- Teeth stimulate the jaw bone by chewing, keeping the jaw bone healthy and sturdy. If a tooth has been missing for a while, there hasn’t been anything in its place to stimulate the jaw bone. This can cause the bone in this area to atrophy, or break down, and can result in a weaker, unhealthy jaw. A bone graft makes it possible for bone to be built up again, restoring your oral health and appearance.

Thank you, this is a detailed explanation, unlike the doc’s office that explained only half of this information, very quickly, and got frustrated when I asked to repeat it.
I didn’t get these instructions after my bone graft surgery. I was only told to take Ibuprofen and Amoxicillin. There is absolutely no instruction. I am not healing as well.

Thank you so much for being thorough. Especially about brushing and the gauze pads. The instructions I got from my dentist were a little vague. "Wear gauze pads until bleeding stops." But you are more specific: "replace every 30-45 minutes, and the gauze will always be red. Check the surgical site for real bleeding status." Much appreciated!! I'll be watching this a couple times after my extraction this month

I think you can go back to regular diet after a couple of days. You don’t need an entire week just don’t chew at the site and avoid super crunchy and chewy stuff
Is this for a particular tooth? I had the front removed and an implant put in. Hardly any bleeding and no swelling.
8 weeks to start eating crunchy foods !??
I just got bone crafting after I had a premolar extracted. A big chunk of the material came off the top.
There is still more in the site…but is this a problem? They didn’t put any type of suture over it.
I’ve been treating it like it’s a normal extraction, but this one is WAY more painful than my normal extraction. Is that normal?
