@@picklesadventuresYour Mom will be rewarded in Heaven for understanding she didn’t need a new Chapel to worship God.
I don’t think you understand how a pyramid scheme works. Members in Utah pay hundreds of millions in tithing and a lot of it goes to supporting the Church outside the U.S. The Church gave over $1 Billion in Charity last year. Don’t get too invested in worrying about what God wants to do with his money, not yours

@@robsin2810 Look at the bright side, it’s very tiresome to live in and around Utah where we deal personally with folks like you see posting here, who seem to hate the Lord’s Church no matter all the good it does. @@picklesadventuresI really wanted to ignore your comment because your position is full of logical fallacies, ad hominem attacks and ignorant conjecture. Personal attacks don’t bother me, BUT I can’t have you misrepresent LDS beliefs. You don’t have to pay tithing to be saved. One does receive exaltation by following all of Gods commandments which is Biblical. Christs Atonement saves everyone in the LDS faith unlike other Christians who believe in unconditional grace where only the elect are saved. I think ppl like yourself resort to attacks because they can’t believe how perfectly the LDS Church appropriates tithing. One of the smallest in the World, yet the wealthiest, giving $billions away to charity. Then you have the other Church pastors that stuff their pockets, buy private jets with hundreds of millions. Look up the net worth of Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen etc . Don’t be so sour pickles, you can find happiness by letting go of the hate and bigotry. I’m praying for you….

As an LDS MD, I’m very grateful for the investment the church is making in education and blessing the lives of members locally and worldwide. The conspicuous absence of the church in this area (compared to other churches) has been a “hole” so to speak in our ministry to the world and am so happy the Lord has directed this move. Bravo!

@@mhb44guitars yes it's about time the church wealth be more invested in its actual mission. Hopefully we will see more of such investment in order to justify the tithing so many have sacrificed to pay.

Being a member in utah is hard. Nobody wants to talk about it or even acknowledge that the membership in utah is and has always been very different than elsewhere. Very judgmental and clickish. I'm finding I have to force myself to get to church. I guess it's a good thing. It puts me in a position where the only thing that keeps me here is Christ. Not President Nelson, not byu, not the 12 not even joseph Smith, though I have a testimony of all these and the part they play in the plan. Christ only.

Intermountain Health is a scourge on Utah medicine. Their greed and politics negatively affects the health of Utahns on a daily basis. They are not a friend to health providers, and their latest move to literally take the “care” out of healthcare is the most glaring literal illustration of their repulsive business model. They spent how many millions on ugly pointless rebranding that could have gone toward MUCH needed equipment and employment of specialists we’re short on in the state.
Intermountain Health is reprehensible, and the closer you get to them the worse they seem.

Happy Birthday President Russell M. Nelson and Congratulations for the decision on the new Medical School at BYU. In 2001, it was the Mormon school, the University of Utah that created an excellent web site to study Pathology. The program allowed many medical doctors, including me to gain the confidence needed to pass the USMLE. Pathology in these days in my opinion is being relegated to a seconds class subject when it should be an important key for the daily practiceen particularly in times of COVID.

It takes a scary amount of time and money to attend medical school. The goal and focus for BYU med school is great, but if it is not like other medical school programs such as U of U, I hope the school ensures their graduates are capable to find jobs after graduation. It will be devastating for those students if they spend their prime years with loaded student loans and end up not being able to find a decent job in the medical field because the focuses that they had at med school does not fit the normal job positions in the medical field. A couple of the graduates can end up working for church in the humanitarian department, but if the focus is not like other traditional medical schools, what other job options are available for them to pay off their student loans and be competitive in the medical field in the US. I really hope it will become successful as my daughter wants to go to medical school in the future.

It would be good if they would expand the Nursing program. It's way too limited in their enrollment - they turn away many highly qualified applicants, and I have to wonder if someone in the school leadership is so focused on creating a mega-exclusive program that they are severely limiting the good they could do. They would better fulfill their mission by churning out as many qualified nurses as possible.

This is wonderful news to expand the school at Provo.
I really wished that they would build another BYU campus somewhere else. I know there are campus at BYU Provo, BYU Hawaii, BYU Idaho, as well as satellite campus in Salt Lake, London, Jerusalem, and Washington DC, as well as CES Online. There is a lot of competition for the main schools, constructing another school acknowledges the growth of the church and provides additional seats where they were turned away.
While I would ask for another US based location, I will give a nod to the fact that the church has grown abroad so perhaps the next one should be non-us based. Brazil? Mexico? Australia? Philippines? Is there a way to make it so that the housing was affordable - school was affordable.
Thinking of it, almost building a new city just for the university - it would require acquiring planning of thousands of acres of land, and constructing in decades of phases and expansions.

It's time to update that old BYU sign as well. I'm sorry, but it looks pretty pathetic for such a large university.

My mom had a dream that many professionals will leave the USA and go to El Salvador. I will eventually return to the medical field since there will be a shortage.

I am glad lds is opening a medical school I hope they are more inclusive of students from the United States. Encouraging foreign students to come to the United States IS nOT a good thing.

The school's first priority should be building more classrooms and hiring faculty so more students can attend in the first place. Many qualified and faithful students with high ranking qualifications (Faithful, GPA, Tests) are rejected - this is very demoralizing. 67% acceptance rate is not high enough - this is the Lord's school and He doesn't want it so exclusive.
