch over to the eSim when I arrive at my destination when I would expect the validity period to start. However I am now questioning that since I have been unable to activate the eSim on my iPhone after trying several times.
Hi @paulperkins7875, thanks for your comment. Please note that most Airalo eSIM packages activate when the eSIM connects to an allowed network at the destination. This means that you must be located in the destination country to be able to connect to a network. Please don't try to activate your eSIM if you're still at home because you won't be able to connect to the local network. When your eSIM connects to the local network, its validity starts. If you require further assistance, please contact us via DM or our app or email us at support@airalo.com. Have a great day!
You are so right and customer service is so pathetic that it takes hours or sometimes days for them come on chat that’s supposed to be 24/7, don’t waste your money on it
Hi Philip! Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry for the inconvenience. We have a lot of guides and articles from our Help Center that may help. You may check it out at this link: www.airalo.com/help/. Please email us at support@airalo.com or chat on our website and provide your eSIM ICCID for further assistance. Currently, wait times are longer than usual, but we assure you we will respond. If you have already submitted a request, please follow up to expedite the process. We look forward to hearing from you.
Let me know if my understanding is correct - I install the eSIM prior to my travel (as I need WiFi for that) but I do not activate the eSIM until I am actually at my destination. Is that right? Does the activation of eSIM require WIFI connection?
No you do not need Wi-if. According to the instructions .. they say that once you reach your destination, you turn on your ESIM and you turn off your primary line. Then, you go into airplane mode and turn it on and off. The new ESIM should find the network that it’s supposed to . Nowhere does it say that you need a Wi-Fi connection to actually activate once you arrive at the destination. My sister uses this all the time in the USA and she said it’s dead simple. She buys data only. She has an iPhone and she does not have to do anything special for text to work in iMessage. She says her husband knows nothing about technology and he is able to do it so that is good news! She told me that all she does is shuts off her primary line and turns on her eSIM line in the cellular settings. That’s it. Turning airplane mode on and off might just be a way to reset the settings to use a new eSIM but I’m only guessing.
Watched a few Airalo setup videos and my iphone 14 pro never reacted in the way described. There was no setup steps but the green banner shows successfully installed. When I go to my cellular in settings, it does not show a "secondary" sim just my primary one. How do i activate when I cannot see it in settings? Thx
Hi! Thank you for reaching out to us. It sounds like there might be an issue with the eSIM activation. Please contact our support team via the in-app chat or the chat feature on our website so we can assist you with getting the eSIM properly set up on your iPhone 14 Pro. We’re here to help resolve this for you!
I successfully installed my eSIM but the pop up window that followed asking about cellular plan labels I accidentally clicked away and couldn’t find these options again. But you’re already doing more or less the same thing in the settings app as shown later in the tutorial anyways so is it a big deal? I also wonder if I should toggle data roaming on my primary line off?
Hi, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you're having trouble installing the eSIM. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we're committed to helping you. 🧡 Could you please contact our support team via chat or WhatsApp on our app or website? We’ll be glad to assist you!
Why does my actual provider stopped working after I installed the travel eSIM? Urgh so frustrating.. One day before departure and my phone does not work unless in WiFi

Alo, @teresatong3928! We're sorry to hear about your experience with the eSIM installation on your iPhone. While we do our best to monitor this account, we advise you to reach out to us in chat from the app or from airalo.com for a faster response. This will allow us to examine your device settings and assist you with the next steps.
Question: I get this for the data, but what happens if you call or get called while using the eSIM? does your carrier charge you "roaming charges" What happens with texts from non-iphone users (send or receive)? How do you turn on or off the "phone portion" so you don't incur roaming charges?? And does your location get activated for emergency services?
Hi there! Thank you for your comment! Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are committed to assisting you. 🧡 If your eSIM is for data only, it will not allow you to make or receive calls and texts. To avoid roaming fees from your main carrier, we recommend disabling your primary line during your trip and using only your eSIM. If you still need to make or receive calls and texts while using your eSIM for data, please be aware of potential roaming charges. For iOS devices, you can disable your primary line by following these steps: - Go to Settings. - Select Mobile Data or Cellular Data. - Tap on your main plan. - Disable this line. After disabling your physical SIM, it will no longer receive network signals. To ensure your location services work properly, make sure your device’s location settings are turned on and that you have a reliable network connection, which you can have with our eSIMs. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please reach out to our support team via chat or WhatsApp on our app or website. We’re here to help and make everything as clear as possible for you!
I installed my Airalo eSim in my iPhone 15 for use in VietNam. I know it installed, but in the auto-install questions, I wasn't sure of the last one about whether the eSim should be the default for iMessages and Facetime. I used the backspace button at the bottom and it exited install. It's definitely showing as installed, but how to I get back to answer that question? In VietNam, it will give me data but will I be able to receive iMessages for texting? How about Facetime?
PS. I'm still in Canada ... not leaving for VN until next week and would like this sorted out before I arrive as iMessages and Facetime are the primary need for me.
Hello, the exact same thing has happened to me. Please can you let me know what happened in the end? As I will be arriving at my destination very soon and concerned I might have issues with imessage and facetime too.
@ hi Tracey. It eventually worked but was a bit frustrating experience. In Vietnam you get data but no voice with Airalo, which I knew. However when I first tried to use it I turned off the primary line, worried that it would roam and incur a huge bill over my holiday. If you do that, Airalo did not work for me. Those settings worked for my son travelling in Japan though. I had to leave the primary line on as you may get a fleeting screen glimpse on TH-cam, with roaming off. I could not find any TH-cam reviews clearly addressing this. I finally did a chat with my Cdn phone provide, Rogers, while in VN. They said I had incurred a day of roaming charges trying to set this up so they helped on their side by disabling roaming from their end and then I can call and reinstate it if I want when I return. It works fine now. Don’t waste time on an Airalo chat. I had my phone by my side several hours 2 different times and while they promised someone would be there soon, no one ever helped. Long story short, if you see Airalo as a 2nd sim on settings, it will work.
Please go to 1:25 of your video - I installed the esim - listed as successfully installed from airalo app. The installed esim shows up in the airalo app. However, the airalo e-sim does not show up in the "cellular"setting in the iphone. i just have the existing primary and business options -- as your video suggests. what do i need to do? (i would attach screen shots but that option does not seem available) i want to set up the esim up so once i arrive in north america i can activate ..please advise.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your comment! We’re here to help you. It’s possible that one of the "Business options" on your settings might refer to your eSIM. To check: - Enable each line you have available in "Cellular." - Go to Settings -> About -> Scroll down to see if the ICCID matches the ICCID of the eSIM shown in the app. If you can’t find the eSIM in your Cellular settings, it might not be installed yet. It could be listed under a generic label like "Business" or "Secondary." Please reach out to us via chat or WhatsApp in the Airalo app or website, or email us at support@airalo.com. We’re here to help you set it up. Your satisfaction is our top priority. 🧡
I have bought two eSims for the two different countires I am visiting in a couple of weeks time. I plan to turn my primary off and just use molile data. In this scenario can I use my eSim for texting? Also can I make voice calls via What's app, as well as What's app videos and texts?
Hi there! Thank you for your comment. We want you to know that your satisfaction is our priority, and we’re here to help. 🧡 If your eSIM is for data only, you can use it for data-based calling and messaging through apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Instagram. However, if your eSIM does not come with a phone number, you won’t be able to make traditional SMS or voice calls. You can still use your physical SIM card for voice and text services while using the eSIM for data and data-based calls and messaging. Just be cautious, as using your primary line abroad may incur roaming fees. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us via chat or WhatsApp on our app or website. We’re here to help!
This isn’t complicated. I did this last year for the first time and it worked perfectly. I just walked my MOTHER through how to do it on her phone and this is her very first phone that is eSIM capable. She tried previously on another trip and I didn’t realize how simple her phone was. If she gets it, I’m sure others can. Just watched this as a refresher…
@ yeah sorry 😢 I take it back. I had absolutely no issues the very first time I used it for Amsterdam & UK last summer. And then I was in the Heathrow airport in London pulling my hair out this September. I feel like they changed it and my phone is still the exact same iPhone. Thankfully since it wasn’t fully downloaded or whatever and clearly no data was used they refunded it when I got back home. But it was still annoying to find another app. It was Salle, I think that’s how you spell it, they were OK. They were hit and miss on some areas. But at least I had something and didn’t take a Masters in Rocket Science to figure out how to configure.
Hi! We are sorry to hear about your feedback, that was not the experience we wanted you to have. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to email us at support@airalo.com or chat with us in the Airalo app. We are always here to help!
I too asked for a refund because I had wasted so much time dealing with the worst customer support ever and they wouldn’t do it until they figured out the root cause which they couldn’t figure out. Talk about running around in circles
Once my eSIM is installed can I still use my normal sim for data until I have turned on the line to activate the data (and turned off the line on my normal sim) or as soon as I’ve installed it will my normal sim stop working? Trying to work out when to install it as I will need data the day of travel.
Hi Alice! Thank you for your question! Once your eSIM is installed, you can manage which line to use for data in your device settings. You can keep your normal SIM active for data until you’re ready to switch to the eSIM. Just make sure to turn on the eSIM line and data it for data when you’re ready. This way, you can ensure that your normal SIM continues to work until you're set up with the eSIM on the day of travel. If you have any other questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out via chat or WhatsApp in the Airalo app and website, or email us at support@airalo.com. Safe travels! 🧡
Hi Carly! Thank you for reaching out. If you don't need to use your primary line, it is advisable to turn it off and only use your eSIM. In case you need to use it, please make sure Allow Cellular/Mobile Data switching is turned off and that your eSIM is selected for Cellular/Mobile Data. We hope this helps!
You don't need to disable it. By default your iPhone takes WiFi when it's available. Only when the WiFi is spotty it'll use your data (in this case eSIM)
Hi @davemccorquodale5148, thanks for your comment! We'd like to help you with your question in a detailed manner. Please try contacting us via DM, our APP, or send us an email at support@airalo.com so we can further assist you. Have a great day ahead!
@@airalocom Could you please answer here in order that everyone can understand? I just want to confirm if I need to disable esim when using wifi in the hotel or at the airport. Thanks
@@LongNguyen-kz6dv Hi! You don’t need to disable your eSIM when using Wi-Fi at the hotel or airport. The eSIM will remain in standby mode, and you can switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data seamlessly. However, if your Wi-Fi connection is weak, your device might automatically switch to the eSIM mobile data to maintain better coverage. To avoid this, you can manually turn off mobile data in your phone’s settings while connected to Wi-Fi, ensuring no eSIM data is used in the background. Let us know if you need any further clarification!
These are complicated instructions, albeit I managed to successfully do it right with one trip. The next trip I did it wrong and incurred roaming charges. This is my third trip and I want to like the eSIM idea, but the instructions are really confusing.
I purchased eSims for France and the UK. The installation process was almost immediate, not at all like the video shows for an iPhone. However, the UK eSim does not show up on my cellular settings on my phone. I remember seeing something about iPhones only support 2 sims. Has anyone been able to install more than 2 sims on their iPhone?
Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. The good news is that iPhones actually support more than two eSIMs, so you should be able to install both your France and UK eSIMs without a problem! We really want to help you get everything up and running smoothly, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via chat in our app or on our website. You can even contact us through WhatsApp if that’s more convenient for you! We're here to make sure everything works perfectly for your trip.

That's right, @djfunknuckle3375! We suggest installing the eSIM a day or a few moments before your trip, as you'll need a stable internet connection to install it. Once you reach your destination, you can activate it for cellular data.
Hi Sukesh! Our app and website are not available in India at the moment. Apologies for the inconvenience caused! An alternative is to purchase eSIMs and install them when being outside of India.
Do I need to remove my normal SIMM card (physical card) when I activate the esimm - can I still receive messages that are sent to my normal SIMM card (physical) whilst I’m using your esimm .? Thanks
Hi @Gazzapa57, thanks for your comment. You must manually turn your primary SIM OFF to activate your eSIM. You can use your Primary SIM to receive calls or messages, but this might incur roaming charges from your provider. If you require further assistance with the settings, you can send us an email at support@airalo.com. You can also connect with us through chat using your Airalo app and/or our website. I got the global esim. Can I download it days before my trip and just turn it on the day I get there? If I download it now, am I going to use my data in my home country?
Hi @Geovanaejade Thanks for your comment. We recommend for you to install the eSIM a day before your travel as you need a stable internet connection to install the eSIM on your device successfully. Hi @ChainsawzTheInsane thank you for your comment. Most Airalo eSIM packages activate (you have access to data) when the eSIM installed on your device connects to an allowed network at the destination. This means that you must be located in your data package's country to be able to connect to a network. Therefore, if you're still at home, please don't try to activate your eSIM because you won't be able to connect to the local network. Hello @AHakim-bc1zy! Thanks for reaching out with your questions. You can use WhatsApp and other messaging apps to stay connected while using your eSIM. For WhatsApp, you'll keep the same phone number. Please keep in mind that most eSIMs don't come with a phone number, so you will need to have a WhatsApp account created and logged in before you travel. If you need any further assistance, please contact us via chat on the app or through airalo.com.
It doesn't work this way if you are in the USA and bought eSim for Europe. Your eSim can't be activated because providers are too far away. Airalo has to consider this case in the clip!
Hi there! We're so sorry to hear that you had trouble activating your eSIM. We know how frustrating that can be! The installation instructions are for devices running iOS 17, and you can install your eSIM in the USA, but activation happens in Europe. @@nan2yvr804hi, did you find out why eSIM did not work in Mexico? Heading there soon and debating whether to get eSIM with Airalo or just go with another company. TIA
Travelling to USA next week. Tried to install - I think successfully - BUT it automatically goes to activate and now says SIM cannot be activated - please contact Webbing. Still in the UK. Have I completely wasted the eSIM or will it still connect once I arrive in the USA? I think it's not clear in your guidance on the website that there's an installation process which can be done in the UK, but the activation process cannot be done until you arrive in your destination country.
Hi there! Most Airalo eSIM packages become activated, meaning you get access to data, when the eSIM installed on your device connects to an allowed network at the destination. So, you need to be physically present in the country of your data package to connect to a network and activate your eSIM. If you're still at home, please wait until you reach your destination to activate your eSIM, as you won't be able to connect to the local network from home. Once your eSIM connects to the local network, that's when the validity of the USA eSIM begins. To ensure your eSIM was successfully installed, go to Settings > Cellular and check the installed cellular plans. If you need any help checking these settings, please contact us via chat on the app or through airalo.com.
If installation proceeded as shown in the video it would be just about tolerable, just badly designed. For me it did not. This is by far the most messy installation I’ve ever seen on an iPhone. I followed each step as presented but do not see the screens shown in this video. The first few steps looked the same, but then nothing. I don’t know if the eSIM has actually installed, although they have my payment. That process was very slick and simple, of course. I will try to get through to customer service, but I’m ready to uninstall this app. The video does not even explain if the new eSIM adds a new number after arrival in the new destination or if it is/should be installed already so I can let people know. So sloppy.

You are making these instructions from the point of view of Europeans, that do not pay roaming fees for voice and messages. But someone from America does, so the useful are at best confusing if not useless. Put yourself in the shoes of the visitor, because if I would come from America these instructions are really bad: back and forth between the app and settings.
This is a terrible service. The esim does not work at all and the customer service is none existent. It seems to be fine if it works but otherwise it is an absolute scam and waste of money. Do not recommend at all.

Let me know if my understanding is correct - I install the eSIM prior to my travel (as I need WiFi for that) but I do not activate the eSIM until I am actually at my destination. Is that right? Does the activation of eSIM require WIFI connection?
Yes it does
No you do not need Wi-if.
Thx

Unbelievably complicated. Actual process /commands/screens on iphone different than in video.

If your eSIM is for data only, it will not allow you to make or receive calls and texts. To avoid roaming fees from your main carrier, we recommend disabling your primary line during your trip and using only your eSIM.
If you still need to make or receive calls and texts while using your eSIM for data, please be aware of potential roaming charges.
For iOS devices, you can disable your primary line by following these steps:
- Go to Settings.

FaceTime and MMS messages both work. If I book a hotel online and verify by visa steps in, I do get the bank text.
To check:
- Enable each line you have available in "Cellular."
- Go to Settings -> About -> Scroll down to see if the ICCID matches the ICCID of the eSIM shown in the app.
If you can’t find the eSIM in your Cellular settings, it might not be installed yet. It could be listed under a generic label like "Business" or "Secondary."

If your eSIM is for data only, you can use it for data-based calling and messaging through apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Instagram.
Very confusing. Two well educated people. Can’t get it to work
@ yeah sorry 😢 I take it back.
Shocking service could not get it working, asked for refund

Once I install the eSIM but want to disable when im in the hotel or at a location with wifi how would I do so? Thanks in advance!
You don't need to disable it. By default your iPhone takes WiFi when it's available. Only when the WiFi is spotty it'll use your data (in this case eSIM)

Hi @ChainsawzTheInsane thank you for your comment. Most Airalo eSIM packages activate (you have access to data) when the eSIM installed on your device connects to an allowed network at the destination. This means that you must be located in your data package's country to be able to connect to a network. @@nan2yvr804hi, did you find out why eSIM did not work in Mexico? Heading there soon and debating whether to get eSIM with Airalo or just go with another company. TIA
There is no "direct" at the top of the screen !!!!
So sloppy.
Hi, any updates pls?
Gave up after waiting 1.5h with the support. Never had anyone to help. Unacceptable

Agreed this sucks!
First of all this is hard and there is no phone service. That sucks. How about making a video about what the phone should look like while abroad. I still have no idea if this Is card is working or not. NOT GOOD at all
It’s not that hard. Do it on airport WiFi or before you leave. Then you can turn on roaming on the new eSIM once aboard. It shouldn’t work anyways while at home

So.. I have to create a label twice?😂
Hi! You only need to label your eSIM once. If not prompted to do it during the installation process, you can do it later on your device settings.
Who has put this video together? Completely chaos!!!
Way to confusing!!! Never again!!!

The iPhones with Esims in USA is the biggest scam. The plans on esims are more expensive than physical SIM cards.
Hello! Thanks for your comment. Please note that in Airalo, we have plans for the US starting at 4.5 USD. The prices change depending on the package size. You can check more information on the Airalo app or website. Regards!
HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Was not able to install the eSIM. Customer service was also unresponsive & useless. Money down the drain. I do not recommend Airalo at all. Save yourself sometime and money.

You all deserve to be put in jail
This didn’t work at all. And I’ve been pending to speak to a rep for 30 minutes and I need to be traveling! Do not use this company!
This is the worse app i ever seen dont connect guide don’t help me
This is a joke right?
This sounds like a fucking nightmare! I gave up at 2 min 30
What? It’s so easy. Done it for 49 countries. It’s life changing to save money on data while traveling
This is a terrible service. The esim does not work at all and the customer service is none existent. It seems to be fine if it works but otherwise it is an absolute scam and waste of money. Do not recommend at all.
Very complicated !!!very bad.
